Do You Take a Lunch Break?

Your Two Cents: Do You Take a Lunch Break?

I don't know anybody that takes a conventional lunch break, and I am wondering if they've become a thing of the past. They seem to be resurrected for co-workers birthdays or reserved for workouts, errands, and doctors appointments. Do you think it's wasteful to spend a lunch hour actually eating, or do you step away from your computer for a midday break?

99% of the time unless it's an urgent matter. I enjoy my break(s) and find they make me more productive.

i usually eat lunch while i work, but i always, ALWAYS go outside for a 30-60 minute walk during what would be my break. i go crazy if i sit in front of the computer for 8 hours straight, and it's nice to sneak a little exercise in.

i usually try to take a break everyday - not necessarily for lunch - but to go to the gym. it's hard becuase i've been working late a lot and it ruins my routine with going to the gym if i'm here so i make the time to go for 1/2 an hour during my 'lunch' break and then come back. i guess i'm supposed to have an hour but i rarely take the full hour. it's hard when you're in a real office situation sometimes.

I go on a one-hour lunch break everyday. It keeps me sane.

I am required to take an hour. I'm used to jobs where you're lucky to get 10 minutes, let alone a whole hour, so even though I've been here for four months now, it still seems odd - and excessive! Honestly, I'd rather take a half - or none at all - and be able to leave earlier.

I always take a lunch break and I will always take one no matter what. And my lunch break would never be interrupted for one hour. Around in the afternoon, I take another 20 minute break. And I take my breaks not on my desk and never will be on my desk. Having a lunch break while at your desk working is not a break at all. There's more to life than a job or a career. Why enjoy things that you're supposed to enjoy now when you're already old?

I try to take a break everyday. I feel so much better when I get to reset halfway through the day. Also makes settling down at the end of the day a lot easier.

I don't take a legitimate lunch break, but I also don't get paid for that hour either. I sit at my desk and work while I eat. It sucks but that's how it is.

I have always taken a lunch, but this is my first "office job", before it was retail, always 30 minutes. Here, i am *required* to take a full hour by the management- they tried to tell me it's the law! I would love to take just a half hour and leave earlier but it's not permitted. But it does leave me enough time to browse my Sugar pages! :)

i never watched lost and by the time it was a hit i felt like it was too late for me. but since ABC has every episode online right now, i've been spending my lunch break watching one episode a day starting at the beginning. i love it! each episode is usually around 43 min long so it fits in my hour lunch break perfectly!

I'll usually take a 30 minute lunch break, but I'll be on the phone talking to friends or trying to do phone errands. Otherwise, on the rare days I take one hour lunch breaks, it's to run errands or go to appointments.

There should be an option for those of us who take a lunch everyday! Everyone in my office takes lunch from 12-1 and the office is closed and the phones are set to voicemail. I've had a regular lunch break at all of my jobs.

I never used to take a lunch break, but now I always take one. Although we aren't technically required to, we had a meeting one time where we were strongly encouraged to take at least 30 minutes. So now I do, just so I don't get in trouble.

Truth be told, I don't even have time to EAT lunch 4-5 days/week. The only days I really have the time to shove food in my mouth is when I'm in lab on the weekends. I call it the graduate school scientist diet -- the one meal per day plan.

Everyone at my work gets one hour for lunch :DAt my old job, most people worked thru their lunches. I wasn't one of them, no matter how busy I was I always took some time for lunch. One of the many reasons I did not fit in there :)

At my job we MUST take at least 1h break for lunch (and up to 1h30). Anyway I think I would not be able to work efficiently the whole afternoon without a break ... but i could take less than the required hour.

Oh, and napping is frequently part of break.

I couldn't live without my lunch break, most of the time it's the only thing that gets me through the day.

Seriously? People don't take lunch breaks!!?? I couldn't make it through my day if I didn't have that hour to relax and unwind! Plus is required by law that we receive a lunch break.
