Absolutely NOT. I had an Amex about 10 years ago that did but when I used up my airline miles I cancelled it.

i have an amex that does charge a fee but i'm willing to pay it since it gives me security and leverage that i need. i've been paying for my wedding and medical stuff on it since i don't have cards w/ limits high enough and i don't usually have enough in my checking account to cover costs right then and there - so that's kind of the reason that i'm willing to pay.

I'm pretty sure we don't have an annual fee on our card, but even if there is, I'm pretty sure we get enough rebates from it that it's worth it. Since we never carry a balance, we have a cash-back rebate card that gives us a 1% cash back reward every month. It works out usually to be $20-30 a month, which is sort of nice.
