I'd much rather spend half or a quarter (or less, in some cases) as much on putting together something by hand that's totally unique. The piranha plant costume that I made (from the Mario series) and the Mario -in-a-kuribo-boot (ala Mario Bros 3) that my husband made got a lot of props and cost us... maybe $55 a person after all was said and done?

Always wanted a stormtrooper costume...oh well, if you have money to burn and plan to wear it year after year, knock yourself out.

I don't see the point. To me, when you start shelling out big bucks for a costume, you've lost the sense of fun and risk taking yourself or your fantasy too seriously.

The comic character costumes may be a good idea for people who regularly go to comic cons and things like that, but otherwise.. I wouldn't spend that much money for something I'll wear once in my life.
