Have Gas Prices Impacted Your Holiday Weekend Plans?

According to AAA, climbing gas prices have caused a dip in Memorial Day weekend driving traffic, and it's the first time since 2002 that people have reported driving less this weekend than they did the year before. More Americans are opting to travel closer to home than they normally would or simply stay home. Have gas prices caused you to rethink your holiday weekend plans?

Gas prices are over $4 where I live. I read an article on Moneylicious about why gas prices are so high and now at least I understand what's happening. Based on that article http://www.moneylicious.net/2008/05/31/investing-in-a-slippery-business/, I don't think they're going down any time soon.

Gas is $3.84 where I live. But I didn't go anywhere.

nah - i wasn't planning to go anywhere anyway - so it didn't make a difference to me on how high gas is now. ...although it's getting a bit out of hand.

skigurl,Great point on the cruise control. And driving 55 mph can save quite a bit of change as well. Hard to do, but effective. Besides, when I get the inevitable bird fingers from other drivers, if gives me the opportunity to blow them a kiss and wave! ;)

road tripping is one of my favorite activities, and i won't stop doing it, or visiting friends in other cities because of the price of gashowever - spending $$ on gas seems like such a waste! as the price goes up, i feel sick to my stomach to be paying so much when i could be putting the funds to better useto counter, i take the bus to work now, but i will still take weekend trips, regardless...just maybe not as many, and i'm more religious with my cruise control!

I agree with hex, out of principle I never travel on memorial day or labor day weekends. Too many people, too much traffic, and overpriced hotels etc. Not worth it.

Yeah I kept it super local. I would have driven to the fam, but no way with these gas prices!

Gas got to $4.19 for the cheap gas places around here. I wasn't really planning much for the long weekend, but I definitely did not plan to do anything in San Francisco (50 miles away) or anything because of gas.

4.05 in my area, and that is just too much for me. I am honestly looking for a car with better gas mileage when this lease is over. I only get about 17mpg and that's just not enough anymore. We bbq'd at our house so we didn't have to drive anywhere but I agree with you Renees3 the food adds up!

Gas in my area is $4.29. I mean really- that is insanity. Plus, driving a SUV makes it even more insane.

In Switzerland it is very easy to travel with public transport - you can get ALMOST everywhere. So it is nice to travel by train and read a good book or listen to your iPod music or to talk to nice people... And you learn or you relax or you enjoy... In a car you have to take care permanently it is very tiring to drive for 3 or more hours to get to your destination especially in a country which is so vivid - i.e. shape of the country is so versatile...

I have never made plans to travel during Memorial Day Weekend because there are so many people on the road. I like to stay home and relax, instead.

I am the same way, I was not planning on going anywhere in the first place, but if I had been, gas prices totally would have been a factor.

I'm having a BBQ at my house so it's not a big deal. I'll tell you though, I've spent a bundle on food already!
