I'm Asking: How Do You Get Motivated After a Long Weekend?

One of the few long weekends of Summer has come and gone, and it's such a bummer to see it go. Offices tend to be quieter during these warm months as employees take vacations; it's hard not to get antsy when you're one of the workers left at your desk.

The first thing I do after a long weekend is make a list — it puts me on track and helps me focus for the day ahead. How do you get motivated after a long weekend or vacation?

Oh, I hope this post gets a lot of comments! I'm struggling with this now! Layoffs, haven't had a manager in 6 months, pay cuts, and furlough days...Mondays are rough going! :) I can't seem to get myself together!

I don't. Yep, it's impossible to get me motivated after time off. I work through my pre-vacation to-do list one task at a time, but it is definitely out of obligation rather than motivation. Oh well, at least I get it done, even if it's without enthusiasm or drive.

I manage to get motivated and "program" my mind by making To-Do lists, also. It helps me know where I'm going and it feels great to cross off items from the list. Workouts are also great, as one of the commentators said.

I'm the same -- I make a list of priorities for the next day. In fact, I do this every day. In the evenings, I make a list of priorities for the next day, and for me, it's a good way for closure for the current day. I've done this for years.

I go the opposite way, I write my list on the day before the vacation starts, and then I read it over when I get back, so I know where I left off. If I wrote any project notes on the day before the vacation, I read those over, too. It gets you back in the frame of mind you had last week!

I like to start my week out with a good workout. At the end of the weekend, I get my workout stuff ready and have it waiting for me in the morning. After a good workout, I feel a lot more ready to tackle the day ahead.
