I'm Asking: Do You Recall Your First Day of Work Outfit?

I'm Asking: Do You Recall Your First Day of Work Outfit?

Your first day at a new job can resemble your first day of school — the familiar nervous butterflies and thoughtful wardrobe choices included. With more than half of you admitting that you judge your co-workers by how they dress, taking care in making a first impression at work would only make sense. Do you recall what you selected for your first day on the job?

Puff-sleeved button down (blue w/ red and white dots) from Anthropologie, trouser jeans and black ballerina flats. It's a toy company and we wear whatever we want.

For my internship this summer, a black sleeveless wrap top atop a high waisted gray tweed pencil skirt, wide black waist belt, black flats, black Coach purse, and a silver heart locket my roommate gave me for my birthday.

I can barely remember what I wore two days ago let alone my first day on the J-O-B.

For my current job I remember ... I was wayyy overdressed. I had grey herringbone trousers on with black heels, a cream top and a black cardigan. Now I usually wear a pair of dark skinny jeans!

How funny! The other day I was watching a back-to-school commercial and I remembered how important that used to be to me. I tried to remember my first-day-back outfits, but I couldn't remember a one of'm! (I remember bleeps of clothes that I had. I always let my sister get the better clothes when we went shopping. She was into the designer labels and was into impressing her friends more than I was.. and since I love her so much I wanted everything for her. I liked to sew too much anyway. They didn't have the kind of dresses and outfits I wanted in the stores.)

How funny! Today was my first day at a new job. And I wore a black suit with a cute knitted red top that ties in the back into a bow. I was definitely overdressed, but wanted to make a good first impression on my first day (and week). So, I'll probably continue to be slightly overdressed for the rest of the week.

I don't remember it from my last few jobs, but I remember my first day outfit from my first job out of college. I was so nervous.

I totally remember. It was a mauve sweater, one of those turtlenecks that buttoned up one side of the neck, but I wore it open, and a pair of caramel colored wool pants, with black loafers. That was over 6 years ago! I also got made fun of by my coworkers for having a "glamour shots" photo on my ID since I tilted my head slightly to one side. Personally I thought my ID picture was awesome.

Jeans, oxford, fitted blazer and ankle boots. I was the most dressed-up person at my company and remain that way today.

Yes. My first day wasn't too long ago. My wardrobe from my previous job was always pretty casual so I took the safest and most serious clothes that I had just to be safe. I remember wearing a combination of black pants and a black shirt with a beige light jacket and black shoes. Everybody dresses pretty relaxed here, though.

Yep - black dress, gray sweater, black peep-toes. I purchased the dress specially for the occasion, because this place wears more black than any other office in the South that I'm aware of, and my wardrobe wasn't prepared.

I wore a black pencil skirt, a red silk button up and my favorite black pumps. :)

Yep. I specifically picked out an outfit that would be feminine but powerful. :)

it's funny - i work in advertising and i think that it's just habit to over dress a bit on your first day - and you can always tell when someone's new to the office cause they'll wear a suit when we're more of a jeans industry. oh well. for my first day of work at my current job, i think that i work a pair of black pants, and a short sleeve collar shirt under a black sleeveless vest, and cute shoes. that way i wasn't too dressy but i wasn't coming in too casual either. that's the worst - when you KNOW that you can dress down a bit more than you are, but you never want to make THAT first impression.

I wore a skirt and cardigan with pantyhose. I only wore the hose because I wasn't sure what the dress code was. Then I realized half the people were wearing jeans so I went in the bathroom and took my hose off. It was September and it was HOT.

I wore a lavender skirsuit, white top and taupe pumps (it was summer).

I do! Teal printed wrap top and dark trouser jeans with plats (it's a casual office), I wore the same outfit on my LAST day of work, I'm a sucker for symmetry.
