I'm Asking: How Long Have You Been With Your Bank?

I'm Asking: How Long Have You Been With Your Bank?

Severing ties with a bank can feel a lot like breaking up with a guy. The bank will probably ask for a reason ("It's not me! It's you!") and you have to let all the major institutions in your life know about it otherwise your automatic bill pay goes array. Not to mention the stress, mixed emotions, and fear that there's no one perfect bank out there. Luckily, there are ways to gracefully bow out of the relationship with your current bank should you decide you're fed up with its lack of attention to your needs, crappy website, or unexplainable fees and policies.

All that being said, most of us settle into a healthy banking relationship and get pretty comfortable. How many years have you been committed to your current bank and do you think you are in it for the long haul?

For the longest time I used to stash all my cash in my sock drawer. It wasn't until the end of High School that I finally decided to get a bank account. Silly me.

USAA ftw! I switched from bank to bank for a while because of ridiculous fees and USAA is the best bank ever! I stick with them forever!

I opened my checking and savings account in 1989 so what that almost 20 years. Some years both accounts are empty, some years full some years overdrawn...c'est la vie.

I've been with my bank for 11 years. I have had to open other accounts with other banks (for a while, my bank wasn't in the city I was living in for college), but I've kept an account with my bank. I've started looking into other banks, however.

I've been with my back since I was in high school. I had a local bank account for checking and savings, but when I moved to a different state for graduate school I moved everything over to my main bank. I've got everything with them- insurance, banking, investments, credit card. I couldn't be happier! I love USAA!

I've been w/ the same credit union for about 15 years. My mom co-signed my first car loan w/ me at this particular CU and I've maintained at least a savings account there the whole time. Now, I have two saving accounts, one checking account, one car loan, one 2nd mortgage and a debit card.

I've been with Associated Bank for 10 years now...I opened my account back when I started college because it was very convenient and had branches all over the state. All I've done with it was to change my last name on the account when I got married and change my address on my debit card when we moved.

I've been with WaMu for about 7 years I guess. I started with BoA when I moved to California but they were nickle and diming me on every little thing! I much prefer WaMu and hope they won't change much (as they keep assuring us) now that they are becoming Chase.

i've been with my back since i was really little. (ok, i was with another bank that was bought by BoA, but still it's the same bank to me)
