Keeping Desk Space Clean

I'm Asking: Do You Keep Your Workspace Clean?

Keeping a neat and orderly desk can help you keep your thinking clear, but clutter is inevitable. At any given moment I have a mug, water bottle, stacks of paper, Post-its, snacks, and random books piled high in my workspace. Do you keep yours clean, or fight the buildup?

yes, we work in cubicles at work and I keep mine spartan, all personal items must be gone when you leave, I work at a call center, very few people at work have their own cubicles that they can just use, they got to keep them because they were the first hired and were there for years so the upper bosses let them keep it because of their loyalty to the company, when they're not at work, their cubicles are fair game for anyone that needs them but while they're at work no one can touch their cubicles. I don't bring anything with me, just my wallet, my ear muffs for the headphones and my car keys. I hate junk and I'm a minimalist at heart.

At work I keep fairly tidy - in fact, I just wiped down my entire desk, keyboards, mice, etc. last Friday! It gets a little cluttered because I work for an online game company with a very casual office atmosphere, so I have a few figurines and whatnot around my workspace. However, I try my best to not let it get out of control. At HOME however, oh geeze. My desk space is a recreational area and tends to get cluttered very quickly. I'm not very good at maintaining it. I currently have a little corner desk with attached shelves and isn't exactly easy to access between my dresser and hope chest at the foot of my bed. I think in my next home I need a big, empty desk with shelves attached to the walls and out of reach so I won't leave crap in that corner of my room all the time, all in an office or game room separate from where I sleep!

I don't have a set desk. I can sit at one of four workstations, which are taken over at night by the night dispatchers. So I really don't have much of a choice but to clean up every night. :D Still, it surprises me how much I can mess up a workstation over the course of 10 hours!

I always keep my workspace clean and organized... I always put something back to its place after using it and I always find or make some place to put new stuff. I don't want a messy workspace...

It's clean but not always tidy...lots of piles of papers but I usually know where anything is that someone needs.

YES YES. Clean and organized. I have a black laminate desk and it gets dusty everyday so I use orange cleaner and wipe it down with paper towels daily. And once I read that desks are dirtier than toilets so I am OCD about it! And I am beyond organized, when I am working on something files are out, but everything gets put away at night etc.

I'm at about an 8 with the clean and tidy scale. I don't clean it often, but it's not gross, and I keep it tidy except for what I'm working on at any given moment.

I am high school teacher and keep my desk spotlessly clean. Luckily I have a classroom with ample storage and an organization system that keeps things in place. My desk at my previous job was just as clean. I can't have a messy workspace or I can't function. The plus side is my students can never say they put something on my desk and it was lost because they know that would never happen. :)

My desk gets pretty messy throughout the day, but I make sure to organize it every evening before I go home so I can start fresh the next day.

As a teacher, it was pretty difficult to keep my desk immaculate. My desk was stacked with books I needed for my different classes, and huge folders/binders full of homework/papers/exams...there is just so much paper. I didn't have room for much else than those things. I would have kept it a lot nicer if space and storage permitted, but you can't have everything.
