Lessons Learned From Money Saving Challenge

Savvy Savings Challenge: What Did You Learn?

We just completed a 40-day Savvy Savings Challenge in the SavvySugar Community with the goal to help one another make smarter choices and build our piggy banks. I started with the hope of giving up all unnecessary spending for all of Lent, and though I had a few slipups, was largely successful. To see how I fared, and how you can share your updates,

.

My goal at the start of the challenge was to restrict my clothes shopping and the pricey parking garage near work. Though I cheated four times by driving to work and had a relatively inexpensive shopping spree (hey, the sale was amazing and I needed an outfit for an event!), I estimate I saved about $300 in 40 days. No small potatoes! I couldn't feel more proud of myself because I cut spending I already knew was frivolous. It was a healthy — albeit long — lesson in priorities, controlling instant gratification and smart choices. I plan on rewarding myself with a $50 Spa Week treatment and keeping the rest of my savings where it belongs...in the bank.

How much did you save in the past 40 days and what did you learn from the challenge or your own efforts? Share your updates, takeaways and saving tips in the Savvy Savings Challenge group!
