Make your own inexpensive Save the Dates.

Save the Date Postcards on the Cheap

It's Wedding Season on the PopSugar Network and we're asking readers to share their tips for making the big day magical, but budget friendly. Reader Lauren shared this savvy tip in the How Do You Save? group.

Save the dates for weddings are important, your guests need to plan ahead but it is a fact of life that most will end up in the garbage. I know I have received some expensive Save the Dates like magnets and elaborate paper invitations. While my husband wanted to send an email, I still wanted to send something in the mail (email is just so informal in my opinion). To keep the cost down, we compromised and made our own postcards. We used a picture from our recent trip to Costa Rica where he had proposed and a vintagey Martha Stewart postcard template for the back. I found a local printing company: PS Print that could print the postcards inexpensively since we had created the design. For less than $40 with postage, we sent our save the dates!

Yours turned out great, Lauren! My hubs and I totally did save-the-date postcards too (designed and ordered our own on zazzle.com) and got them for about $50 total. I know most people don't save things life save-the-date magnets, so it really didn't make any sense to spend a lot of money on them. The money saved from that part of our budget was then allocated to more important things (food and bar!).
