New Spanish Bar Draws Customers With Insulting Gimmick

New Business Idea? Let the Customers Insult You

Opening a business amidst a recession is a risky move, but one Spanish bar is making a splash despite the bad economy with its unique promotional gimmick. The bartenders at Casa Pocho in the beach resort town of Cullera near Valencia invite customers to insult them, and those who deliver original banter are awarded free beer and tapas.

Co-owner Bernard Mariusz told The Associated Press, "Even people in their 70s come to insult me," and explained the idea is meant to help people get through the tough economic times. So, instead of taking out money frustrations on your loved one at home, Mariusz encourages patrons to take it out on him. Not everyone is comfortable off the bat, so he'll open them up by saying things like, 'Sir, where are you going with a face like that?'"

Yep, lilkimbo, I thought of the same thing. Used to be one here in Cleveland, but I think they are all gone now.

There's a hot dog place in Chicago that has a policy where the staff are really rude to the customers and the customers usually reciprocate and are rude right back to them. I don't know if I'd like that; I have a hard time being rude to people.

This reminds me of Dick's Last Resort, where the staff insults the customers and the customers are encouraged to insult the staff.
