Preference For Male Managers

Do You Prefer a Female or Male Boss?

There are very few women at the top. Only 12 of the Fortune 500 companies are run by women. Sadly, one of the reasons may be that there seems to be a general consensus among people, even women, that male bosses make better managers. The preference for male supervisors was clearly visible from the results of a poll which surveyed about 2,000 Bristish women, 63 percent of whom would rather have a male manager over a female. The reason? The respondents felt men were better decision makers. The surveyed women also felt that female bosses have a tendency toward mood swings and were more likely to "bring personal problems into work."

I'm wondering what your opinion is — do you have a preference for a female or male boss?

I prefer someone kind, but firm. Compassionate, yet gets the job done. I don't care about gender, I care about likeability and competence.

I always thought that I preferred male bosses because the female bosses I had, had were always sort of catty; that was only when I was working part-time jobs to get through school. In my career (scientific) I have had both male and female bosses and find that I am okay with either. It depends more on the person than the gender.

I want someone I admire and who communicates well, that's all. I've had both in the past.

Oops I accidentally voted female box. But hands down, I prefer working with male bosses. I've had 3 male bosses in the past and one female boss. I have to say my experience with the male bosses have been a lot more rewarding. I think men are more straight forward and direct will letting you know what they expect from you. I also feel like they're less hesitant to tell you what your weaknesses are and then offer constructive feedback on how you can improve your performance. Women tend to let emotions and "estrogen" get in the way. I also think men are more linear thinking so depending on the profession, they tend to be more efficient.
