Royal Mint Unveils New UK Coins

Who Has Cooler Coins? US vs. Royal Mint

The US Mint and the Royal Mint have both completed a couple of exciting projects recently — the purple five is now in circulation on this side of the pond, while there's a whole new set of artsy coins being generated for circulation this Summer on the other side of the Atlantic. The back of Britain's small change has been redesigned for the first time since 1968, and when aligned properly the six coins form the outline of the royal shield of arms.

The value of the coins notwithstanding, which would you prefer jingling in your purse?

This shouldn't even be asked. Look at how pretty the Royal Mint coins are. I wouldn't spend them. Our's are too plain and boring.

US money is all terribly ugly and uninspiring.

UK coins not only look better, but they feel better and jangle better in your pocket/purse.

I've always thought foreign money was way cooler looking than the US's.

As I look around, I am going to say the Royal Mint, sorry US. Our money is stuffy.

I agree with BuzzSugar. Other than that, I'm going to forward this article to my husband since he's the coin fanatic. I still got to get into it...

This is probably super-unpatriotic of me, but I've always thought that pretty much every country I've ever visited has cooler money than the US. Of course, some of that has gone away with the Euro, but I used to love collecting bills from England, Italy, Belgium, etc.

As a coin collector, I have to say that US coinage is lacking. The Royal Mint is far better. But the Canadian Royal Mint is far better than everyone even the British Royal Mint. They demand that their gold, silver and other precious metal coins are 99.9% pure rare metals while the US is cool with being only 75% or less pure now. Their minting process demands absolute perfection and they quality inspect by hand at every point in the minting process.
