Sell Your Jewelry Online

Savvy ATM: Sell Your Ex-Relationship Mementos

My best friend has a beautiful necklace that still has its diamond shine, but I haven't seen her wear it in ages. She keeps it tucked away because it was a gift from an ex-boyfriend and she's now engaged to her dream guy. His personality is laid back and he probably wouldn't think anything of her sporting a pretty necklace from an ex, but out of respect she chooses not to wear it.

How many of us have tokens of our past loves that go unworn? Instead of selling your jewelry-with-history on eBay or letting it collect dust in a drawer, why not sell it on a website dedicated to gems with a story? A site called ExBoyfriendJewelry.com launched in February, and it allows users to sell, auction, trade or simply give away their jewelry. The catch — you must tell your story behind each item. In this way, the two Los Angeles women who founded the site have created a service that could also function as type of healing community.

I think it's a brilliant idea on their part, and if you're ready to part with the items it's a great way to put some extra cash in your pocket, start your emergency fund, or make an extra deposit in your retirement account. Will you be listing your jewelry anytime soon?

I have my ex's graduation ring and honestly it means nothing to me, but i feel bad just throwing it away. But then again I don't want to contact him just to return it and he did give it to me for whatever reason. eh, he was a jerk maybe i will just chuck it.

I would use eBay for anything of significant value. Although, I sold an engagement ring on eBay a long time ago and it went for about one-third what it cost.

I have a TON to sell! I was just lamenting to a friend of mine yesterday that there was no where good to sell my jewelry. I'll be listing soon!

Quite a few diamond engagement rings and wedding sets there. This is why a ring doesn't seal the deal. Haha. Commitment is emotional, not materialistic.

I like the stories that people provide. Maybe one day I'll photograph the custom ring my ex gave me. The store he bought it from wouldn't take it back because there was a higher proportion of emeralds to diamonds, hello!

This is a pretty cool idea! I wonder how much people would pay for the used jewelry, even if the pieces have a story.

yea right, like any of my ex douchebags ever gave me anything worthwhile? ha! Luckily, my boyfriend is a jeweler so I've made up for some lost time with him. He's the best!

This has been on Today, and my local news station so the site is totally flooded. Good for the girls who started it, but I want to take a look still. I don't have anything to sell on there but it's always fun to look.

In my local mall, a jewelry store had a sale where you could take in one piece of jewelry, get another piece for 50% off. I took in something an ex had given me and got a cool ring I really love and wear all the time.

hahaha we totally crashed their servers! I think it's a great idea but I'm a packrat (emotional and otherwise) so I'm not really sure if I would use it... on the other hand, I really don't think I'd wear that stuff again so I guess it would be really good for to get rid of it.

While it's a fun idea, resale on jewelry is horrible - it's just a fact. You'd be better off taking your diamonds and getting them reset into something you like and will actually wear.

great idea. we must be flooding their servers though, because it's a fight to get that site to load right now.

I don't know... I kind of think whoever buys it is just asking for bad relationship ju-ju.

This is a great idea. My local radio show was actually talking about this earlier today on my way to work.

I think it's a neat idea. Too bad I don't have any to sell!
