Stories About Traveling Alone

I'm Asking: Have You Ever Traveled Alone?

One of my best gal pals recently proclaimed she was taking a last-minute trip to Morocco on her lonesome to de-stress. She's adventurous and independent so it was no shock to my ears, but I found myself wondering if I could pull off a solo trip halfway across the world. I've traveled for work alone in the past, but I've never taken an extended vacation by myself.

April's Self has a neat guide to picking the right solo destination, whether it be an escape to city life, the beach, adventure, or self reflection. While I adore traveling with my honey, family, and friends I now can't stop thinking about exploring Berlin with my camera and a few guidebooks. Have you ever jetted away on a "me-time" vacation? If so, where did you go and what was it like?

I want to take a trip by myself this summer. My best thinking is done when I'm alone and I think it could make for a very enjoyable/ stress free mini get away if you're not trying to please everyone in your party and just doing what makes YOU happy! Also, cheaper

Yes, and I loved it! I bought a round-the-world ticket when I was 19 and traveled around the world alone. Now I enjoy traveling with my boyfriend, but I think everyone need to do it on their own sometimes to really experience a culture and challenge your sense of identity.

I have, to New York city, and I didn't have a lot of fun. Maybe that was because I was alone, or maybe because I didn't like the city. I do like being able to go wherever I want without having to make compromises for someone else.

I did extend a business trip to Berlin and Paris to have a few days on my own, and explored the cities on my own. It was a wonderful experience and I would love the chance to take a trip on my own again. It is great to have someone there, but it's so relaxing and I love the opportunity to reflect on life when I'm on my own. I love reading that so many women embrace solo traveling!

Yes, in fact my first real experience with traveling was by myself. I'd never been out of the USA before at all, and last summer I flew to France and Sweden by myself. It was great for me to challenge myself and try it without leaning on others.

I've traveled quite a bit for work by myself and if it's to a city I've never been or liked, I try to arrange the weekend before or after for exploring on my own. Also, I've gone on vacations by myself including a cruise and a week at a spa. I meet some great people on both trips. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Yes, I took a plane to a beach several states away. I went after a really bad breakup and it was a great time for me to reflect, reconnect with myself and rebuild my confidence. It was one of the best weeks of my life.

@BellaSugar - that's pretty awesome! I traveled to Milwaukee for work a while back and decided to extend my trip by 3 days to spend sometime in Chicago. Although I went when it was terribly cold (February) as a California girl I think I handled myself. I got to see so much of the city and more importantly, it was what I wanted to see.

Sometimes when my husband's on the road, I'll take a day and go somewhere and explore. Usually it's somewhere that I can get to and back from in a day, though.

All the time. Montreal, Paris, London, Belize, Guatemala, etc. I think solo travel is a great way to get to know yourself and meet new people.

yep, to Ireland for 12 days and it was AMAZING! I loved it all. It scared the crap out of me when I landed but that's all the more reason to do it imo. It was some of the best 12 days of my life. :) I def plan to do it again.

I too traveled alone for work, but not pleasure. Thought about it while living alone, and it's gutsy and fun. But now that I'm getting married I'm not so sure this will be happening. That's ok though, I don't mind the company!
