Stories of Working as Someone's Assistant

I'm Asking: Have You Ever Been (or Are You) Someone's Assistant?

A few weeks ago a friend was mumbling about the monotony of her current job, then said she probably shouldn't complain — life could never be as rough as it was when she was someone's assistant. It's been years, but right out of college she took a job as a big league real estate agent's assistant and suffered. Greatly. He was a tyrant and she worked around the clock for little pay. Of course, her great performance and ability to put up with his attitude quickly led her to one great promotion after another and she will freely admit it. Assisting someone, or a team can be incredibly rewarding (in terms of career growth and financially) and open doors. Have you ever had a role assisting someone else, or have you always worked autonomously?

I am - when it doesn't go well it's a horrible job, but when it does go well I really enjoy it even though I know it won't lead me anywhere (I don't have the background to progress in the field I work in). It's a tricky position to get used to, both in terms of getting to know your boss and getting used to bossing around other coworkers, but now that's done I really enjoy the level of independence it gives me.

Well I am a receptionist now and as skigurl experienced it is like being an assistant to the employees of this office.

nope. but as a summer student in highschool I was a receptionist who basically had all the responsibilities of an admin/assistant to the general manager and other employees. then I went to school and got a job that, in time, will get me my own assistant.
