Tips For Changing Careers

Savvy Confessions: How Do I Make a Career Change?

This anonymous poster in our Savvy Confessions group wants to know how to make a career change. Chime in with your thoughts below.

So I've been a makeup artist for about 10 years, and while it's very rewarding (not to mention FUN), I can't help but feel like it's not my true passion. You know when something is your calling? Well, I feel like writing is mine, and I want to make a career change. The thing is, the two fields are so different and I wouldn't even know where to begin. I have been trying to get my foot in the door in the industry, but I'm lost. Where should I begin? Should I go back to school? Have you ever done something like this before and was it difficult? I'd love to hear your feedback.

Thanks!

I just graduated from law school and there's still many passions I have. I have a strong passion for entertainment and media (which I have very little experience in) but right now my priority is to find a job that meet my skills and qualifications. I would say don't give up a good job (we all have to pay bills right?) but if you have time, I would start networking or talking to people in the industry you're interested in or volunteer in that industry until you develop more connections and can get advice on how to switch careers. When the time is right or an opportunity arises, consider switching careers if that is your true passion! I blog and interview people in the entertainment industry on my spare time and I've found that very rewarding.
