i budget with ranges, and it's the only way that i'm able to do it successfully and not go crazy. costs for things can be fluid, and it helps take the stress out of it when i know there's a little bit of wiggle room for certain items. at the end of the pay period, i put everything that's leftover from those "ranges" into savings. it's worked out really well for me this year.
