Thanks to the US Virgin Islands, You Can Literally Get Paid to Take a Vacation in 2017

This is a historic year for the US Virgin Islands, as it will mark an impressive 100 years since the United States acquired the archipelago from Denmark. As part of its many ongoing celebrations, the US Virgin Islands is offering $300 in spending money to travelers who spend three consecutive nights in St. Croix, St. Thomas, or St. John anytime this year. That offer is nearly impossible to refuse for those of us who are currently freezing and will continue to freeze well into the year.

According to the official tourism site, travelers will receive the $300 upon arrival at any of the 27 participating hotels. They can then use the spending money on any historical or cultural activities, which can include museum visits or national park tours, for example. To access the promotion, simply book your trip before Oct. 1, 2017. If you book your flight during the special month of March, you'll receive a commemorative souvenir in honor of the historic Transfer Day on March 31.

While this is one incredible offer, travelers should know that mosquitoes in the US Virgin Islands have been infected with the Zika virus. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend that pregnant women and women trying to get pregnant should not make the trip.
