Savvy Wedding Tip: Take Your Wedding Budget and Add 10%

Savvy reader Lauren shared this helpful wedding budget tip in our How Do You Save? group.

My husband and I got married nearly a year ago. It was the perfect wedding and I wouldn't change a thing! My brother gave us the best advice when we announced our engagement "Whatever you think your budget is going to be, add 10 percent more." Initially I thought he was crazy and thought we would just have to stick to our budget but towards the end it became nearly impossible. Everything just starts to add up but luckily, we had added 10 percent to our budget for all of those incidentals that came up so last minute. Planning a wedding is stressful and just keep it in the back of your mind you might need a little more wiggle room in your budget especially towards the end. If you don't use the money that is great but if you need it, you have it!

How did you make your dream wedding happen on a budget? What did you DIY and what did you learn? Help future brides out by posting your tips and ideas in our How Do You Save? group. That's really helpful advice, and some that I think can be applied to most anything in life. I love that you said you wouldn't change a thing about your wedding — I wish more brides remembered that when planning. The effort will pay off, and you will love every moment of it.
