Who's a Better Co-Worker

Who's a Better Co-Worker: The Know-It-All or The Slacker?

Offices are little social experiments that constantly highlight the challenges of working with other people, whose company you do not choose. Of course we'd love for our co-workers to be people we'd want to befriend, but we all know this isn't always the case. And even if they're great personality wise, that hardly means that they're good people to work with.

If you had to choose: Would you rather work alongside a know-it-all — someone who's condescending, tries to make you look bad, and can't work as a team, or a slacker — someone who's unwilling to complete their share of the workload, makes you do more work than is fair, and takes credit for the end result of a team's efforts?

Slacker ALL THE WAY..I work with several "know it alls", and it's hell to get anything accomplished because they are always trying to correct others. They are at the same level as me and yet they feel the need to watch what I do wrong when they should be actually doing something instead of worrying about everyone else...

this one says which is better, usually its which is worse so i voted for the wrong one. but id say the slacker because.. i would rather use more of my own ideas and do things the way i want rather than having a "know-it-all" telling me what to do. also, it makes the person whos actually doing work look better:). if someones being pushy and not allowing you to do anything, then you end up looking like a slacker.

As much as some aspects of them would annoy me I'd rather work with someone I know I could rely on.

ugh, both those options are lousy... what's worse is that i work with some people who THINK they are know-it-alls, take a whole bunch of work, screw it up, and then i have to fix it all. the worst of both worlds!

Slacker- at least they stay out of the way.

honestly, the slacker. i agree with ninja, it allows me to better know my work subject, and not slack myself bc i know someone else will gladly take over.

I prefer the slacker, I'm a bit of a know it all myself - much rather do it all and get it done right than deal with someone who wont listen to me. You will always have to work with people you dont like, but the slacker impacts on my stress levels alot less than the fellow know it all!

Even if the slacker gets more credit for the work, I can talk more extensively about it because I know it better... i.e. at interviews for other jobs ;-)

SLACKER. Working alongside a slacker helps me relax and feel more confident in my own work, making a working environment that helps me do my best. Working alongside a know it all just makes me want to kick people. I don't get stuff done being surrounded by know it all's because I'm too busy being annoyed.

If I had to pick, I'd rather work with a slacker. Managers catch on to slackers ways more easily than the know it alls. The know it alls are motivated so they do a better job making themselves look good at the expense of anyone else.

Slacker. I have worked with plenty of know it alls to know that they are more annoying than they are helpful.

I rather work with a know it all who at least will get some work done. I've worked with a slacker who did absolutely nothing and those who had different responsibilities in the office were stuck doing her job at the end of the day.

I'd much rather have someone who I can count on and ask help from when it comes to my work.

As long as they really know, I love and appreciate the opportunity to work with someone who has knowledge I do not. The ultimate benefit is that it can help me get better at what I do.

I had worked with someone who's a "know-it-all"...she is all just yakkity-yak and when she does things that fail, she blames others that they didn't listen to her. She was such an annoying bitch who wants to get all the credit if everything works good but never takes responsibility if it fails because she believes that the job failed because we didn't listen to her.

at least ak know it all knows what he/she is doing.

I'd much rather work with a slacker and do the work myself so it gets done right, but I would make it clear to our boss who did all the work. It would be a lot less work than dealing with a know-it-all's issues. But sometimes, a know-it-all really does just, um, know-it-more, and I have no problem with people who know more than I do and want to share their knowledge.
