It is much more easier of a job and takes less education and training. Although, I would make more of a difference in people as a pediatrician, as a vet I don't have to treat and see a child dying of end stage lymphoma or other horrible diseases which can take more of an emotional toll. A dog, cat or reptile dying is sad, but easier to tolerate for me, as I do not equate a human life value with that of a cat or dog. Also, vets make more and don't have to worry about malpractice, and the patients are not complicated and decisions not as important. Imagine one mistake a fish dies or one mistake your little sweet caroline dies... do you rather have your vet make a mistake that results in your cat dying or your pediatrician which results in your 5 year old daughter death. No thank you, I'll be a vet any day!!!!! aimeeb 6 years Ped. I see what my sister goes through I I would be heart broken all the time. Lyv 6 years I like children but if I had to work with kids, I'd go for pedagogy. I'd much rather treat sick animals than sick children. :( cdent4 6 years LOVE kids. Actually thinking about going back to school to become a Peds nurse. skigurl 6 years pediatrician i don't like many animals and the ones i do love (doggies) i can't see them sick or hurt xxstardust 6 years I chose vet only because it's the lesser of two evils. I like animals, but am *quite* allergic ... but sick kids just make me sob. I can't handle seriously ill kids. dm8bri 6 years Veterinarian for sure. I have patience issues with children - when they're sick it's even worse. ilanac13 6 years i would rather work with kids than animals. at least you can get a sense of what's making a child hurt rather than with an animal when you sometimes have to guess what's wrong with them, and it's harder. bluebellknoll 6 years No doubt a VET. Smacks83 6 years Vet all the way, I love animals (i've worked at an animal clinic and nursed two dogs of my own that died from cancer). To all the people saying they'd prefer to be a vet because they don't have to deal with parents. You are so wrong! Animal parents can be really frustrating too because a lot of times they won't put a very sick and in-pain animal down because "they just can't" meanwhile you see how much this poor animal is suffering and clearly doesn't want to be in such misery. Also you get alot of people who tell you "I dont care what it costs, do whatever you need to do!" and when you let them know what the actual costs will be they looks at you like youre crazy (I've actually had several people tell the vet I worked for "Are you crazy? Thats so much money, and its only a a stupid dog/cat!". Insane people). starangel82 6 years Vet is the lesser of two evils. I can't stand sick kids or animals. Both tug at my heart strings too much. Being a vet would also mean you don't have to deal with stressed-out parents. SKC-Sparkle 6 years There wasn't a neither option, so I chose pediatrician. I couldn't be a vet because part of their job is putting sick/old animals down (and I sobbed during that scene in Marley and Me). But being a pediatrician would be equally hard b/se kids are so down when they're sick. a1stbornunicorn 6 years animal bites? no thanks! GlowingMoon 6 years Neither, as I would have become one or the other. mondaymoos 6 years Definitely vet. I'm so with bluebird on this one. simplyfab87 6 years Pediatrician. I don't like most animals especially dogs wildegurl 6 years when i was younger, being a vet was my dream job... and then i took biology and found i wasn't a "science chick" snarkypants 6 years kids are gross. vet, no doubt. Frenched 6 years I'm more of an animal person so I'd choose veterinarian. minxa25 6 years Pediatrician all the way.. brandi797 6 years I am a vet...trust me, there's nothing better! bluebird 6 years Vet. I cry when Animal Cops comes on TV, but have pretty much no pity for small, oozy, whiny children. Hence why I don't have any... teegaall 6 years Pediatrician. I'm not an animal/pet person. LaurenG22 6 years Vet- I couldn't deal with strep throat day in and day out. Spectra 6 years I actually almost did go to vet school, but I didn't get in. I didn't grow up on a farm or major in Animal Science, both of which would have helped me get in. I've worked in vet clinics to get experience and it would be such a fun job. Of course, most of the time it's pretty mundane work...giving shots and selling heartworm medication, but you get to see so many adorable animals! I'd much rather work around animals all day than dealing with sick kids and their stressed-out parents.
