i have a few close co-workers that i work with so i def don't think anything of it when i hug them!!! they are like my second family, i see them everyday!! :D so its obvious your going to develop kinda friendship or relationship with your co-workers :D

The very few I'm like family with, yes. The rest are pretty skeevy, so it's the "dodge-and-stick-your-hand-out-to-shake" for the very awkward Holiday party! :)

We usually only hug at like christmas time and i find it just awkward. I'm not really a big hug person unless it's family.

I am pretty close with most of my co-workers but we're not really huggers. I guess when one of us leaves or something we would hug, but just randomly? No.

i obviously have a totally different relationship with my co-workers/boss. we are all close, and hug/touch them all the time (like runningesq they are my friends) maybe its because its a law office too??

I just hugged a co-worker today because it was her last day and she's nice. And I've hugged my boss on a few occasions because she's like an older sister to me and she's great. But there are other co-workers I wouldn't touch with a ten-foot pole. It totally depends on the person and the situation.

Is it *ever* appropriate? Yes. Is it *always* appropriate? NO.

Just punch them on the shoulder and say, "Way to go!" If it's one of my very close friends at work then it might be ok.

Sure if you have know the person for awhile, it's their birthday, getting married, leaving the company or having a baby...nothing wrong with any of those scenarios

Sure. I would give congratulations hugs, thank you hugs (for presents), happy holiday hugs, etc. Of course, I would take those hugs, too.

We give each other a hug on our Christmas/New Year party before the Christmas shutdown. That's the only time we hug each other.

A woman I worked with lost her mom and when I saw her, I gave her a hug. I only did it because our whole lab is kind of a big family...we're all women and we work at a hospital and, well, we're huggers. At my old job, my boss (a man) gave me a hug once and it was extremely weird because he was my boss and he was kind of a creep. It depends on the situation and the people involved, I think.
