The rest are pretty skeevy, so it's the "dodge-and-stick-your-hand-out-to-shake" for the very awkward Holiday party! :) Liss1 6 years We usually only hug at like christmas time and i find it just awkward. I'm not really a big hug person unless it's family. dani17731 6 years I am pretty close with most of my co-workers but we're not really huggers. I guess when one of us leaves or something we would hug, but just randomly? No. Happsmjc 6 years i obviously have a totally different relationship with my co-workers/boss. we are all close, and hug/touch them all the time (like runningesq they are my friends) maybe its because its a law office too?? SDTransplant 6 years I just hugged a co-worker today because it was her last day and she's nice. And I've hugged my boss on a few occasions because she's like an older sister to me and she's great. But there are other co-workers I wouldn't touch with a ten-foot pole. It totally depends on the person and the situation. Chouette4u 6 years Is it *ever* appropriate? Yes. Is it *always* appropriate? NO. JessRose 6 years Just punch them on the shoulder and say, "Way to go!" If it's one of my very close friends at work then it might be ok. PJEdge 6 years Sure if you have know the person for awhile, it's their birthday, getting married, leaving the company or having a baby...nothing wrong with any of those scenarios runningesq 6 years but I also continue ... DUR! "but I also CONSIDER" runningesq 6 years I hug my co workers, but I also continue my co workers my friends :) GlowingMoon 6 years Sure. I would give congratulations hugs, thank you hugs (for presents), happy holiday hugs, etc. Of course, I would take those hugs, too. lydialee_home 6 years We give each other a hug on our Christmas/New Year party before the Christmas shutdown. That's the only time we hug each other. Spectra 6 years A woman I worked with lost her mom and when I saw her, I gave her a hug. I only did it because our whole lab is kind of a big family...we're all women and we work at a hospital and, well, we're huggers. At my old job, my boss (a man) gave me a hug once and it was extremely weird because he was my boss and he was kind of a creep. It depends on the situation and the people involved, I think.
