Whether it be an icy shadow or a dark navy liner, one thing is for sure - blue was cool at last night's VMAs. I love how Bar Refaeli, Stephanie Pratt, and Pink went for frosty versions to bring brightness to their eyes. Rihanna and Ashlee Simpson opted for a more smoky edge, while Christina Aguilera added her own unique (as usual) take on the trend. Do you think you'll be wearing any of these blue-hued looks?

Icons and Idols Party the Night Away at the Chateau

The night didn't end with Kanye's post-VMAs performance as the stars headed out to the after parties. The girls of The Hills posed together at the Paramount Studios bash before Audrina headed to InTouch Weekly's Icons and Idols party at Chateau Marmont. The Veronicas, Leona Lewis and Good Charlotte all hit the stage performing fun sets for the packed room. We were lucky enough to be there and have some great sightings like the girls of 90210, Dave Annable from Brothers and Sisters and even Ryan Phillippe who stayed covert in his favorite hat. Downstairs, Samantha Ronson spun while Lindsay Lohan topped off her very busy weekend - Fashion Week to Toronto to the VMAs - sitting on the booth right next to her girl chatting with friends and looking hot wearing a very revealing halter top.

The Veronica's kicked things off great but it was Leona Lewis who got the crowd excited. In fact, her performance was so hot that Kid Rock had to take off his shirt - we know he loves a woman that actually sings, ha. When Good Charlotte performed their hits, Mischa Barton was front and center in a very flower-child headband and Paris Hilton excitedly cheered Benji on from right next to the stage. Sadly, no Nicole Richie there to hear Joel make lots of jokes to the crowd since she and Harlow were in NYC.

Did you notice how much sparkle there was last night at the 2008 MTV VMAs? But shine didn't necessary equal standing out on the red carpet. Two sequined ladies that did wow you were Miley Cyrus in her flapper-inspired dress and Audrina Patridge in her sexy gold number. Lauren Conrad's revealing yet stylish white frock and Bar Refaeli's casual Hurley tank dress and Badgley Mischka statement jewels also appealed to you. You didn't love Nicky Hilton's Opening Ceremony LBD so much, but I always have to back up a girl who takes a risk. Between all of us, the candidates for best dressed at the VMAs has been narrowed down to Miley, Bar, Lauren, Audrina, and Nicky. Who wins your vote?

The Resurrection of Britney Spears and More VMA Winners

Britney Spears was greeted with cheers of excitement, which must have boosted her confidence before finally scoring her first VMA. The good luck kept coming as she took home three moonmen last night! Britney was "speechless" but then added, "Oh, my goodness, thank you! I first wanna thank God for blessing me like this. My family ... my two beautiful boys for inspiring me everyday." At the end of the show, Russell called it "the resurrection of Britney Spears" which we couldn't agree with more. You all thought she would win but she wasn't the only one who scored last night - click here for all the 2008 MTV VMA winners! Chris Brown, the Pussycat Dolls, and Tokio Hotel also took home trophies and don't forget, you too can be a winner like the VMA presenters by entering to win the fabulous goody bag they took home last night.

VMA Host Calls Bush a "Retarded Cowboy" - Over the Line?

British comedian Russell Brand hosted the MTV Video Music Awards last night and proved in the current climate, not even handing out trophies for music videos is immune from a healthy dose of politicization. Brand's assessment of President George Bush was more than pointed. He said:

Some people, I think they're called racists, say America is not ready for a black president. But I know America to be a forward thinking country because otherwise why would you have let that retard and cowboy fella be president for eight years? We were very impressed. We thought it was nice of you to let him have a go, because, in England, he wouldn't be trusted with a pair of scissors.

Shots of the audience, including Britney Spears and not-of-voting-age-yet Miley Cyrus, looked stricken by the riff. Brand went on to appeal “on behalf of the world," that people vote for Barack Obama.

Reviews of the performance have been mixed, with the LA Times saying, "The 2008 VMAs were poised to mark the return of Britney Spears. Instead, they will go down in history as the night when that English guy from Forgetting Sarah Marshall almost made the Jonas Brothers cry." One MTV fan said, "Russell WHO? I didn't realize this show was an Osama [sic] campaign rally. This British nobody looks like he was pulled from the ranks of the homeless - with his unshaved look, rats' nest hair-do and foul mouth." The New York Times was more appreciative of the "manic, intelligent English comedian." Were you?

Britney's Big Night & Russell Brand's Bad Antics

The long awaited Britney Spears opening included a pre-taped clip with Jonah Hill before her blink-and-you'll-miss-it intro which was greeted by a touching standing ovation and eventually three moonmen! Host Russell Brand didn't hold back when bashing President Bush, calling Palin a VILF and begging for Obama support. He also mocked the promise ring wearing Jonas Brothers but Jordin Sparks came to their defense and called Brand a slut. Rihanna looked amazingly badass twice -opening the show with "Disturbia" and later doing a duet with T.I. Other performances included Kanye, Christina Aguilera, Pink, the Jonas Brothers and Kid Rock - all of them full of energy and enjoyable. Also, Demi Moore, Lauren Conrad and Michael Phelps presented awards! So much to talk about, what was your favorite part?

Miss Britney Jean Spears is back! At last year's disastrous VMAs, she looked lost, hurt, and confused. But last night, Brit picked up a few awards, giving her plenty to smile about.

What a difference a year makes! I haven't covered Britney's style very much over the last year, because let's face it: She's had much more important things to worry about than how she looks. With that said, though, she seems much more confident and healthy these days, and if looking this coiffed and glossed is part of her comeback, I'd say she's doing a fine job. Would you?

The Sexy, Sultry Ladies Heat Up the VMA Red Carpet

The ladies hit the VMAs red carpet and managed to look cool under the blazing LA sun yesterday afternoon and we were there to get a peek at the action. Lindsay Lohan turned heads in her skintight black dress though I spotted her changed into pants and a sexy top when she made her way into the show with Samantha right behind. We didn't get to see Ashlee Simpson on the red carpet, but I did spot her sneaking in the side entrance to the show right after Pete - I will say that baby bump is huge and she is positively glowing. Bar Refaeli looked stunning though was happier to talk to us about her girls' vacation in St Tropez than when a reporter asked her about Leo's whereabouts. Nicky Hilton told us she was excited for the show after deciding last minute to come and wore an Open Ceremony dress while Taylor Swift is just the sweetest thing ever. She's so pretty, poised and polite.

Also on the red carpet were the ladies of The Hills - Lauren Conrad looked great mixing it up from her usual while Heidi was attached to Spencer even when they had to sip champagne waiting to be let in to the packed auditorium. Of course, Heidi and Spencer were happy to talk to the press and Britney was the topic on everyone's mind. They were excited for this to be the best VMAs ever starting with Britney's opening moment.
