Jean Paul Gaultier Turned All His Models Into Amy Winehouse

Models at the latest Jean Paul Gaultier show were a big surprise when they hit the runway, and not just because of Gaultier's iconoclastic ensembles. The designer sent out an army of Amy Winehouse clones, all bedecked in huge beehives, thick retro eyeliner, and Ms. Winehouse's signature "beauty mark" (which was actually a piercing). One of the doppelgängers was even smoking a cigarette. Gaultier genuinely seems to be inspired by Amy's singular sense of style and her music as well - the soundtrack to the show was comprised entirely of her songs. So far, reviews of the collection are positive, and everyone involved seems well intentioned. Still, given how recently Amy passed, is it fair to ask whether copying her look is appropriate just yet?

Today would have been Amy Winehouse's 28th birthday. While we're still in shock over her passing, there's no denying what an amazing talent she was. NYX Nixes Amy Winehouse Contest

Here's the story of an Amy Winehouse tribute gone wrong... then right. On Wednesday, NYX cosmetics announced a contest for people to show off their best makeup looks inspired by the late singer. Contestants were invited to create a video tutorial inspired by any of her videos, with instructions to "include 90% of NYX Cosmetics products to create the look." One winner would receive a coupon code for 50 percent off purchases at the brand's ecommerce website.

Not entirely surprisingly, the contest didn't sit well with some people, and yesterday, NYX canceled the whole shebang. "On second thought, we now feel that it would be insensitive to hold this contest," a new missive announced. Instead, the brand is making a donation to the forthcoming Amy Winehouse Foundation, which will help people battling substance abuse. Seems like a more fitting way to remember a woman known not just for her beehive and eyeliner, but for a life marked by talent, triumph, and tragedy.

On The View today, Lady Gaga talked openly about the recent death of 27-year-old musician Amy Winehouse and some of the similar struggles she's gone through as an artist. Lady Gaga was unapologetic about her late friend's lifestyle, saying she wasn't the one who needed to learn a lesson, the world (and the media) needed to learn a lesson about kindness and the pressures of super-stardom. She also talked about her own history with hard drug use and how it was her father who helped her recover from it.
