Salma Hayek and Antonio Banderas Meet Up in Madrid For the Goya Awards

Salma Hayek hit the red carpet in Madrid last night on the arm of her husband, Francois-Henri Pinault, for the 2012 Goya Awards, the Spanish equivalent of the Oscars. She was joined by her Puss in Boots costar Antonio Banderas and his wife Melanie Griffith. Salma was in attendance as a presenter and nominee, having earned an accolade for her work in La Chispa de la Vida. Antonio was likewise up for an honor thanks to his role in The Skin I Live In.

Antonio lost to Jose Coronado, but Antonio's film still won in four other categories. The Artist, which also fared well in Spain, added another win to their long list of accolades with the best European film award. The Artist could be a major winner this weekend when the Academy Awards roll into Hollywood on Sunday. Antonio Banderas Is Just Having Fun Playing Roles From the Bad Guy to Puss in Boots

Antonio Banderas is one of the many male leads in Steven Soderbergh's Haywire, which hits theaters this Friday on Jan. 20. Unlike in real life, for much of the movie Antonio sports a big beard. He revealed how he and Steven came to include the facial hair in the film, and also spoke about the variety of roles he's played over the last 12 months including his part in this picture, Puss in Boots, and The Skin I Live In. Robert Pattinson took the stage in LA last night for the Hamilton Behind the Camera Awards held inside the Conga Room. He paid tribute to his New Moon director Chris Weitz, and later mingled with a crowd that included his Water For Elephants costar Christoph Waltz as well as Jon Hamm and Antonio Banderas. Rob looked back on the second film in the Twilight series during a break from promoting the next movie. Breaking Dawn Part 1 is out on Nov. 18, and talking up that picture has been consuming most of Rob's time in recent weeks. Robert and costar Kristen Stewart started their weekend Friday at a press junket, before moving on to a Twilight Q&A session Saturday, where the real-life couple were extra adorable with their stolen glances between queries.

The stars hit the red carpet in front of fans after a group of flamenco dancers entertained the audience. We chatted with the duo about their history working together, and Salma shared how much her 4-year-old Valentina loved the animated movie. Salma's daughter has been traveling with her around the country as she and Antonio promote the 3D film. They recently made stops in Chicago, Miami, and Dallas, and Salma and Valentina visited an aquarium during their short time in Florida. Salma and Valentina Head South For a Trip to the Aquarium and a Puss in Boots Premiere

Salma Hayek was hand in hand with Valentina Pinault during their visit to the Seaquarium in Miami on Saturday. The mother and daughter headed to Florida for a premiere of Puss in Boots, which took place yesterday, and took advantage of some downtime in the state to stop by the aquarium. Salma even snapped some photos up close and personal with a dolphin during the day out. The trip South was the latest for Salma in what has already been a hectic Fall for the actress. Salma attended the Balenciaga show with her husband, Francois-Henri Pinault, earlier this month as they took in Paris Fashion Week. Yesterday, Salma's focus was on film rather than fashion and she joined forces with her costar Antonio Banderas to attend a special screening of their animated movie on the Allure of the Seas cruise ship in Fort Lauderdale. Next up Antonio and Salma will bring Puss in Boots to San Francisco ahead of next week's LA debut.

Pedro Almodovar Would Direct in English For Meryl Streep or Kate Winslet

Spanish director Pedro Almodovar's The Skin I Live In will be out in the US this Friday, and he was in NYC this week to screen the film during the New York Film Festival. He and his leading man Antonio Banderas linked up for interviews Monday. The thriller is their latest collaboration after a 21-year break from working together; their last project was 1990's Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!, and Almodovar helped launch Banderas's career with other Spanish-language projects like Matador and Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown. Both spoke about their professional reunion, and Banderas revealed what it's like to fully place his trust with a director. Almodovar, who prefers to work independently in Europe, also spoke about the only two actresses he'd be tempted to work with in English. They said:

Almodovar on working in English: "I would like to discover Meryl Streep, Kate Winslet . . . no seriously! One of the reasons, if I make a movie in English, one of the reasons will be just to work with many wonderful actresses and actors that are here. Just the two that I mentioned. But that unfortunately the movies will be in English and I would have to improve my English . . . But really I would like to discover in the sense that it would be the first time for me."
Banderas on what it meant to work with Pedro again: "I did what I think any actor who works with Pedro Almodovar should do, which is to take a leap of faith. With Pedro Almodovar especially."
Almodovar on reuniting with Antonio after 21 years: "What was the same was his disposition toward the work. And fortunately, he's still an attractive man. And he's still so at the age of 51 . . . For me, what was fantastic was that during the shooting he was absolutely the same person. I don't know if he is conscious of that. I have pictures from Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! . . . They are almost the same pictures. The way he behaves with the rest of the crew, or even with me."

Almodovar on not going Hollywood: "I'm myself despite of myself . . . Integrity is not something one does purposefully. Everything that I make, as a director as well as a person, I decided with complete freedom. But also I was very faithful of what my real ambition was in every time. And perhaps for an outsider, it can be seen as a kind of purity. But in my case I couldn't avoid it. When I refused, for example, to go to Hollywood and make movies there, I don't want to be applauded because of that. At the moment, I was 30-a-lot - almost 40, the first time. At that moment, I know exactly what I wanted, what my real ambition was as a filmmaker. And that was not going to Hollywood and make movies there . . . the way that I work doesn't fit really with a big studio production system."
Banderas on striving for a '40s acting feel: "[Pedro] talked to me a lot about Cary Grant . . . he made a lot of proposals to me to watch movies of film noir made in the '40s and '50s because the acting was different - it was more laid back. It was not so active in terms of describing reality in every single detail . . . he wanted me to be that type of actor like Robert Mitchum, that attacked those characters in a different way of acting."
Almodovar on working with Banderas again: "Antonio is, like me, a very expressive person, like me, a very raw person. He said, 'Pedro! I want to make a comedy with you again!' Yes, soon . . . And I would like to do it because he's so funny, fortunately he never stopped his relation with our language and our culture and the country. He's perfectly ready to make anything there. I will not wait 21 years, but I don't know when it's going to happen."

She and boyfriend Michael Sheen were also together this morning at the Midnight in Paris photocall, though they seemed to show even more PDA at tonight's event - Michael sweetly helped with her dress as she ascended the stairs, and they huddled close while posing alongside costars Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody, and the French actress Lea Seydoux. Rachel and Michael made the trip to France together in order to promote the comedy after a stay in LA doing press and hanging out with his 12-year-old daughter, Lily.

Salma Hayek and Antonio Banderas were in a playful mood today at the Cannes Film Festival during a photocall for Puss in Boots. Salma wore a dramatic, leather Gucci dress with flowers around the shoulders in the spirit of Jennifer Lopez's Met Gala gown to the event, which was held along the water at Carlton Beach. The actress, who just launched her makeup line Nuance by Salma Hayek in NYC last week, showed off her fun chemistry with Antonio as they posed on the red carpet and on a giant pair of boots. They're just a few of the international stars who have made their way to France for the prestigious cinema fest. Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz will be there for a special premiere of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Angelina Jolie will attend for Kung Fu Panda 2, and Brad Pitt will debut the Terrence Malick-directed The Tree of Life.
