Mila and Scarlett Heat Up the Correspondents' Dinner With Hot Hollywood Couples

The annual White House Correspondents' Dinner brought celebrities and the media stars who love them to the White House in Washington DC on Saturday night. Scarlett Johansson and Sean Penn were inseparable after the event, but she first walked the red carpet with her brother Hunter. Other couples were more comfortable posing before the cameras, with Jon Hamm cozying up to Jennifer Westfeldt, Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer sticking together, and Paul Rudd making the rounds with wife Julie when not chilling with Parks and Recreation funny girls Amy Poehler and Rashida Jones. Salma Hayek also had her husband Francois-Henri Pinault on hand, and Chace Crawford tagged along with sister Candice and her fiancé Tony Romo. The Vampire Diaries duo Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder made the rounds, as Mila Kunis made one half of an interesting pair with CNN's Wolf Blitzer. Seth Meyers was the evening's emcee, but it was President Obama who stole the show. The president hit back at critics like Donald Trump and even Matt Damon, who recently expressed disappointment with the administration. Obama said of Damon, "I've even let down my key core constituency: movie stars. Just the other day, Matt Damon - I love Matt Damon, love the guy - Matt Damon said he was disappointed in my performance. Well, Matt, I just saw The Adjustment Bureau, so. . . .right back atcha, buddy."

Paul: The Buddy Movie Goes Extraterrestrial

In Paul, British comedians and frequent costars Nick Frost and Simon Pegg reunite for the first time since 2007's Hot Fuzz. Frost and Pegg costar as Clive and Graeme, two sci-fi fanboys on vacation in America to catch Comic-Con before heading off on an alien-inspired road trip.

The buddies are having the time of their lives stopping by UFO-related landmarks, but their trip takes a momentous turn when they come upon an actual alien. Named Paul, the little green guy is trying to escape a department of the government that has held him captive for a few years and now wants to harvest his brain for research. Voiced by Seth Rogen, Paul is a CGI creation in the form of the big-eyed, big-headed aliens humans have imagined for years.

Hot on their trail are a number of trackers: Jason Bateman is a Men in Black-type with very little sense of humor, Bill Hader and Joe Lo Truglio are a couple of clueless agents who don't know they're following an alien, and David Koechner is a redneck out to get the boys for being foreign. The ensemble of funnymen and cameos by other favorites, like Jane Lynch and Blythe Danner, adds another dimension of fun.

read more. Rogen pulls off a feat of making Paul a real character, imbuing him with more than just a voice. Paul has distinctive, laid-back mannerisms and a friendly, full personality that makes him more than just a cartoonish afterthought. On the flip side, Kristen Wiig isn't used to her full potential. As Ruth, a religious zealot who has her mind blown by the existence of Paul, the very funny actress is squandered. As Ruth embraces a new lifestyle of doing what she wants, Wiig gets one running joke: cussing. Though her phrasing is often very creative, it gets old fast. Paul caters to a very specific audience, to a fault. If you're not attuned to all pop culture references, you may wonder why the rest of the crowd is tittering at a seemingly insignificant line. In general, the movie is often funny, though never truly hilarious. And once you get to the climax and final act, the jokes drop off in favor of wrapping up the story. At that point, it becomes clear that the plot is paper thin, and you get bored waiting for the resolution. The problem Frost/Pegg fans may have with this installment is that it's grossly inferior to Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead. In those films, the concepts and plots are both more inspired and edgier. While Paul shares the brand of humor of its predecessors, it's only a mildly satisfying fix for fans.

Bill Hader and Joe Lo Truglio are two of the comic forces of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost's upcoming movie Paul, which features Seth Rogen as the voice of the title alien. Joe and Bill were on hand for the film's recent junket in NYC, where both actors talked about their admiration for Shaun of the Dead masterminds Simon and Nick. Bill was fresh off a weekend of work on SNL, while Joe opened up about working with Jennifer Aniston on Wanderlust. They somehow managed to work in talk of court-mandated restraining orders and beer bongs.

Bill Hader, Andy Samberg, and Tons of Funny People Line Up For Hand Job

What if NBC's Thursday night comedy block had a baby with Saturday Night Live? You'd get the movie Hand Job, a comedy written and directed by Bill Hader's wife, Maggie Carey, that's quickly assembling a cast that includes so many of my favorite funny people. Community's Donald Glover and Andy Samberg have just signed on to appear in the movie, along with Hader and Parks and Recreation's Aubrey Plaza, who has the lead role.

Plaza plays a Type A high school senior who worries that she hasn't had enough sexual experience before going away to college, so she sets out to get some (pardon the pun). Also lending support to an already amazing cast are Alia Shawkat, Connie Britton, and Plaza's Scott Pilgrim vs. the World costars Mae Whitman and Johnny Simmons. I'm already totally seduced by the idea of this movie, in part because it's usually guys who are trying to pawn off their virginities (e.g. Superbad). My only qualm: can Plaza, who usually shines as a supporting character, handle a leading role?

The New Pornographers Recruit Movie and TV Stars For Their "Moves" Music Video

Don't be fooled by the intro for The New Pornographers' latest music video: it's not really a trailer for a terrible-looking comedy called Expectant Dads, starring Paul Rudd and Bill Hader. The funny fake-out is the lead-in for for "Moves," which itself plays out like a short film, following the genesis of the band in a satirized, Behind the Music-style story. Keep your eyes peeled for cameos by Donald Glover, Horatio Sanz, and John Hodgman, as well as fellow musicians like Ted Leo. And if you're really dying to know more about that Paul Rudd/Bill Hader movie that will never be? There's a website.

Matt Damon Brings Luciana to Her First Post-Baby Red Carpet at True Grit NYC Premiere

Matt Damon had a ravishing in red Luciana by his side at the NYC premiere of True Grit last night, which was the first time she's hit the carpet since giving birth to baby Stella in late October. Matt has been shooting Contagion in chilly Chicago for the past few weeks, but now he has to take care of the promotion for his highly-anticipated new release. When he's home on the East Coast, Matt and Luciana like to take their girls for walks in Central Park, which is just part of what makes this family man one of our favorite guys of the year. The busy actor is always looking toward his next project and despite a Golden Globes snub we're still hoping his name is a big one for award season. His costar Jeff Bridges is also doing the press rounds for Tron: Legacy and he chatted with us about his wife's role in the movie and photography skills. Anne Hathaway joined a variety of current and former Saturday Night Live stars for the American Museum of Natural History's 2010 Gala yesterday evening. Kristen Wiig, Bill Hader, Abby Elliott, and more had the evening off from prepping for this weekend's new episode, which Anne will be hosting. Anne made a rare public appearance with boyfriend Adam Shulman on her arm, while Tina Fey also enjoyed a date night with her husband, Jeff Richmond. Lately, Anne has been inseparable from her Love and Other Drugs costar Jake Gyllenhaal, who hit the town instead with Natalie Portman for a charity party. Jake and Anne have been all over in the run-up to Wednesday's release of their movie, and you seem excited to finally see their supposedly steamy chemistry up on the big screen.

Emma Stone Toasts Her SNL Success With Blake, Jon, and a Culkin

Emma Stone and her collaborators from SNL like Andy Samberg, Fred Armisen, Seth Meyers, and Bill Hader hit the town in NYC on Saturday to celebrate her turn as host. Jon Hamm, who's making the Big Apple party rounds since wrapping up the intense fourth season of Mad Men, also turned out ahead of his stint on the show next week. His costar in The Town, Blake Lively, also toasted Emma, as did John Mayer. Musical guests Kings of Leon were out too, with Caleb Followill bringing his model fiancée, Lily Aldridge. Emma had plenty of male company at the bash, but she was spotted leaving with rumored boyfriend Kieran Culkin.

Jon Hamm Gets Toasted in the Town of New York

Jon Hamm was the guest of honor last night at a dinner hosted for him by the editors of Details in NYC. He's on the cover of the magazine's October issue solo, but he made the rounds at the party with his girlfriend, Jennifer Westfeldt, and caught up with SNL funny people like Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig. This morning, the Mad Men star was back on the promotional circuit to chat up his movie The Town ahead of its release tomorrow. He swung by the Regis and Kelly studios to record an interview that airs tomorrow. Jon also had time yesterday to pay a visit to Jon Stewart at The Daily Show - check out their funny exchange after the jump.

James Franco Is Still Haunted by the Spider-Man Series

There's no rest for the Franco. Tomorrow he'll make his triumphant return to General Hospital, and guess what he did to gear up for it? That's right - he decided to make another one of his infamous viral videos for Funny or Die. This time Franco teams up with Bill Hader to pay homage to the Spider-Man series in honor of Sam Raimi's birthday . . . which apparently isn't actually until October. Nevertheless, this one had me chuckling all the way through, mostly due to Hader's spot-on impression of Willem Dafoe.
