Carrie, Taylor, Gwyneth, and Leighton Make a Strong Showing at the CMA Awards

The red carpet at the 2010 CMA Awards in Nashville brought together lovely ladies from both the music and acting worlds last night. Cohost Carrie Underwood chose a slate gray Talbot Runhof gown for her arrival while Gwyneth Paltrow went with a sexy, side-baring Atelier Versace dress for her country music debut. Gwyneth's Country Strong costar Leighton Meester mixed things up in Emilio Pucci and Taylor Swift went with a bold red Monique Lhuillier. W cover girl Katherine Heigl, who was there to support her brother-in-law Lady Antebellum lead singer Charles Kelley, showed up in a bright blue strapless Farah Angsana number and was just one of the gorgeous girls with a flawless face.

Carrie opened the show with a musical number alongside Brad Paisley, who was named Entertainer of the Year, before changing into an array of gorgeous looks throughout the night. Nicole Kidman watched from the audience in white Dolce & Gabbana as her husband Keith Urban took the stage while Katherine and Josh Kelley cheered on Lady Antebellum as they accepted two statues. Gwyneth geared up for her big night with a pint of beer, and her much-anticipated live performance didn't disappoint - what did you think? She was game for a little teasing by Carrie and Brad, who asked if she could score them Coldplay tickets, though Chris Martin wasn't there to watch his wife's musical number. Taylor Swift didn't continue her winning streak, but she did take the stage to perform "Back to December" - congrats to everyone honored during country's big evening!

Blond hair ruled on the red carpet at last night's CMT Music Awards in Nashville. Taylor Swift mixed things up with a slightly edgier look than we're used to from her, straightening out those trademark curls. Carrie Underwood stood out in pink as both country princesses headed in to see what would come of their three nominations apiece. Brand-new mom of two Sheryl Crow displayed her rocking legs, which had an especially nice glow after her recent bikinis Bahamas vacation with her son Wyatt. Faith Hill was glamorous as ever while Hayden Panettiere showed some skin in her lacy cutout dress.

Kid Rock played host for the award show and kept things light with a Kanye West joke to kick things off. Keith Urban, Miranda Lambert, and Carrie Underwood were the big winners - check out the whole list here. Keith gave a heartfelt thank you to his wife Nicole Kidman who skipped the red carpet but was supporting him all night long from her seat. Carrie planted a kiss on her fiancé Mike Fisher and later made a speech that included an emphatic "Awesome fans! Awesome, awesome, amazing, awesome, awesome!" Keith also performed with John Mayer, for which the guys spent the day practicing. Mayer's mystery illness didn't slow down his sense of humor as he flashed his abs to compare with Jersey Shore's The Situation, who was of course there with a few of his castmates. Carrie and Brad Paisley were among the evening's other musical acts as the country world gathered together to celebrate their genre and Nashville in the wake of the city's recent tragic flood.

After Lady Gaga released her tech-centric "Telephone" video on Friday, I couldn't help but rack my brain about other songs that include references to modern-day geek and tech culture. After doing some digging, I can safely say there are plenty of tunes out there, but I couldn't list them all. Narrowing it down to 10 geeky songs that got some major radio play in the past few years was tough, but it had to be done. Could number one on the list be the geekiest song/video combo ever? Beyonce - "Videophone" Beyonce may be a good girl in real life, but her alternate persona, Sasha Fierce, talks about taking sexy videos on her man's phone in this tune from 2009. Maybe she can do a follow-up on her next album about the dangers of sexting.
Soulja Boy - "Kiss Me Through the Phone" Long-distance relationships can be tough, especially when you're on the road like Soulja Boy. He tells his "future wifey" to text and kiss him through the phone while he's gone. How sensitive!
Lady Gaga ft. Beyonce - "Telephone" Not only is this jam riddled with cell phone, text, and phone call references, but the video is also one big product placement for popular gadgets and geek culture.
Jay-Z - "D.O.A. (Death of Autotune)" Jay-Z made his feelings about the music industry's over-use of auto tune quite clear in this 2009 release. He wants it to die. Nuff said.
Britney Spears - "Email My Heart" Our favorite pop princess broke a poor boy's heart back in 1999, and she's trying to make it up to him by sending him mushy apology notes via email. Some might call that tacky (and suggest sending a hand-written note), but don't hate - she was just ahead of the tech movement.
'NSync - "Digital Getdown" Video chatting never seemed so dirty as when the boys of 'NSync sang about it in this hit from 2000. Also, who knew 'NSync was so ahead of the auto-tune curve?
Trey Songz - "LOL :-)" This hit from 2009 includes references to texting, sexting, twitpics, iPods, and following him on Twitter. This is one rapper who knows how to use his tech to, uh, get what he wants.
Daft Punk - "Technologic" You really can't label yourself a geek unless you've heard this 2005 hit from the French techno duo. It's a pounding tune that fires off tech verbs throughout the entire four minute and 45 second song.
Weird Al - "White and Nerdy" Yes, Weird Al is known for his hilarious song parodies, but this one kinda tops them all. He's fluent in Java script as well as Klingon? Come on, you know you love it.
Brad Paisley - "Online" OK, hear me out - I didn't know this song from 2007 even existed, but it's one seriously geeky tune, and has a totally fun video to boot. "Online" not only satirizes the online dating world - referencing MySpace, three-way chatting, sci-fi, and Macs - but the video also stars Jason Alexander (of Seinfeld fame) and - wait for it - William Shatner! It doesn't get any better than that. Plus, who knew Brad Paisley was such a geek?

Country Shines Bright and Taylor Cleans Up at the CMAs!

Last night we gave you a taste of the CMA Awards, and now here's the whole set! For the younger women, it was all about the shine on the red carpet from Taylor Swift's typical beautiful sparkly gown to Carrie Underwood's mirrored number. Carrie was one of the hosts of the night along with Brad Paisley, so once she stepped inside it was all about the costume changes for her. Nicole Kidman had nothing but love for her husband Keith Urban, who was a nominee. Faith Hill and Tim McGraw always look classic together and this was no exception.

Taylor kicked off the show with a wild performance of "Forever and Always" where she threw around her long blond hair as she sang. There were no semi-subtle kisses for Taylor Lautner this time, but the two have a lot to celebrate next time they see each other - she won the biggest award of the night, Entertainer of the Year! She also won for female vocalist of the year, album of the year and music video of the year for "Love Story." Carrie Underwood walked away empty handed, but she and Brad Paisley did a great job hosting the show which included a few jokes at the expense of Kanye West. Kid Rock and Dave Matthews Band were also among the performers at the fun country-filled award show.

Country star Brad Paisley is a Twitter fiend. His wife, Kimberly Williams-Paisley: not so much. Perhaps she's too busy coining clever new words like "twittow," which Paisley unveiled in a recent tweet.

A mashup of Twitter and widow, "twittow" refers to a woman who is virtually abandoned by her constantly twittering mate. So I guess that means a man neglected by a twittering ladyfriend is a twittower?

Fast-Paced Stars Rev Their Engines For Dodge

Some of our favorite Gossip kids, Chace Crawford and Michelle Trachtenberg, were just a few of the stars out at the Willow Springs Raceway in Rosamond, CA, yesterday for the Dodge Challenger Celebrity Drag Race. They were joined by the likes of Audrina Patridge in her badass outfit, who has already demonstrated her need for speed on the back of Justin Bobby's motorcycle, as well as Carmen Electra, who posed with her fiancé and Luke Wilson. As for David Spade, well, he just made silly faces on the sidelines, and Snoop looked cool as ever, so nothing new there.
