Baby Buggy - the charity founded by Jessica Seinfeld that distributes new and gently used baby products to New York City families in need - is one such cause. The organization has given away more than 50 million baby products since it started, and for its 10th anniversary, Jessica organized a night of comedy featuring none other than her husband, Jerry Seinfeld, as well as Jon Stewart and Colin Quinn. The comedic lineup drew a crowd of celeb supporters including Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos, Bridget Moynahan, Chrissy and Nigel Barker, Ali Wentworth and George Stephanopoulos, Rosie Pope, Kyle MacLachlan and Desiree Gruber, and Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness. Gwyneth Paltrow got some of her best Big Apple girlfriends together last night for Good Housekeeping's Shine On Awards, which honored the achievements of powerful women. The actress was there to salute the work and raise awareness around maternal health done by Christy Turlington Burns, and they shared the evening with other ladies like Meryl Streep, Rebecca Romijn, and new mom Ali Larter. Gwyneth, who was on the cover of the magazine's February issue, has been busy with her return to Glee, which airs next week, and promoting her latest publication - she hosted a dinner for friends like Cameron Diaz, Jay-Z, and Mario Batali on Monday to toast her new cookbook My Father's Daughter. She was on hand yesterday to congratulate others, but Gwyneth took a minute to discuss the long hours she spends maintaining her awesome figure. Gwyneth said on the red carpet, "The reason that I can be 38 and have two kids and wear a bikini is because I work my [expletive] ass off. It's not an accident. It's not luck, it's not fairy dust, it's not good genes. It's killing myself for an hour and a half five days a week, but what I get out of it is relative to what I put into it. That's what I try to do in all areas of my life."

Battle: Los Angeles - Not Worth Fighting For

You're already privy to everything you need to know about Battle: Los Angeles. It has aliens. It has explosions. It has Aaron Eckhart using his most gruff voice to lead a platoon to protect Los Angeles against said aliens and said explosions. All that can be gleaned from the trailer, and unfortunately, the full experience doesn't go much deeper than the preview, leaving us a film with a lot of bark and no bite.

Set in the not-so-distant future of August 2011, the film takes us to - wait for it - Los Angeles, where Marine staff sergeant Michael Nantz (Eckhart) is ready to be discharged after 20 years of service and a recent stint in Iraq that cost him the lives of a few of his men, not to mention the respect from the rest of his platoon. But Michael is forced to change his plans and rise to the occasion when major cities around the globe fall under alien attack, and LA is next on the hit parade.

The first fifteen minute minutes of the film are a feeble attempt to connect the audience to the characters they're about to spend two hours with, but the introductions are glossed over so quickly that it's hard to care about which Marines are getting blown up and which are still fighting to save the city. Michael's need to prove himself as a leader is meant to be a major conflict, but he's so dry and brusque that his feats of courage aren't as fun to watch when you don't feel any attachment to the character. Director Jonathan Liebesman uses every trick in the book for the events that follow. Shaky hand-held camera work is meant to make you feel like you're a part of the action, but it only gave me a headache. A couple of civilians and children are thrown into the mix to make the film hit closer to home (it doesn't). Michelle Rodriguez shows up to act as the film's token tough chick, a role she can probably play in her sleep. Even the occasional joke referencing "extraterritorials" or lines about kicking some alien butt provide cheap laughs, but feel forced and tired. The movie is chock-full of gratuitous fight scenes as the robotic-looking aliens and their advanced weapon system wreak havoc on the city of angels. The aliens look cool enough, but the story of what they're doing on earth or where they come from is barely touched upon. With little backstory on the marines and no mystery behind the unexpected enemy, Battle: Los Angeles is only marginally more interesting than watching a video game that you aren't playing. There's something to be said for a mindless blockbuster, but in an age where films like District 9 have pushed the limits of sci-fi action movies, why play it safe? Explosions and special effects can only go so far without a real story to illustrate, making Battle: LA an utterly mediocre movie that fails to push the limits.

Aliens Invade in the Epic Trailer For Battle: Los Angeles

Hasn't Hollywood reached its saturation point with alien disaster flicks? Apparently not, because next year will bring Battle: Los Angeles. Set in 2011, the film follows a series of events as extraterrestrials raid Earth, and one country after another succumbs to their attacks. Aaron Eckhart stars as a Marine staff sergeant trying to protect LA - the only city still standing. Bridget Moynahan also appears (apparently as the movie's damsel in distress), along with Michelle Rodriguez, who will be doing her signature tough-chick shtick.

The film sounds like typical blockbuster material, but the trailer bombards the senses (in a good way). They've packed in an insane amount of special effects, the music's incredibly eerie (and surprisingly moving), and we get just a peek at the alien life forms without giving too much away. Pilot Scoop: Blue Bloods

I'm totally changing gears here with the Fall TV pilots, and switching from my assessment of Hellcats to something heavier: CBS's new drama, Blue Bloods.

What it's about: The Reagans have served the NYPD for multiple generations: grandfather Henry (Len Cariou) was the chief of police, his son Frank (Tom Selleck) is currently in the job, and Frank's children Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) and Erin (Bridget Moynahan) also maintain law and order (as a detective and an assistant D.A., respectively). Now, the youngest of the household, Jamie (Will Estes), is being welcomed into the fold, having just graduated from the police academy. The family members butt heads, but ultimately try to help each other out when it comes to solving a hard-to-crack case.

Where it works: The show has the same writing team as The Sopranos, so what more do you need? I don't care much about the actual episode-to-episode police cases - that's why you have every other procedural drama on television - but the family relationships here really hit a nice chord. The pilot sets up who each Reagan is (without giving away too much), and a surprise twist with a police conspiracy should keep viewers invested beyond just the first few weeks.

Where it doesn't: A couple of the characters feel clichéd, specifically Danny, who is the hot-tempered cop that's not afraid to take drastic measures for justice. He has a sweeter, family-man side to help round him out, but I still feel like we've seen this over-the-top type before.

Am I hooked? Definitely. I enjoy seeing the family interact (not to mention, Estes is nice to look at), and the pilot sets up enough suspense that I'm already dying to see the second episode.

Bridget Moynahan Didn't Have Picket Fence Fantasy; Did You?

Not all moms need marriage and the carriage. Self magazine's August cover girl, Bridget Moynahan, didn't. Though she and ex Tom Brady split before their son John, 2, was born, the actress's social life wasn't affected. She said:

When I was six months pregnant, my belly was like an enormous watermelon. But it didn't hamper my dating life! I do look at men differently now; there's a whole category that isn't in the running: somebody who doesn't want a family. And, while I'd love to have more children, I'm not sure I want another on my own. One is portable; two are not. Anyone I date is going to have an open heart. I never had the fantasy that I was going to get married and have three kids and live in a house with a white picket fence. I couldn't ask to be in a better place right now, and there were multiple things that made all this - having a beautiful son and work I'm proud of and supportive friends - come true.
