The red carpet at last night's American Music Awards featured lots of gorgeous girls and sharply-dressed guys, but it was onstage where the most fantastic fashions were on display. Carrie Underwood is currently leading as your pick for best dressed on the way in, but we want to know what you think about what these five ladies wore during their performances. Kate, Nicole and Eva Share the Spotlight With CNN's Heroes

Anderson Cooper was the man of the evening on Saturday as he hosted the annual CNN Heroes Awards. The ceremony honored ten individuals who go above and beyond with their contribution to the world, and each was introduced to the crowd by a celebrity guest. Nicole Kidman, Kate Hudson, and Eva Mendes were a few of the ladies on hand to do the honors, while Carrie Underwood performed. The evening's biggest award, CNN's Hero of the Year, went to Efren Peñaflorida because of his efforts to bring education to underprivileged children in the Philippines. Kate and Nicole took the evening off from promoting Nine, though they were both out again last night for the American Music Awards. The ladies were joined by other actors like Neil Patrick Harris and Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and we'll be able to see the whole show when it airs Thanksgiving evening.

Stars Sparkle, Burn and Sing at the American Music Awards

The stars of last night's American Music Awards hit the red carpet before heading inside LA's Nokia Theatre for the main event. Janet Jackson kicked things off with an energetic eight minute performance, and the evening's first award then went to the Black Eyed Peas. The Black Eyed Peas went on to take the stage to do "Boom Boom Pow" with a special Nirvana twist. The show went on with performances from Carrie Underwood and Shakira, as well as from Jay-Z and Alicia Keys with "Empire State of Mind." Unfortunately not everyone stayed on their feet - both Jennifer Lopez and Adam Lambert took tumbles while singing.

There were other memorable performances, from Lady Gaga, Rihanna, and not to mention Whitney Houston's return to the stage before she received the International Award of Excellence. Jennifer Lopez had a beaming Marc Anthony in the crowd as she debuted her new single and showed off those customized Louboutins. Michael Jackson won multiple awards, and his brother Jermaine took the stage to accept the award on behalf of their family. Taylor Swift took home the most statues, though she wasn't there and the upset of the night might have to go to Gloriana who won breakthrough artist - make sure to check out the full list of winners. Kate Hudson joined her Nine costars Fergie and Nicole Kidman, though Kate did have a chance to share a special moment with Alex Rodriguez. The Ladies Are Short, Long and Shiny on the AMA Red Carpet!

The 2009 American Music Awards descended on the Nokia Theatre in LA last night, which meant a star studded red carpet before the big show. It was a pleasant mixture of long and short dresses on all the ladies, though some even found a way to do both simultaneously like Rihanna in her cutout gown. Carrie Underwood has the early lead in Fab's best dressed poll, but Rih is close behind. Alicia Keys stood out in blue while Fergie's high slit meant she showed off some leg as she posed. Nicole Kidman spent most of her red carpet time on the arm of her husband Keith Urban - speaking of which, check out all the guys here.

Shakira and Selena Gomez cozied up for the cameras in their standout short dresses while Demi Lovato sported some bling around her neck. Country Shines Bright and Taylor Cleans Up at the CMAs!

Last night we gave you a taste of the CMA Awards, and now here's the whole set! For the younger women, it was all about the shine on the red carpet from Taylor Swift's typical beautiful sparkly gown to Carrie Underwood's mirrored number. Carrie was one of the hosts of the night along with Brad Paisley, so once she stepped inside it was all about the costume changes for her. Nicole Kidman had nothing but love for her husband Keith Urban, who was a nominee. Faith Hill and Tim McGraw always look classic together and this was no exception.

Taylor kicked off the show with a wild performance of "Forever and Always" where she threw around her long blond hair as she sang. There were no semi-subtle kisses for Taylor Lautner this time, but the two have a lot to celebrate next time they see each other - she won the biggest award of the night, Entertainer of the Year! She also won for female vocalist of the year, album of the year and music video of the year for "Love Story." Carrie Underwood walked away empty handed, but she and Brad Paisley did a great job hosting the show which included a few jokes at the expense of Kanye West. Kid Rock and Dave Matthews Band were also among the performers at the fun country-filled award show.

Carrie Underwood's new album Play On comes out on Nov. 3, and here's the new single off it called "Cowboy Casanova." It's pretty upbeat rather than the ballads she's so famous for, but she still has that strong voice and personality that come through every time. Carrie's quite the darling on the country music scene these days, but we'll see whether her new album is going to keep her at the top. Ladies Like Carrie, Nicole, Taylor Shine in Vegas at ACMs

The big bright stars of country music came together in Las Vegas last night for the Academy of Country Music Awards. Nicole Kidman stood out on the red carpet, laughing with Keith Urban in her daring dress, while the young ladies in the circuit like Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood lightened things up in their gorgeous gowns. Miley Cyrus looked surprisingly demure with her dad on her arm instead of boyfriend Justin Gaston. Inside the show it was all eyes on the ladies still as Carrie took home the biggest award of the night - entertainer of the year. She said, "I've had a lot of good moments in the last four years. This one takes the cake!" before giving cute a shout-out to her NHL boyfriend Mike Fisher.

Matthew McConaughey is new in the music scene, but he fits right in joking on stage about not losing his shirt while in Vegas and sitting in the audience with Camila Alves. Performers included Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, Keith Urban and more. Jamie Foxx is a frequent award show attendee and this time he took the chance to talk about change with Barack Obama in the White House and formerly-known-as-Hootie, Darius Rucker, on the country charts. Posh, Eva, and More Help Elton Raise Money After the Oscars

For many stars, Elton John's annual charitable Oscar party was the destination last night, and for others it was a stop along the way. Victoria Beckham, Eva Longoria, and Chace Crawford were just a handful of the beautiful people who stepped out to attend his 17th Oscar bash, which raised $4 million for AIDS by the end of the night. Kate Beckinsale had her husband Len as her date, while Ben Stiller ditched his Joaquin beard to chat up Ryan Seacrest. Elton took his turn at the piano to play "Benny and the Jets" for his guests and also shared a few words, saying, "People are going through tremendous hardship. In this time of hardship, we are going to raise as much money as we possibly can."

Simon Cowell looked happy to have Terri Seymour back on his arm after their recent split, while Quincy Jones was especially proud of his date, daughter Rashida. Claire Danes celebrated with her new fiance Hugh Dancy, and fellow musicians Josh Groban and Carrie Underwood got to take a night off from performing to celebrate a different aspect of the entertainment industry. Elton's was just one of the many star-studded afterparties the night offered, but combining a special cause with the festivities was an added Oscar night bonus.
