Matthew and Ben Get Support From Their Leading Ladies at Tower Heist's Premiere

Ben Stiller, Eddie Murphy, and Matthew Broderick got together last night for the NYC premiere of their comedy caper Tower Heist. Sarah Jessica Parker, wearing a tiered Narciso Rodriguez dress and Manolo Blahnik stilettos, was out late on a school night with her 8-year-old James Wilkie to show their love and support to Matthew. Ben cozied up to his lovely wife, Christine Taylor, on the red carpet while costars Eddie, Casey Affleck, Gabourey Sidibe, and Tea Leoni posed for photos before heading into the Ziegfeld Theatre. The screening brought out a variety of famous faces like Serena Williams, Donald Trump, Doutzen Kroes, and Diddy. Director Brett Ratner moved the afterparty to Stone Rose Lounge where he and the stars of the film partied late into the night alongside Jason Sudeikis and Mary-Kate Olsen.

Gisele Bundchen wore Oscar de la Renta on the red carpet at the AFI Life Achievement Award honoring Morgan Freeman held last night at LA's Sony Pictures Studios. The supermodel said hello to the man himself, hugging Morgan and the Brazilian TV presenter Hebe Camargo. Gisele also caught up with Morgan's daughter Alexia before moving inside to mingle with other celeb guests like Clint Eastwood, Matthew Broderick, Matthew McConaughey, Casey Affleck, Betty White, and Helen Mirren. Morgan's Amistad costar Matthew McConaughey rocked a new look with his handlebar mustache, though his girlfriend, Camila Alves, didn't seem to mind the new facial fuzz. Morgan said a few words about his career and humbly acknowledged one special role in Bruce Almighty. Morgan Freeman said of his AFI honor, "I should be ashamed to say that sooner or later, I knew that someone was going to call on me to play God. I just had to be sure that when I said OK, that it was a comedy."

It was October 2008 when Oscar-nominated actor Joaquin Phoenix announced his retirement from acting, but it wasn't until September 2010 that we finally learned the method to his madness.

After Phoenix followed-up his initial statement with a decision to try his hand at a career as a rap musician, many of us were left scratching our heads. The plot thickened when we learned that Phoenix's newfound bushy beard and standoffish demeanor were part of a documentary he was making with his brother-in-law, Casey Affleck. The media immediately cried hoax, but Affleck and Phoenix adamantly denied the allegations and continued to film Phoenix's downward spiral, which included awkward live rapping performances and one of the most uncomfortable interviews David Letterman has ever had.

read more. Phoenix kept a low profile for most of 2010, but we grew suspicious when he was caught by the paparazzi looking considerably more clean-cut than he had in awhile. He and Affleck premiered their documentary, I'm Still Here, at the Venice Film Festival, ahead of its September release. Critics still couldn't decide whether the story was true or not, but luckily we didn't have to wait very long to get an answer. Days after it hit the big screen, Casey Affleck came clean, admitting that the documentary was a two-year experiment and the film was the "performance of his [Phoenix's] career." Phoenix even appeared as his old self on Letterman, re-affirming that the film was all a ploy to see how much the media would believe. The film earned a scant $400,000 at the box office, and now the real question for 2011 is how quickly Phoenix will return to the big screen. Many of you said that you're ready to give him a second chance, but we'll have to wait and see if Hollywood feels the same way. Brett Ratner's upcoming project Tower Heist is already drawing comparisons to Ocean's 11, so who better to join the cast than a member of that franchise's ensemble? Casey Affleck has jumped on board for the action comedy, which follows a disgruntled staff at a luxury tower residence. Led by the building's manager (Ben Stiller), they try to get revenge on a Wall Street type who cheated them out of money; Affleck will play Stiller's underling and friend. After I'm Still Here, all I can say is thank goodness Affleck is taking on something light.

It's Official: Joaquin Phoenix's Movie I'm Still Here Is Fake

We can finally lay the great cinematic mystery of 2010 to bed: Casey Affleck's documentary I'm Still Here, which follows Joaquin Phoenix's attempt to enter hip-hop, is indeed a fake. The director confirmed everyone's suspicions in an interview this morning. While I always had a good degree of skepticism about the truthfulness of the film, the announcement still frustrates me. The charade feels like an insider joke that, frankly, I just don't get.

I'm Still Here: My Least Favorite Joaquin Phoenix Movie

If you're unfamiliar with the saga that has been Joaquin Phoenix's career for the past two years, let me refresh your memory. In October 2008, he abruptly announced that he was retiring from acting without giving much explanation. A few months later, he revealed that his brother-in-law, Casey Affleck, was directing a documentary chronicling his career change from actor to rapper. The bizarre news left many of us scratching our heads, and the fruit of Affleck and Phoenix's "collaboration" is equally confounding.

I'm Still Here: The Lost Year of Joaquin Phoenix takes us through Phoenix's changes, both physical and emotional. He starts off as the clean-cut, handsome actor whose career is just taking off thanks to Oscar-nominated roles in Gladiator and Walk the Line. What we're left with is the haggard, pot-bellied, petulant shell of a man who has lost his way entirely. As I watched Phoenix call prostitutes, ask Diddy for career advice, and pummel a heckler during one of his hip-hop shows, I had to wonder: if this film really isn't a hoax, then why was Casey Affleck filming these hijinks instead of getting help for his friend and family member?

The Affleck Brothers, Jon Hamm, Michelle Williams, and More Take Over the Venice Film Festival!

Ben Affleck arrived solo at LAX on Saturday night en route to the Venice Film Festival, where he met Jon Hamm for the first stop on their promotional tour for The Town. Jon's been hard at work filming Mad Men in California, while the most recent episode is being heralded as one of the best ever. Ben's not the only Affleck in Italy, as Casey is unleashing the highly anticipated Joaquin Phoenix "documentary" I'm Still Here. Ben and Casey spent some sweet time together with their families before heading to Europe and while both movies come out in September, they're so different it won't be much of a box office battle. The brothers both have red carpet screenings during the event this week and perhaps without wives and kids around, they'll be each other's dates.

Michelle Williams pulled up for a photo call by boat on Sunday morning after making a stunning entrance to show off her film, Meek's Cutoff, Saturday night. She's starting a long month of being photo-ready as she's off to Toronto for Blue Valentine next. Stephen Dorff joined director Sofia Coppola and Elle Fanning for the Friday night premiere of Somewhere as did Gossip Girl newcomer Clemence Poesy who will be a very familiar face when the show returns.

Ben and Casey Affleck's Fun Family Day With Their Wives and Kids!

Ben and Casey Affleck had their parents in town yesterday, which meant a family-filled afternoon in Pasadena, CA. Jennifer Garner spent another morning solo before she, Violet and Seraphina joined the crew at Huntington Gardens. Casey and his wife Summer brought their own two little ones, Indiana and Atticus. The kids all changed into swimsuits to splash around while the adults watched on and caught up with each other. Casey is moving on from his sexual harassment allegations drama, and it looks like the brothers had their own playful moments at the park. Both of the Affleck boys are bringing directorial projects to the Venice Film Festival this weekend - Casey's debuting his movie about brother-in-law Joaquin Phoenix, I'm Still Here, while Ben is showing off his Boston-based drama, The Town.
