Mayer and Mariah Make Grammy Nominations Into a Party

Last night the Grammy Awards took a new approach to nominations, making it a televised primetime event instead of reading out the nods early in the morning. John Mayer was one of the headliners and he also took home five nominations while Mariah sang and won two. Don't worry, Kanye's name is on the list too. Former Grammy winner Christina Aguilera isn't up for any this year, but she still got all gussied up for the red carpet. Taylor Swift hosted the night, but it was her ex Joe Jonas who may not be your dream guy, but picked up a nod for Best New Artist with the rest of the Jonas Brothers. In the end though, as we all know it was the year of Coldplay and Lil Wayne who led the nominations, check them out here.

Sugar Bits - I Am Legend Breaks Box Office Record

I Am Legend took the top spot at the box office over the weekend, breaking the previous record for the highest-grossing December opening, and bringing in $76.5 million. Congrats to Will, whose box-office pull is obviously still legend - wait for it - ary. - BuzzSugar
Tim Burton and Helena Bonham Carter welcomed their second child, a girl, on Saturday in London. Combined with Tim's Golden-Globe nomination, it's been quite a week for their family! - People

American Idol Reunion Rules At the AMAs

Last night was all about the AI alums at the American Music Awards. Carrie Underwood and Chris Daughtry (and his band) walked away with three glass pyramids apiece while Justin Timberlake won two, but had to accept via satellite. He seemed so thrilled about it, too. Check out the full list of winners here. Fergie got pretty emotional during her acceptance speech for Best Female Artist, but at least she remembered to thank hot Josh watching her from the audience. Alicia Keys didn't win any awards, but her performance was my favorite of the night. Another highlight was Beyonce and Sugarland's version of "Irreplacable," though maybe I just love that song no matter what. That wasn't B's biggest moment though - Usher gave a a sweet speech (but has some reading trouble) giving her the 5th ever special International Artist Award. Congrats to all the artists filling up their mantles with AMA statues.

Sexy Men and Sweethearts Sing Their Hearts Out

AMA winner Fergie opened the show last night with a medley of her latest and greatest hits. It was a strong start for a show that definitely included some memorable performances including glow in the dark dancer, Chris Brown and Rihanna who looked way better on stage than on the red carpet. Beyonce dressed down when she joined Sugarland for a duet of her hit Irreplaceable. Sexy Lenny (yes I have a huge thing for him) wore his usual all black as he sang a soon to be hit song from his new album. My favorite performance of the night was Alicia Keys (check out the video below). Not only was her voice killer but the songs she mixed together definitely got the crowd on their feet. She is a wonderful performer and even if I'm not used to seeing her do choreographed dance moves, she pulled it off. We have a feeling her album is going to knock Jay-Z off the top spot this week.

Celine and Patti Rule the World Music Awards

Monte Carlo was abuzz last night as old and new school pop stars came together for the World Music Awards. Monaco? Not too shabby. The event was hosted by Nip/Tuck's Julian McMahon, who just couldn't leave the marker at the office. Rihanna was a hot little thing on the red carpet and stage, helping to honor Patti LaBelle and her contribution to R&B. Patti performed on stage with Shaggy (of course). Bella wants to know, are you liking Rih's red lipstick/nail combo? I think they're no match for those sassy shoes. Avril, Mika and Akon also all went home with statues, but the big winner was Celine Dion. She received the night's biggest honor, the Legend Award. Speaking of Celine, she looked pretty fabulous at the big event - obviously she's been keeping in great shape gearing up for her album release in a week.
