Charlotte's Web Hits the Big Screen

Charlotte's Web premiered this weekend at the ArcLight Theatres in Hollywood. The classic children's book scored some big names for their latest movie including Julia Roberts as the voice of Charlotte and Dakota Fanning who plays Fern. Here's more:

"I was intimidated by the character at first," Roberts says. "You want to capture her essence, which is so complicated and interesting, and yet she really is a spider. So it was definitely tricky."

Dakota Fanning, who plays Fern, always wanted to play the classic character.

"I was such a fan of the book. I read it so many times and it meant so many things to me," Fanning says. "It's about life and friendship."

Fanning also saw a strange reaction from those who know her the best.

"My Mom cried when she saw me in the yellow Fern dress with the little red ribbons. Getting to see the classic illustrations come to life was special."

Working with some Hollywood-inspected swine was also special.

"My first Wilbur was only four weeks old," she says. "We had 50 to 60 of them working on the set and the pigs were all so sweet."

And smelly? "No, everyone thinks they smell, but they really don't," Fanning says.

Charlotte's Web hits theaters December 15th. Other big names helped out on the film as well including Oprah as Gussy the goose, Robert Redford as Ike the horse and Cedric the Entertainer as Oprah's husband Golly the goose. Christine Taylor brought her cute little girl to the premiere and Bridget Fonda was there too. Ashton, Demi, and Samantha Talk Tech in SF

Ashton Kutcher unveiled his new web venture yesterday at the TechCrunch 50 Conference in SF, but he was able to unwind afterwards at dinner with Demi, his business partner Jason Goldberg, and Jason's wife Soleil Moon Frye. He and Demi didn't make it to the afterparty at the Mezzanine club, but we were there to hear Samantha Ronson spin for guests like MySpace CEO and recent rumored Paris Hilton fling Chris DeWolfe and Will.I.Am. We got a chance to chat with Samantha about her tech toys and all her recent travels, from Australia to NYC for her sister Charlotte's fashion show and on to Toronto. Samantha said that she and Lindsay actually missed their scheduled flight to Canada, but it worked out well since it let them spend the night celebrating with the rest of the Ronson clan. We usually hear updates from Samantha through her MySpace blog, so it was a treat to get the news straight from the source.

Paris Is The Picture Of Innocence, Right?

Seriously Paris? From wearing all white, to attending church every Sunday, to carrying around the Bible and now this? Innocently eating ice cream while renting Charlotte's Web? Ok, you want to look innocent. Point taken. Enjoy your last 11 days pre-slammer. Meanwhile, an unlikely supporter is coming to Paris' defense. Simon Cowell recently said, "I feel a bit sorry for Paris to be honest with you. Does she deserve to go to jail? No, I don’t think so. But she’s a survivor. I’m not condoning what she did and I think she knows she made a mistake, but there’s worse things in the world and I just feel a bit sorry for her." I'm not sure I agree with him on that one, but I do like his suggestion for an alternate sentence: “She can come and stay with me for forty-five days.” Yup, he might be just the person to keep her in check.

The Critics' Choice Are All Sunshine and Dreamgirls

Award show season is in full swing and at Friday night's 12th annual Critics' Choice Awards in Santa Monica, Little Miss Sunshine and Dreamgirls were the big winners. Both films scored 4 awards, and the adorable Abigail Breslin won for best young actress. We're hoping this means we'll just get to see more and more of the darling little girl. The Departed won the top awards for both best picture and best director. Hurray for Scorsese and his boys!

Nicole's Family Outing

Nicole was spotted with her half sister and brother Sofia and Myles going to check out Charlotte's Web. We like seeing Nicole on wholesome family outings. Nicole's new man Joel Madden will be playing deejay in Vegas at Ghostbar for NYE. Wonder if Nicole will make an appearance to support her new guy...
