Grown Ups: Still Has Some Maturing to Do

Adam Sandler has made a career out of playing juvenile men. In Grown Ups, he may be older and wiser, but he's still the same old guy who laughs at fart jokes.

Sandler recruits his closest friends for this slapstick version of The Big Chill. Kevin James is the overweight one, David Spade is the lothario, Rob Schneider is the hippie-dippy guy, and Chris Rock is the somewhat effeminate member of the bunch. Indeed, Rock's casting is the only somewhat surprising thing about this movie that's chock-full of pratfalls, hot girls in short-shorts, and never-ending barbs. The boys love to make fun of each other, but unfortunately, their swipes are the meat of this movie. To hear more of what I mean,

read more. The actors play a group of childhood friends who reunite for the funeral of their grade-school basketball coach. With children and wives in tow, they spend the weekend in a cabin to reconnect - with each other and with their families. It's actually a very well-meaning, sweet message for a film that also tries to get its laughs from squirting breast milk. It's a contradiction that Sandler seems to struggle with: this moral of family togetherness in the midst of crude, gross-out humor. I'd actually argue that many of the jokes aren't as kid-friendly as the trailer might have you believe. What's worse, they're just not that funny. Where the movie does earn its cred is in its cameos. Sandler brings in all of the old gang - Colin Quinn, Steve Buscemi, and Tim Meadows play members of a rival basketball team, while Norm Macdonald's butt makes a quick appearance. If you've been following Sandler's films from the beginning, then you're sure to smile at the dose of nostalgia. Salma Hayek, Maria Bello, and Maya Rudolph also get in on the act as the mens' better halves, but their moments are few. Let's face it, this film is about the boys, and Sandler and Co. are having the time of their lives. Sandler rips on James's weight, Rock calls Sandler "Mr. Hollywood," and they all take jabs at Schneider. It's seems like a fun ride for this group of real-life friends - it's just a shame it's not a better time for the audience.

Salma Leads a Cast of Grown Ups at Her Big NYC Premiere

Adam Sandler got his Grown Ups costars together in NYC last night for their premiere. David Spade, Kevin James, and Chris Rock stuck by Adam on the red carpet, and Chris later remarked, "We're like the ladies from Sex and the City!" The event also brought out a slew of reality stars, from Real Housewives to J Woww and Snooki from the Jersey Shore. J Woww is excited for the upcoming release of Eclipse - she told us that she's actually Team Edward, because she's "always liked vampires." The girls also teamed up with their male counterparts to film a Twilight spoof for Jimmy Kimmel. Salma Hayek, though, stole the show in her little white dress after breaking out black and purple for press appearances earlier in the week. David shared a sweet story about his meeting Salma's daughter Valentina - check out our exclusive video from the scene!

Katy Perry played hostess last night at an MTV Movie Awards afterparty held in LA's Las Palmas club. Her fiance Russell Brand stuck close by her side for kisses and more PDA throughout the evening after recently opening up to us about their wedding plans. The bash was held in honor of Katy's new music, but Russell also had celebrating to do with his Get Him to the Greek nabbing second place at the weekend box office. Paris Hilton was excited to hang out with her sister Nicky, Snooki, and J Woww while the guys of Jersey Shore made the rounds nearby. Audrina Patridge left her girls from the Hills to get cozy with Glee's Mark Salling, and Lenny Kravitz smiled with daughter Zoe. Lindsay Lohan changed out of her sparkly jumpsuit into a dress, still covering her SCRAM with a pair of boots. Her whirlwind few days also included a bikini photo shoot for German Vogue, and she apparently kept her spirits high with too many Monster energy drinks.

Leo and Charlize Cheer the Lakers on to a Win Over the Celtics

The Staples Center was star-studded last night as famous fans headed out to see the Lakers take on the Celtics in their first playoff game. Leonardo DiCaprio broke from hanging out with Bar Refaeli to join friends sitting courtside, and he was in for a treat as his team clinched their first win with a score of 102-89. Charlize Theron also enthusiastically cheered from the sidelines, while David Duchovny pensively watched the action with a beer. The male stars of Grown Ups congregated together as well, with Chris Rock, David Spade, Adam Sandler, and Kevin James cracking each other up. Jason Bateman and Dustin Hoffman, meanwhile, hammed it up for the Kiss Cam and lip-locked in front of the thousands in the stadium.

Big Stars Step Out in London For the National Movie Awards!

London was brimming with big names this evening for the National Movie Awards. Katie Holmes was wearing a dress from her own Holmes and Yang collection and had Tom on her arm coming from a couple of days in NYC with sweet-loving Suri. Diane Kruger was decked out in Lanvin from head to toe and had her best accessory of all, Joshua Jackson, to pose by her side. Gwyneth Paltrow was a vision in pink while Orlando Bloom kept his hair unkempt to go with his snappy suit. Weigh in on all the red carpet looks on FabSugar UK - who do you think was best dressed?

Inside, Tom Cruise accepted the Screen Icon award while Peter Facinelli represented the Twilight cast for their dual wins for New Moon and Eclipse. The cast of Harry Potter also had their moment to shine with their special recognition award. Emma Watson, Daniel Radcliffe, and Bonnie Wright stuck together in the press room with their statue. Rihanna, Katy Perry, Taylor Lautner and More Have a Bright Night on the Kids' Choice Red Carpet

The stars came out to walk the orange carpet at the Kids' Choice Awards in LA on Saturday. Katy Perry kicked things off in her colorful and metallic gown, and she stopped to tell us all about her upcoming wedding to Russell Brand. She said, "I'm not that obsessed, but Russell's really obsessed with the wedding. Like, we go to breakfast, and he has to stop and get a bride magazine - it's a little crazy." Her good friend Rihanna kept things similarly short and sweet with her fashion, and she's also got a touch of the bridal fever since she's planning Katy's bachelorette party. Rihanna said, "I'm on it, I'm on it already!" Selena Gomez and Nikki Reed were ready for Spring in their little dresses, while Zoe Saldana was in jeans and a blazer.

The guys, meanwhile, kept things strictly casual. Cory Monteith was fresh off his bowling date with Taylor Swift, and when asked who won he said, "Not me - I suck at bowling!" Taylor's other close friend Taylor Lautner joined his Twilight costar Jackson Rathbone, while Dev Patel and Justin Bieber stuck with the dark jeans trend. No Middle Ground

While accepting her best actress award for her breakout role in Precious at the NAACP Awards, Gabourey Sidibe was hit with some weighty remarks from her director and, later, some unsolicited attention from Chris Rock. Precious director Lee Daniels took the podium to speak about his film, saying, "No one in Hollywood told me they wanted to see a movie about a 350 pound black girl who had HIV." Immediately realizing his offense, he back-peddled, "She's not 350 pounds, Gabby . . . but the book says . . . before you were hired." Gabourey looked on mortified, while Daniels struggled to dig himself out of a sinking hole. The remark puts Gabby's weight in the spotlight, when it's obviously her performance that deserves attention.

Still, what's equally disturbing is US Weekly's account of Chris Rock's on-stage butt grab: "[When] Sidibe won the night's best actress award . . . she laughed as presenter Chris Rock squeezed her bottom." OK? Now I'm confused. To see why,
