What to Download: New Music This Week

A long weekend means Tuesday is this week's Monday - and lucky for you, Tuesday brings lots of new goodies into the entertainment world. Not into this week's DVD releases? Here are a few new albums to help celebrate the short week.

You do know Jack: Jack Johnson doesn't stray too far from his mellow ways on his new album, To the Sea. It's the standard mix of Johnson's acoustic guitar serenades, though this time around he's added a bit more piano into his tunes. There's not much to really sink your teeth into here (I was kind of hoping for a new "Bubble Toes" or "Upside Down"), but if you're a Johnson fan, start with "From the Clouds" and "My Little Girl."

Your mom's music: Claymates will no doubt be excited when their icon Clay Aiken releases his latest album today. Appropriately titled Tried & True, the tracks are covers of big-band and jazzy classics from the '50s and '60s, like "Mack the Knife," "Can't Take My Eyes Off You," and "Moon River." While Aiken's voice sounds lush and the music is pretty (especially his duet "Crying" with Linda Eder), the album as a whole feels like a snooze. It's the epitome of easy listening, and while Aiken is sure to find an audience yet again, let's be honest - it probably isn't me.

Emo-riffic: Hawthorne Heights returns with their fourth album, Skeletons, and it's far from a musical evolution for the rock band. Those who are already current fans will be most pleased with songs like "Nervous Breakdown" and "Bring You Back," lyrical examinations of heartbreak and relationships set to pop-punk riffs. Things get a little too emo, though, with songs like "Boy," a whine about maternal love that seems suited for a band 10 years younger.

The GLAAD Awards Kick Off in NYC by Honoring Tyra

The annual series of nationwide GLAAD media award ceremonies kicked off this weekend in NYC. Vanessa Williams and her pregnant Ugly Betty costar Ana Ortiz were two of the attendees, while Tyra Banks received the Excellence in Media Award for her efforts to increase "visibility and understanding of the gay and lesbian community." T.R. Knight and Chris Noth also came out to show their support, taking the stage and looking handsome in their suits. Los Angeles and San Francisco awards are still coming up, but the Manhattan stars looked like they were enjoying the kickoff event as they smiled and mingled the night away.

Clay Aiken Proclaims on People: "Yes, I'm Gay"

Clay Aiken posed with his baby son, Parker, on the cover of this week's People Magazine, opening up for the first time about his often speculated about sexuality and proclaiming, "Yes, I'm Gay". Just a few years ago Lance Bass posed with an almost identical headline and now the former American Idol runner up is ready to be a new father out of the closet. The cover also proclaims, "I cannot raise a child to lie or hide things." There will be a lot more to come when the issue comes out, but so good for Clay to have the courage to be honest and what an adorable baby boy!

Fox has announced that Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles will be paired with 24 in January, while Prison Break will take a break till April. The network has also renewed Kitchen Nightmares and asked for fewer episodes of New Amsterdam. All the details are at The Futon Critic.
According to Hollywood Reporter, Clint Eastwood's cast of Changeling has expanded beyond Angelina Jolie to include John Malkovich and Jeffrey Donovan.
Warner Bros. Japan will produce a movie called Sushi King! Goes to New York, based on a popular TV show set in the world of sushi, Variety reports.
Cat Power will cover songs by Bob Dylan, Hank Williams, and James Brown on her next album, writes Billboard.
