Late Night Returns but the Globes Might Be a No Go

Conan O'Brien was almost unrecognizable sporting his strike beard in NYC yesterday. We've been missing Conan and our other late-night hosts, but luckily they'll be able to shave those faces for the cameras once again very soon. Both Conan and Jay Leno will be back on January 2, fending for themselves assuming that their writing teams will still be on strike. David Letterman may also be back if his writers accept an interim agreement through his independent production company.

While it seems like the strike may still be far from over, we're glad to see that at least some shows are coming back on the air especially since it seems as if the award shows are not getting the blessing from the writers' union. Apparently, they denied the requests to allow writers for the Oscars and Golden Globes. There is also talk of picket lines, but we're keeping our fingers crossed that they will work something out prior to the big shows. It's one of the gifts we are wishing for this holiday season.

The studios offered the striking writers a new contract that promises increased earnings when work is viewed online. A priest who has been sending creepy letters to Conan O'Brien for over a year was arrested Friday and charged with harassment and stalking after attempting to attend a taping of Late Night. Maybe Conan can benefit from the writer's strike by hiding out for awhile. - The NY Times
Rosie O'Donnell will not be starting her own primetime talk show, as negotiations with MSNBC have fallen through. At least she'll always have her blog. - AP
Sales estimates of Jay-Z's latest album, American Gangster, project that the rapper with have his tenth #1 album next week. That probably means we'll be seeing an eleventh. - Reuters
Rumored couple Ashley Olsen and Lance Armstrong apparently checked into NYC's SoHo House last weekend, although they booked separate rooms. Sounds like it was a pretty, wait for it, Full House. - Us Weekly
Alec Baldwin has attracted attention for another set of rude comments that he directed towards his own NYC neighborhood, the Upper West Side, which he called dirty and crowded by too many midpriced restaurants. John, Mariah and Bill Save the Music

VH1's Save The Music rocked NYC last night at a gala in honor of the organization's 10th Anniversary. Musicians such as (a suuuuuper bronzed) John Mayer and Bon Jovi performed on stage with a 60 piece orchestra comprised of STM students from all over the country. Tim Gunn held a charity auction while Conan O'Brien hosted the event. Bill Clinton was there as a stand in for his presidential hopeful wife, who was honored at the event. As was Mariah Carey, who showed off her curves, shared some bleak diet tips and gushed about Save The Music. She said, "This is a wonderful organization. I don't talk about it much, but I didn't have an easy childhood and music literally saved my life." Quite the event for a great cause.
