The SATC2 Girls Bring Their Sparkle to Japan

Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, Kristin Davis, and Kim Cattrall brought the decadence of SATC2 to Japan over the weekend, starting with a Monday photo call before today's premiere. SJP arrived sporting her chic NYC style and quickly morphed back into Carrie joining Samantha, Charlotte, and Miranda for all the events. SJP skipped the dramatic headwear instead wowing the crowd with all those diamonds. Cynthia kept it simple in black at both events, and Kim shimmered in shades of gold. Kristin was a knockout in red yesterday and kept things fun and flirty today in another knee length gown. The fab four put up a strong fight at the box office but ended up coming in third behind Prince of Persia and Shrek Forever After. Did You Catch Sex and the City 2?

After all the excitement, all the build-up, the highly anticipated Sex and the City 2 debuted on Thursday. I'll allow BuzzSugar to size up the plot but the wardrobe was beyond fantastical. Carrie even made a record-breaking number of outfit changes: 48! Did you catch the the flick yet? What did you think?

Which Hairstyle Do You Prefer on Cynthia Nixon?

Over the course of just four days, Sex and the City 2 star Cynthia Nixon has worn her normally cropped hair three different lengths. At the beginning of the week at the film's NYC premiere, the actress walked the red carpet with much lighter strawberry blond strands and a slightly longer shoulder-length hairdo. She was spotted the next day wearing her signature wavy chin-length bob, and then later in the week, she showed up with past-the-shoulder extensions. It's fun to see the typically short-haired Cynthia change up her look, but if you had to choose your favorite length, what would it be: shorter, longer, or something in between?

Sex and the City 2: See It For the Sparkle

The core of the Sex and the City TV series is its depiction of four Manhattanites and their bond. Over the course of the six seasons, we grow to know Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), Charlotte (Kristin Davis), and Samantha (Kim Cattrall), to empathize with their man troubles, cheer for their career successes, and live vicariously through their regular weekend brunch dates.

In Sex and the City 2 we're right back to their friendships, even more so than the first movie. Indeed, most of the sequel - all two and a half hours of it - is about the four of them together on a girls' weekend in Abu Dhabi, which means less of a focus on Big (Chris Noth) or Steve (David Eigenberg), and the return of Samantha in her full promiscuous glory. Hooray!

The downside: while we focus more on the ladies, they sometimes prove to be very frustrating. To see what I mean

Each woman has her share of problems in the sequel: Carrie and Big have hit a slump, Charlotte feels threatened by her girls' nanny, Samantha is battling menopause, and Miranda can't win over a sexist law firm partner. We're so invested in these characters that it's usually easy to empathize with their dilemmas, but it's harder this time. Their insecurities come under scrutiny after the topic of marriage causes tension between Charlotte and Carrie. Their interplay makes you want to shake them both, and dare I say, makes them unlikeable - although admittedly more realistic as women. What's not so realistic: their expense accounts and enough costume changes to make your head spin. Our fab four seems more spoiled than ever. That's the thing about Sex and the City 2: it has a difficult time striking a balance. On the one hand, you have a story about female relationships, but that often gets overshadowed by flash. Don't get me wrong - I love the flash - but my favorite parts of the film are when the women support one another. And while the film is always willing to make fun of itself (an amazing cameo from Liza Minnelli is perhaps the best example), the ladies' signature puns often feel like they're trying too hard this time around. The movie's portrayal of Muslims in Abu Dhabi may also raise a few eyebrows. It makes a valiant effort to try to comment on the gender roles in the culture, but sometimes it feels like it's mocking it instead. Now, this is all from a critical eye. If you go into the movie to really pick it apart, then you'll see my concerns. But if you're just a die-hard SATC fan, you're sure to coo over the clothes and cackle at the multiple boner jokes. Heck, I even got teary not once, but twice! If you choose to check it out, leave your microscope at home, and see it the way it's intended: with a mind for lighthearted fun, and of course, with your best girlfriends in tow.

The famous foursome of Sex and the City 2 traded in their red carpet gowns for another set of dresses to attend last night's premiere afterparty at Odeon. Sarah Jessica Parker also took a rest from supporting her dramatic Philip Treacy headpiece that had everyone talking. Her gorgeous blue Halston for the post-screening bash was a beautiful splash of color while Kristin Davis, Kim Cattrall, and Cynthia Nixon all changed into something shorter - who is your best dressed this time? Chris Noth stuck to his dapper Mr. Big style throughout the soiree. Emma Roberts stayed out late and also has her own movie news to celebrate - she's signed on to be the lead in Scream 4!
