Pilot Scoop: Body of Proof

More Fall TV coming at you! I know it's difficult to keep track of all the new shows on the horizon (download my calendar if you need some help), but the season premieres are almost here. Figure out which programs you're going to watch using my pilot scoops, and then check out my latest entry: ABC's Body of Proof.

What it's about: Dr. Megan Hunt (Dana Delaney) is a former neurosurgeon who was forced to quit her job after a serious car accident. She now serves as a medical examiner, relying on her keen observation to examine the bodies of the deceased to find out how they died. Using her talents, she teams up with detectives Bud Morris (John Carroll Lynch) and Samantha Baker (Sonja Sohn) to solve local murders, though Hunt's strong-will is a constant source of conflict.

Where it works: The show almost resembles a female version of House from the intricate medical mystery to Hunt's very House-like epiphany. It's kind of intriguing to watch it unfold, but I'm more interested in Hunt's home life. We get a quick glimpse at her inability to connect with her teenage daughter, which should eventually give her more dimension than the frosty, workaholic stereotype.

Where it doesn't: Hunt's medical conclusions often feel like a stretch, even for someone of her brilliance. The show could benefit from keeping the cases a tad simpler and really taking the time to connect the dots.

Am I hooked? I'll probably stick with House for my procedural drama fix, but Hunt could make for an interesting character once they give her more than one note to play.

When is it on? Body of Proof premieres on Friday, Sept. 24 at 9 p.m.

Cougar Town Welcomes Jennifer Aniston, Mehcad Brooks on True Blood, and Adorable Joanna Garcia at the ABC TCA Bash!

Fresh off a long day of panels, the stars of ABC and Disney kept the TCA party going last night at the Beverly Hilton. Matthew Perry cracked us up at the Q & A session, after which he mingled with Busy Philipps and his new costar Andrea Anders. Cougar Town's Josh Hopkins revealed that Jennifer Aniston will definitely be guest starring in an episode early on in season two! My Generation's Mehcad Brooks spoke at length about how much this role means to him and while he's lagged on watching, he still has lots of love for True Blood and wishes the cast the best. Joanna Garcia looked hot in her Michael Kors dress and her beautiful engagement ring completed the look - stay tuned for our exclusive interview with her! Autumn Reeser and Julie Benz were both sporting nude Brian Atwood pumps, which was Autumn's first expensive shoe purchase at her No Ordinary Family costar Julie's suggestion. The cast of Modern Family graciously accepted all the praise for their hit series as they gear up for the Emmys later this month. 2009 Primetime Emmy Awards Trend: Purple Majesty

I'm surprised purple majesty doesn't turn up on more red carpets. The color of royalty - and creativity - is both beautiful and unique. Several screen sensations decided to don my favorite color and the results were just lovely. Dana Delaney chose a beaded bodice Basil Soda Couture gown in a rich dark grape, while others flirted with higher hemlines, floral details, and plunging necklines.

Wedding Bells Are Ringing For the Desperate Housewives

The ladies of Desperate Housewives were reunited on set yesterday in LA. Marcia Cross was decked out in navy blue as prim Bree, while Eva Longoria went bright in a typical Gabi hue. Felicity Huffman chatted with her onscreen husband Doug Savant, while newcomer Drea de Matteo brought her daughter Alabama to check out the scene. Last season ended with a surprise wedding, but the bride still remains a mystery as both Teri Hatcher and Dana Delany were sporting gowns for the afternoon of filming.

Eva Longoria Supports Her Friends and Helps Fight Cancer

Eva Longoria was a busy girl, bouncing from one event to another in LA over the weekend. On Saturday she accepted a $200,000 donation from AT&T benefiting PADRES, an organization she's involved in that helps Hispanic families fighting against cancer. Yesterday she joined her Desperate Housewives costars to support Felicity Huffman's new film, Phoebe in Wonderland. Meanwhile, things are heating up for Gaby on Wisteria Lane as we get ready to see some kissing between two of the women when the show returns.

Who Was the Worst Dressed Housewife at the SAG Awards?

Desperate Housewives Rundown Episode Seven: "What More Do I Need?"

"Desire. It's an emotion designed to lead us astray." This week's episode of Desperate Housewives deals with an element that can be found in pretty much every single soapy episode: Desire. I really enjoyed this one - there was so much drama! My favorite storyline is Bree's but the twist with Lynette's son Porter is definitely the most shocking.

Susan - I really love these episodes when Susan's storyline is more or less normal-ish, when she's neither doing insanely stupid things nor is there "high drama" in her life. Susan and Jackson "start anew" with their relationship, going on a second first date, then a second second date, and so on. Susan insists that they "get to know each other" for the first three dates before having sex on the fourth. Jackson resists at first and attempts to seduce Susan (though, seriously, has anyone used that saxophoney jazz lite "sex music," as Susan puts it, since 1987 or so?), to no avail. He then discovers that his sexual frustration somehow unblocks whatever it was that was preventing him from painting artistically, and then, of course, he doesn't want to have sex. In the end, Susan sees a painting of herself and she is convinced that Jackson really does "know" her. Then she poses nude for him so he can accurately paint her hands.

Bree - Oooh, this storyline is so juicy! Bree and Orson's employee is caught stealing money from them and is fired. Soon after, Bree reads a review of her cookbook in a Christian magazine that gives her book "four halos!" and giddily she and Orson end up getting it on in the kitchen. The next day, Andrew tells them that their former employee stole the footage from the surveillance camera so they wouldn't have any evidence of him stealing the money. Problem is, that footage also includes a couple getting it on in the kitchen! But when Andrew retrieves the video and they all watch it, they learn that the couple on the tape isn't Bree and Orson - it's Katherine and Mike. Bree brings the video to Katherine and chastises her for dating Susan's ex-husband because "we're women! We don't do that to each other." But Katherine's radiantly happy face says it all - she's not giving Mike up just yet.

Gaby - Lonely old Virginia Hildebrand (Frances Conroy) continues to pursue the Solis family in this episode, having them over for an entire weekend and crawling in bed with them to watch Surf's Up ("My heavens, is that penguin surfing?!"). This scene cracked me up. Her giddy laughter is just so childlike and funny. Everything turns not-so-funny, however, when she tells Gaby she's making up a room in her home just for the girls and that she'll send a car for them anytime they want to spend time with "Grandma," as Virginia insists they call her. Finally, when Virginia shows up uninvited to Celia's birthday party so Celia can go with her to pick out an antique doll (which, I'm guessing, would have been a very creepy scene; old dolls frighten me!), Gaby yells at her to stop obsessing over her family. Hurt, Virginia calls the country club where Carlos works and claims that Carlos touched her inappropriately during a massage. My heart just breaks for Carlos these days.

Lynette - OMG, you guys, Porter's a baby daddy! OK, I just had to get that out because it's crazy! I thought Lynette's storyline was going to be sort of funny at first, when she finds out about Porter's affair with Kirby's mom. But then she slams Anne against a wall and slaps her! Not funny anymore. She demands that Porter call things off, but he doesn't want to, and he doesn't want Anne's abusive husband to find out about the affair. Then the big surprise: Anne's pregnant. In the end, we see Porter making arrangements with Anne to leave, and Porter gently thanks his mom for everything she and Tom have done for him. Isn't Porter a twin? Where is that other kid? I would be very curious to get his perspective on all this.

Edie, Dave, Mrs McCluskey - Hooray for more Lily Tomlin! As Mrs. McCluskey's sister Roberta, she does some detective work with Dave's phone records and finds out that every month he calls a psychiatrist - a psychiatrist to the criminally insane. In the end, we see the psychiatrist getting a flight to Fairview, presumably to track down Dave (or whatever his real name is).

FiFi's Fragrances Attract the PYTs

We're sad to see our favorite TV shows head to hiatus for another Summer, but luckily the stars of the small screen are still coming out to play in Hollywood. Last night Alyson Hannigan, Minka Kelly, and Taylor Momsen got dolled up for the 36th Annual FiFi Awards in NYC. The ladies helped honor the night's big winners, which included Daisy Marc Jacobs and Intimately Beckham Women. We can see that they looked gorgeous in their springtime dresses, and something tells us that the lovely ladies smelled just as sweet.

Desperate Housewives Rundown Episodes 16 & 17, "The Gun Song/Free"

Wow, that was a lot of juicy Desperate Housewives! Two hours is a ton of any show, but when it's DH, there's just so much that goes on between the revealed secrets and sentimental conversations and plot twists - phew! What a way to end the season though, eh? I enjoyed most of the two hours but those final few moments when we glimpse the future. . . wow. I loved that.

I was totally satisfied with this season finale, as it was like classic DH (drama, humor, violence, redemption, hope, etc.) with a little something new tossed in (flash-forward). Yeah, it's not totally original (hello, Lost) but I think it spiced things up a bit and definitely got people talking! To check out more about this week's DH finale,

Susan - It often seems like all of Susan's issues could be resolved by utilizing some basic communication skills. The whole name-changing thing simply wasn't that interesting, especially when after all that, she and Mike just talk it out and they name him Maynerd anyway. We could have skipped that whole balloons debacle, etc. Ditto for the Julie storyline which seemed like filler and a way to show that Julie was about to leave the nest. Anyway, the really good stuff with Susan came in the last few seconds of the show! Where's Mike?! Who's that guy kissing Susan? And I really wanted to see her little boy, now five years old. Is Maynerd with Mike now? So many questions!

Bree - Orson's protectiveness and stalking tendencies are annoying to Bree - until he saves the day a couple times. First he prevents (er, he tries to prevent) the creepy reverend from calling Bree a temptress in front of the entire congregation after she refuses his advances. And though the two men get into a physical fight (which Orson ultimately loses) and broadcast their entire argument over the church's PA system, it's the thought that counts! Later, Bree tries to get the melting ice cherub to the commitment ceremony she's trying to pull off singlehandedly by pushing the cherub in a stroller when her car breaks down. Luckily, Orson drives up and helps her back to Wisteria Lane. As for the flash-forward, Bree appears to be a wildly successful event planner (with Andrew as her fabulous - and dapper! - assistant) who happily goes up to take a bath with her man Orson. I am curious, again, about the little one in that family, too. I wonder if Benjamin is still living with them at that point? Or maybe he's with Danielle. . .
Gaby - Similar to Susan's story, I kinda didn't care about Gaby's - until the flash-forward! However, I found the Ellie storyline heartbreaking. Hers is one of the great tragedies of the finale, as she opens up to Gaby about her upbringing and Gaby tries to help Ellie (who is still a drug dealer) make a getaway from the police. Yet when Ellie asks Gaby to bring her a teddy bear she left in her closet, Gaby discovers over $100,000 cash inside the teddy bear. Angered, Ellie returns to Gaby and Carlos' house and fights Gaby for the money before running away, slipping into Katherine's house and getting shot by Wayne. Sad. Now for that glimpse of the future: gone are the cute, tight-fitting outfits of Gaby Solis! She looks tired and frumpy as she plays poker with her friends and then goes home to her two little kids. Crazy! Also, that first kid looks old enough that we'll probably have to see a pregnancy next season (unless she adopts the girls).

Lynette - Hooray for getting rid of Kayla! I know it's mean, and maybe I should have been moved by her tears and and her "I'm sorry, Daddy" pleas. But I wasn't. She's a terror child. And I was proud of Tom for finally growing a pair and doing that whole phone trick thing, leaving the phone on while he talked to Kayla so the psychiatrist could hear her incriminating words. Actually, I cheered during that scene. But that was pretty much the only time I've liked Tom this whole season, and it passed quickly as he continued to seem so angry at Lynette when it's his psycho kid who was the problem. His little speech to the soon-to-be grooms Bob and Lee was endearing enough, though. And it's good he feels that way about Lynette because they have some challenges to face in the future with their delinquent young sons!

Katherine - Holy cow. We always knew that Wayne used to abuse Katherine terribly, but now we also see that she was helpless to stop him, protected as he was by his fellow police officers. Her poor little girl died accidentally but because she thought she'd be suspected of murdering the original Dylan, she and her aunt buried her in the woods and then went to the Ukraine for a new replacement Dylan. Sure, OK. It's DH, I can go with it. I really liked seeing Mary Alice (our dead narrator, played by Brenda Strong) in Katherine's flashback. So, the deranged (and I have to say, totally terrifying) Wayne beats Adam to a pulp (seriously, was his face not totally disgusting?) trying to find out where his real daughter is before taking Katherine - and then Bree - hostage. But Adam busts in and saves the day just in time. Katherine, holding Wayne at gunpoint, realizes that Wayne is too well-connected in the police force to ever truly pay for his crimes, so she shoots him. It's really one of the most touching things ever to see the women each contribute to the police report so that Katherine is saved from being incriminated in Wayne's death. I'll admit it, I got a little choked up. And then the future Katherine gets a little choked up - at the news that Dylan has gotten engaged in Paris. Aww!

Wow wow wow. So much to talk about! What do you think about the two-hour season finale? Did you miss Edie at all? And I really liked the flash-forwards, but I know many of you did not. Discuss!

Eva Has Plenty of Besos To Go Around

Even though Tony couldn't be there, Eva Longoria Parker had plenty of love from her friends last night at the launch party for her new restaurant Beso in LA. Some of Wisteria Lane's finest Desperate Housewives came out to celebrate, and Bella wants to know how you feel about Nicollette Sheridan's red lipstick. Eva was looking very smiley in her summery white dress, but she did admit that she wasn't feeling one hundred percent calm, saying,

"Everything is painted, every candle is lit, every glass has arrived. So we’re not like, 'The chairs are not in!' So far there has not been a catastrophic emergency happening. So I am very excited. I'm a little nervous too. But at least I don’t have to cook."

Even if Eva had to handle the kitchen, she's never been shy about discussing her cooking skills. Speaking of which, Yum's got the recipe for Eva's tortilla soup so you can have a little Eva in your kitchen even if you can't make it to Beso just yet.
