Penelope Prefers to Chat About Embraces Not Engagements

Penelope Cruz was busy in NYC yesterday, first making a stop by The Late Show to chat with David Letterman. She was out to discuss Broken Embraces before it opens in limited theaters this Friday, but Dave was a little more concerned with asking about her rumored engagement to Javier Bardem. She stood her ground and didn't reveal anything about her personal life - check out the video of her interview after the jump. Penelope wrapped things up with Dave and changed into an all-white outfit to attend a Cinema Society screening of her film. Her Nine costars Fergie and Daniel Day-Lewis were there to lend their support as the tight-knit cast continues to support each other's side projects.

Fergie, Nicole, Penelope, Marion, and Kate Are Five of the Nine

The many stars of Nine reunited in NYC today as they gear up to launch a press blitz before their film hits theaters on Dec. 18. Penelope Cruz and Marion Cotillard were spotted heading out of their hotel solo, just a few days after posing together at the weekend premiere of The Private Lives of Pippa Lee. Nicole Kidman traveled to the Big Apple after a recent trip with Keith to Nashville, the place she says they love raising daughter Sunday. Fergie, meanwhile, was fresh off her appearance on Saturday Night Live with the Black Eyed Peas and a date night with her husband Josh, though he's already out on Long Island working on The Romantics with Katie Holmes. Kate Hudson also stepped out into the sunshine this afternoon, as she gets ready to switch gears from supportive girlfriend to leading lady.

Blake and Robin Have the Stars of Nine Supporting Pippa Lee

The leading ladies of The Private Lives of Pippa Lee hit the red carpet in NYC on Saturday evening. Blake Lively didn't address rumors she's going into business with Victoria Beckham as she smiled for the cameras, while her boyfriend Penn Badgley mingled with fellow Gossip Girl actor Chace Crawford behind the scenes. Robin Wright Penn, meanwhile, showed off her new dark hairdo as she posed alongside Julianne Moore and Keanu Reeves. The film's writer and director, Rebecca Miller, brought along her husband Daniel Day-Lewis. He, in turn, was accompanied by a few of his costars in Nine, like Penelope Cruz and Marion Cotillard. Both films hit the box office in the coming weeks, but it looks like the two casts have nothing but support for each other.

Penelope, Nicole and Daniel Are One Third of Nine

Nicole Kidman and Daniel Day-Lewis were joined on the Rome set of Nine yesterday by a fresh from London Penelope Cruz. Daniel and Nicole tried to stay warm as they filmed late into the night, though Penelope was slightly luckier to be working in the still chilly-looking afternoon. It's just the latest stop on the globe for jetsetting Penelope, though she shouldn't be expected to stay in Italy too long since the Oscars luncheon is happening on Monday in LA.

Flashbulbs Are All in a Day's Work For Nicole Kidman

Nicole Kidman joined Daniel Day-Lewis on the Rome set of Nine yesterday. He's been hard at work on the movie for a few months, but this is the first time we're seeing Nicole in character for the musical. The duo were at the famous Cinecita studios to film a scene in which they had to flee the waiting paparazzi - a scenario Nicole is pretty familiar with. Shy Nicole doesn't love all the flashbulbs in real life but she just might welcome them as part of a scene.

So Far, It Takes Two to Make Nine

The cast of Nine have been spotted around London between rehearsals for their musical movie, but we're finally getting our first peek at the cast in character. Penelope Cruz and Daniel Day-Lewis got to work yesterday in the UK, sharing a hug and showing off their period costumes. Of course, the real fun will be when we get to see some singing and dancing, but for now we're happy to get a taste of what we can expect from the star-studded film.

The Oscars Are Back but Not With a Vengeance

Last night the winners weren't shocking but the show still had a few memorable moments. First off, let's not blame Jon Stewart for the probably least watched Oscars ever. It wasn't his fault they had no time to prepare which left us watching montage after montage. The pregnancy joke was inevitable - too bad Jolie wasn't even there to accept her pseudo-award. It also wasn't Jon's fault that it took over an hour before a big actor award was handed out. When that time came, Javier took the stage with a smile. Expected winner, Daniel Day-Lewis kissed his fellow nominee George Clooney on his way up to grab his little gold man. Of the many Enchanted performances, my favorite was the adorable Kristin Chenoweth singing, "That's How You Know." One pleasant surprise was seeing Owen Wilson presenting Best Live Action Short. We're also very happy to see Juno win something! Congrats Diablo Cody!

Do you like looking at handsome actors in pretty suits? Then last night's Oscars must be right up your alley! Yes, it's true, the men for the most part played it safe but there's no way to complain about seeing the likes of Clooney and Dempsey at their most dapper. Yum. Javier Bardem didn't walk with his girlfriend Penelope Cruz, but he looked confident on his way in to win his little gold man. Check out all the winners here! Johnny Depp is always a favorite so he could have shown up in jeans - no complaints. Sure, they may not be as colorful or exciting (or red!) as all the ladies red carpet looks, but with all these men there's gotta be a little manjoyment for everyone here.
