Darren Star Brings Call Girl Show to HBO

HBO is getting sexy again.
Sex and the City creator Darren Star is bringing sexy back to the network with a new series called Diary of a Manhattan Call Girl, based on columnist Tracy Quan's semi-autobiographical novel.

Say what?
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the ensemble comedy "takes a look at how power, sex and money collide through the eyes of a group of Manhattan's highest-paid escorts forced to juggle their johns, jobs and relationships." It was originally supposed to be a feature film, but when that didn't pan out, Star took the project to the network that made SATC such a big hit. Says Star: "These women are not at all ashamed or stigmatized by what they do. In fact, there is something aspirational about it."

Sounds right up Star's alley.
It includes a trio of his favorite concepts: 1) women who 2) write 3) about sex.

That's not all Star's doing.
In addition to this show, he's also producing Cashmere Mafia, as well as the ABC comedy pilot Literary Superstar (yes, yet more women who write!) starring Jenna Elfman.

Last week we gave you the inside scoop on the wardrobe of one of the most highly anticipated new shoes, I mean shows, well this show will probably contain some amazing shoes, anyway, Cashmere Mafia. For us fashion devotees, this new show, about four high-powered women in NYC, gets my blood churning simply because of the supposed amazing wardrobe to be created by Patricia Field. The show that is being dubbed the next Sex and the City shows some promise. From this preview, you can tell the show has substance, following the lives of four successful business women, style, take a look at Lucy's tailored suiting, and sass, get a load of the redhead (played by Miranda Otto)! Though the four women sitting around the resto table taking turns dishing is a bit too SATC close for comfort, I won't hold that against them. Cashmere Mafia Has Nothing to do with Sweater Sets!

At ABC's TCAs Sex and the City creator Darren Star was asked the obvious over and over again. His new show includes Miranda Otto, Frances O'Connor, Bonnie Somerville and Lucy Liu as his new dream foursome in the mid season guilty pleasure, Cashmere Mafia. Yes, the cast has four beautiful women living in NYC but he promises this show is different than that Sex show we all can't stop talking about. He also addressed the movie rumors (sort of) and how this show is a lot like that other one called Lipstick Jungle based on the book by his good friend who also wrote SATC. Here are highlights:

Difference between CM and SATC:
"This is a show that examines women from the point of view of women in business and the particular challenges they face as career women. SATC is a comedy about sex.... the shows are looking at women from two different points of view."
When asked for any teasers about the SATC movie Darren joked:
"It features four women." He then went on to only say, that there is a script and it's in the form of pre-production so at least that is more evidence that the movie is on its way to being made.
On NBC's Lipstick Jungle:
"I'm a dear friend of Candace and I read "Lipstick Jungle" which I think is a terrific book, and at the time we were talking about it, I did not end up producing "Lipstick Jungle" and it sort of went on its merry way for a couple of years. And then this idea came to Kevin and I through Gail and ABC and I thought absolutely. I'm still very energized creatively by this arena. And the idea that there can be two shows about "Saturday Night Live" on one network, to say that there can't be more than one show about working women is ridiculous because there is so much material there."

What else do we have to look forward to? How about the adorable Lucy Liu being dressed by Patricia Field! It's hard to not make the comparisons to SJP but based on how they talked about how the designer works on the set we can expect lots of exciting new outfits. Emma Stone wore striped Luca Luca to join fellow Hollywood starlets like Jessica Alba, Amber Heard, Rashida Jones, and Katie Holmes for Giorgio Armani and Vanity Fair's private dinner in LA last night. Super stylist Rachel Zoe was decked out in black to pose before the exclusive meal. It was Katie's latest outing with the brand after attending many of its shows over the years. Katie Holmes's wedding dress was even Armani! There were plenty of men represented, too: Adam Brody dressed up for the event as did Josh Hartnett, Aaron Eckhart, newly single James Marsden, and Darren Criss. It was a date night for Mark Wahlberg and Rhea Durham as well as J. Edgar star Armie Hammer and his wife Elizabeth Chambers. Emma attended after a long day on the set of The Gangster Squard with her two-time costar Ryan Gosling - the duo also acted together in Crazy Stupid Love. Katie Holmes, meanwhile, has been hanging out on the West Coast and shopping with her daughter, Suri Cruise, following their weekend visit to Tom Cruise on the Pittsburgh production site of One Shot. The debut of Katie's next acting gig is coming up, too, when the Halloween episode of How I Met You Mother, in which she plays the infamous "slutty pumpkin," finally airs.

6 Things We Already Know About Glee Season Three

When Glee comes back tonight with its third season premiere, some faces will be absent from the halls of McKinley High, and others will be planning their post-graduation exit. We know a few more details from season three, so read up and you'll know what to expect when the series returns. As an added bonus, we have a few new photos from the show to share as well!

Sam is out. After Chord Overstreet's role as Sam was scaled back to guest star, the actor declined to come back at all. At least we'll be seeing more of Blaine and Mike, because Darren Criss and Harry Shum Jr. were promoted to series regulars (and we'll also get to meet Mike's parents).
Mercedes will get a boyfriend. Since Sam is out, the secret relationship between him and Mercedes we saw in the season finale is over too. But she won't be sad and single: Friday Night Lights alum LaMarcus Tinker has been cast as Mercedes's new boyfriend.
The Cheerios are getting some old members back. Even though Quinn, Brittany, and Santana quit the Cheerios in defiance of Sue in season two, we can see by Santana and Brittany's yearbook photos that those two are back in their uniforms. The same can't be said for Quinn, who looks like she may be more into rebellion this year.
Some of the glee club is graduating. Ryan Murphy confirmed that some students, namely Rachel, Finn, and Kurt, will be graduating at the end of this year - and Lea Michele, Cory Monteith and Chris Colfer will be be moving on for good. Season three, he said, will focus on planning what they'll be doing after high school.
It'll be lighter on the guest stars. Despite the splash that Gwyneth Paltrow, Britney Spears, and other bold-faced names made in season two, Murphy said that there won't be as many guest stars in season three. I guess Anne Hathaway will have to put her dreams of Glee guest stardom on hold.
Will and Emma are heating up again. Emma's out from under her divorce, so it looks like she and Will are ready to give it another shot in this promo, where they're puckering up. Will they actually last for more than a few episodes this time around?

Goldie Hawn Returns to Acting For The Viagra Diaries

Move over Kate Hudson, because your mom is about to step back into the spotlight. Goldie Hawn is set to star in The Viagra Diaries, a new half-hour comedy for HBO. Sex and the City mastermind Darren Star is writing the script, which is based on the book by Barbara Rose Brooker. Hawn will star as a 65-year-old woman plummeted into singledom when her husband ups and leaves her. Believe it or not, this is Hawn's first role since The Banger Sisters (2002), but she seems like a perfect fit for this part (and as a devoted fan of movies like Overboard and The First Wives' Club, I'm welcoming her back with open arms). Are you excited to see Goldie back in action?
