Oct 6 2009 - 12:00pm There's been a media frenzy since David Letterman confession last week that he's had multiple affairs with his staffers and was involved in an alleged extortion plot against him. Last night after Dave publicly apologized to his wife, Craig Ferguson addressed the news on The Late Late Show, joking that it's awkward for him to see his boss, who he admires, being caught in an "embarrassing situation." Stars like Chris Rock and Barbara Walters have been speaking out in Dave's defense and when the news broke most of you weren't even surprised.
I don't have an opinion on him one way or the other, but why is this such big news? Half the time its been the lead story on cnn.com. I just don't understand why everyone cares so much.
not really. i think that in the grand scheme of things - what he did is no worse than what so many others have done - and it's his private life. i think that if people want to think that he's
any worse than he is - then that's their choice, but his relationships with co-workers and his wife are his own business
Lickety -- Actually, neither of them were single. He was in a longterm, live-in relationship with the woman who is now his wife and mother of his child. She was in a relationship with the guy
who tried to do the extorting.
But more than that, it's just sleazy and probably an abuse of power when a boss sleeps with a bunch of women who work for him.
# 6 is right but I never really cared about David Letterman or his show so it doesn't matter to me. Feel bad for his wife though and for the rest of us who are going to have to hear or read
about it for awhile. This thing is going to trial so be prepare to hear more about David Letterman
Letterman is such a creep. I dont even know why he has his own show he is not funny at all.
Besides that it is just plain wrong to sleep with your employees. Imagine how people feel now looking back wondering how that chick or this chick got that promotion and how they didnt.
Why is there never a third option? I haven't thought letterman was funny since the late 80's, I've heard he's an arrogant a s s, is contemptuous of other peoples feelings and beliefs, treats
his girlfriend/wife horribly, and ditto for anyone he doesn't admire. I've heard these things about him repeatedly over the years, from former employees, people in the ent. industry, and
people who have come across him in other ways.
I never liked him, personally. Anyway, I think the only people to judge should be his family, and I feel very upset for his now-wife, that he has been with for years upon years. Cheating is
not unheard of, and not big news IMO, but it's disappointing to hear of people who throw their relationships out the window to screw the pretty young thing, or whatever the case may be.
I think it's strange so many people don't care that he was cheating on the mother of his child and long term partner but they are so upset at Sienna Miller/Jolie. So really it's ok to cheat
as long as your the man doing it?
I don't watch his show so I didn't really have a view of him to change.
What could change is that when he makes fun of politicians and celebrities who had some sexual indiscretions, it wouldn't be funny any more. For a long time nobody knew that he was one of the
frontrunners of those he had joked about. It's called hypocrisy.
i dont care every one makes a mistakes, even though letterman is funny and this lets him get away with it, he's got charm but everyone knows he can be a dbag sometimes.
It is just interesting how someone who pokes fun at other people's private lives is now mud deep in a "scandal" himself. I do feel for his wife, especially since it is being so played out in
the media.
@Nadia - your comment is pretty shocking. Is it really that hard to see why people would look down on someone committing adultery and abusing their position of power as an employee?
I never like Dave in the first place though so I'm really shocked. I don't know how he keeps his job as a 'comedian' - he's not funny at all.
He is pompous and sometimes rude to his guests. I don't believe in making jokes at someone's expense right in front of them. He doesn't treat people with respect. Remember the Paris Hilton
debacle? As much as we dislike her, she is still a person and he brought her to tears. So actually, I am not surprised at all to hear about his behind-the-scenes issues.

How was it "an affair". They were both single, no?
1Office 'affairs' are so mainstream, come on! Let's get over it.
2Older men get away with everything!

8I still think he's funny as hell. If you are shocked that he was having sex, I'm not going to tell you where babies come from!
