American Idol Top 12 - Beatles Night

Last night kicked off the Top 12 men and women performing together and they sang Beatles songs! Too bad a lot of them butchered the beautiful tunes. My favorites this week were Brooke, David Cook and top spot goes to Chikezie. Since they all have been faves of mine since early on I won't bore you with rave reviews.

Carly was also entertaining and Jason, Michael and Syesha were good as well. As for the stinkers, Kristy Lee looked smoking hot but that country song on speed was beyond terrible. David Hernandez sounded and looked cheesy and like Simon said, "desperate." Amanda still bugs (sorry all you fans) and Ramiele was a disappointing blah. David Archuleta hasn't had a bad night yet but forgetting the lyrics should be an automatic elimination at this point. Bottom line, the bottom three will be David Hernandez, Kristy Lee Cook and probably Syesha but my bet is David's getting the boot. American Idol Top 8 Men

Finally a men's show that really entertained! It started a little slow (bye bye Luke) but cutie Danny Archuleta showed off his voice again, and the show picked up. Here's what else I loved about last night:

Danny Noriega, what can I say? I love the sass.

David "Stripper" Hernandez - Celine Dion, really? Yes, I know Meatloaf also sang it, but all I saw was Celine (bye bye boy).

Michael Johns, the Jim Morrison wannabe, was an early favorite, but as expected, he's starting to fall behind as the others improve. Luckily he sang the song from The Breakfast Club, so of course we loved it.

David Cook - minus the hair - wow! Love the Lionel and so happy Simon liked it too! Not sure we needed to know they were just at Whole Foods this weekend buying carrots, but whatever.

Jason Castro - winner of the night! That song is insane, and he nailed it. All I could think about was my beloved OC and Seth and Summer and of course Marissa's death and that season one finale. Yes, loser = me, and Jason = awesome.

Finally, Chikezie didn't deserve the last spot, but I think he was still strong enough to secure a spot for next week.

I'm so glad we filtered through the untalented to get to this point. Next week will be even better when hopefully Luke and David are gone.

American Idol Top 8 Women

The ladies were not as thrilling as the men, but there were still plenty of pretty faces to look at and voices to hear. Besides, crazy Paula knew to up the ante last night to fill in the gap of boringness.

I expected more bad Whitney Houston imitations, but we only had one and of course it was the opening number. Asia'h was OK, but I think she is in trouble along with the performer who followed her, Kady.
As much as I want Amanda gone, figures Simon raved about her, so she should secure that top 12 position.
Kristy Lee did not do Journey justice, and Carly was just a solid good, while Ramiele was better but I was more focused on her glossy lips than anything else.
Brooke was loved again this week, although it was not my favorite performance of hers.
Syesha was an excellent closing number. She had a great look, voice, and energy to end the show on a high note.

Tonight, I am thinking bye bye Luke and David Hernandez, but since none of the ladies were standouts I will have to go with Asia'h and Kady. I hope Amanda takes her place, which is unlikely since she definitely has a lot of fans, including Simon. These days, it's not American Idol without old scandals about the contestants becoming public. This season, we've already heard about Amanda Overmyer and her DUI, and today we got a peek into David Hernandez's past life as a stripper. To top it all off, everyone's talking about this video of Danny Noriega's foul language and teenage angst. Do you think all of the dirt from the past hurts Idol contestants?

ABC Upfronts

Grey's Anatomy is doing so well for ABC that they are moving the show to Thursday nights in the fall. We enjoyed the finale although nothing really surprised us about the ending. Also, as an FYI, Chris O'Donnell is returning to the show in the fall but we're not sure how long. What does this mean? It looks like the love triangle will continue between McDreamy, Meredith and Finn.

ABC was one of the first to allow episodes to be purchased online which is brilliant. Now they are working on a way to solve the repeat issue. Now onto the new fall schedule. So what is taking Grey's Sunday night slot? How about the new Calista Flockhart, Balthazar Getty, Rachel Griffiths promising new drama called Brothers and Sisters. Also looking very interesting is the Thursday night show post-Grey's show called Six Degrees which is produced by JJ Abrams. Stay tuned for reviews later this summer as we gear up for the new season.

SIX DEGREES
Six strangers living in New York City become friends after eventually meeting again through a mysterious web of happenstance and coincidence. The cast includes Erika Christensen, Hope Davis, Jay Hernandez, Dorian Missick, Bridget Moynihan, and Campbell Scott. Lost and Alias creator J.J. Abrams in an executive producer.

TRAVELER (midseason)

IN CASE OF EMERGENCY (midseason)
Four friends in theirs 30s, who have not seen each other since their high school days, are reunited for different reasons in a hospital emergency room. The cast includes former Full House/Summerland star Lori Loughlin, Jonathon Silverman, David Arquette, Greg Germann, Kelly Hu, and Nicholas Roget-King.

LET'S ROB
In the wake of a co-worker's death, an aging janitor (Donal Logue) recruits a group of misfits for a heist to finance his dreams of opening a bar. The cast also includes Josh Grisetti, Maz Jobrani, Koji Kataoka, Kevin Michael Richardson, Lenny Venito, and Sofia Vergara. Mick Jagger guest stars in the pilot.

NOTES FROM THE UNDERBELLY
