Grown Ups: Still Has Some Maturing to Do

Adam Sandler has made a career out of playing juvenile men. In Grown Ups, he may be older and wiser, but he's still the same old guy who laughs at fart jokes.

Sandler recruits his closest friends for this slapstick version of The Big Chill. Kevin James is the overweight one, David Spade is the lothario, Rob Schneider is the hippie-dippy guy, and Chris Rock is the somewhat effeminate member of the bunch. Indeed, Rock's casting is the only somewhat surprising thing about this movie that's chock-full of pratfalls, hot girls in short-shorts, and never-ending barbs. The boys love to make fun of each other, but unfortunately, their swipes are the meat of this movie. To hear more of what I mean,

The actors play a group of childhood friends who reunite for the funeral of their grade-school basketball coach. With children and wives in tow, they spend the weekend in a cabin to reconnect - with each other and with their families. It's actually a very well-meaning, sweet message for a film that also tries to get its laughs from squirting breast milk. It's a contradiction that Sandler seems to struggle with: this moral of family togetherness in the midst of crude, gross-out humor. I'd actually argue that many of the jokes aren't as kid-friendly as the trailer might have you believe. What's worse, they're just not that funny.

Where the movie does earn its cred is in its cameos. Sandler brings in all of the old gang - Colin Quinn, Steve Buscemi, and Tim Meadows play members of a rival basketball team, while Norm Macdonald's butt makes a quick appearance. If you've been following Sandler's films from the beginning, then you're sure to smile at the dose of nostalgia. Salma Hayek, Maria Bello, and Maya Rudolph also get in on the act as the mens' better halves, but their moments are few. Let's face it, this film is about the boys, and Sandler and Co. are having the time of their lives. Sandler rips on James's weight, Rock calls Sandler "Mr. Hollywood," and they all take jabs at Schneider. It's seems like a fun ride for this group of real-life friends - it's just a shame it's not a better time for the audience.

Salma Leads a Cast of Grown Ups at Her Big NYC Premiere

Adam Sandler got his Grown Ups costars together in NYC last night for their premiere. David Spade, Kevin James, and Chris Rock stuck by Adam on the red carpet, and Chris later remarked, "We're like the ladies from Sex and the City!" The event also brought out a slew of reality stars, from Real Housewives to J Woww and Snooki from the Jersey Shore. J Woww is excited for the upcoming release of Eclipse - she told us that she's actually Team Edward, because she's "always liked vampires." The girls also teamed up with their male counterparts to film a Twilight spoof for Jimmy Kimmel. Salma Hayek, though, stole the show in her little white dress after breaking out black and purple for press appearances earlier in the week. David shared a sweet story about his meeting Salma's daughter Valentina - check out our exclusive video from the scene!

George, Leonardo, and Ben Celebrate Men With Gorgeous Girls at Guys Choice

It was a rowdy and A-list crowd at last night's Spike TV Guys Choice Awards in LA. Sandra Bullock's surprise appearance to accept the Troops Choice honors was one of the show's highlights - watch her speech below - but there were more than a few other famous faces there to join in the party. George Clooney followed in Brad Pitt's footsteps accepting his golden antlers while Charlize Theron was this year's Decade of Hotness winner after Halle Berry in 2009. Leonardo DiCaprio and Ben Affleck also added new statues to their collections during the testosterone-fueled event. Of course, there had to be some beautiful women added into the mix and Scarlett Johansson and Jessica Biel fit the bill perfectly.

Brooklyn Decker is becoming quite the movie star herself and was still sporting that Hawaii tan after shooting Just Go With It with Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler. George caught up with Kid Rock backstage where Jon Hamm posed with the A-Team's Bradley Cooper. The show, which airs June 20 on Spike TV, is usually a pretty raucous event and it looks like everyone had a great time. We'll be seeing a few of these faces again this evening at the MTV Movie Awards so stay tuned for our live coverage!
