Celebrities That Cook: Love Them or Hate Them?

Debi Mazar. Sheryl Crow. Eva Longoria. Gwyneth Paltrow. What do these actresses have in common? They're crossing over from movies, television, and music to food. Mazar's got a show on the Cooking Channel and Crow, Longoria, and Paltrow have all come out with cookbooks in the past couple of weeks. Why are these actresses hungry to show off their skills at the chopping block? According to the Wall Street Journal it's because cooking gives the aging Hollywood female a second act. They cite Rachael Ray as an example stating that her "earning power or star wattage" won't decline just because she's getting older - which is what generally happens to leading ladies in the film and small screen industry. Still, one can't help but wonder, can they and do they actually cook? I've yet to try any of the stars' recipes, but am curious about Paltrow and Longoria's books. I'm hoping to check them out soon. What do you think of actresses that turn into culinary personalities?

Gwen Stefani and Red-Headed Drew Barrymore Hit the MOCA For a Night of Street Art

It was a star-studded evening at the MOCA in LA last night, as Gwen Stefani, Gavin Rossdale, and more attended the opening of the Art in the Streets, the first major retrospective of graffiti art in the US. Gwen and Gavin are longtime supporters of the museum and its director, Jeffrey Deitch, after stepping out for another event there last Fall. Drew Barrymore and her red hair also made a cameo after she debuted the new hue Wednesday night at a book party. Other celebs like Adrian Grenier, pregnant Pink, and Christina Ricci were on hand to toast icons like Shepard Fairey and Thierry Guetta, the star of last year's documentary Exit Through the Gift Shop. Shepard and Thierry's work is represented there along with pieces by Banksy.

Mark Wahlberg Toasts Entourage's Seventh Successful Season

The boys of Entourage got together last night to premiere their seventh season in LA. Adrian Grenier posed with the rest of the crew Kevin Connolly, Kevin Dillon, and Jerry Ferrara, while Jeremy Piven faithfully tweeted from red carpet. The series's producer, Mark Wahlberg, left the kids at home to enjoy a night out with his wife Rhea Durham and support his beloved Boston Celtics who are taking on the LA Lakers in game seven of the NBA finals tonight. There's lots to come on the show this year judging from the emotion-wrought trailer, including the anticipated romance between Kevin and Emmanuelle Chriqui's characters. Emmanuelle stuck with the girls, including Perrey Reeves and Carla Gugino. Adrian and Kevin spent a few hours earlier in the day working on their new episodes, which we'll get to see starting June 27.

Kate, Nicole and Eva Share the Spotlight With CNN's Heroes

Anderson Cooper was the man of the evening on Saturday as he hosted the annual CNN Heroes Awards. The ceremony honored ten individuals who go above and beyond with their contribution to the world, and each was introduced to the crowd by a celebrity guest. Nicole Kidman, Kate Hudson, and Eva Mendes were a few of the ladies on hand to do the honors, while Carrie Underwood performed. The evening's biggest award, CNN's Hero of the Year, went to Efren Peñaflorida because of his efforts to bring education to underprivileged children in the Philippines. Kate and Nicole took the evening off from promoting Nine, though they were both out again last night for the American Music Awards. The ladies were joined by other actors like Neil Patrick Harris and Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and we'll be able to see the whole show when it airs Thanksgiving evening.

Debi Mazar Is Movin' Her Entourage

Although Entourage is back for another season, in real life, Vince's publicist Debi Mazar and her own entourage are on the move. The actress has listed her family's 2,096-square-foot, three-bedroom, two-bath 1930s Spanish-style hacienda in Los Angeles for $1.4 million. The property has a lush, gated front garden and a grassy back garden that make an ideal place for her 3- and 7-year-old daughters. Architecturally, it boasts original wood floor inlays and tiles, beautiful ornate moldings and ceiling beams. Mazar's indulgent custom shoe closet, which stores over 100 shoes, is a woman's dream come true.

As for the décor, I'm impressed. She's curated a funky mix of mid-century and Art Deco that shows a lot of personality. She could have used some help piecing it all together, but I'd say she's made great investments in furniture. I've got no word on where Mazar and her family are headed next, but she does balance her time in LA with time spent in her 14-century house outside of Florence. Mandy Doesn't Need Any More Wishes to Be Happy

Mandy Moore stood out against a sea of black and white with her red dress and bright smile at the Latisse launch party in LA last night. Brooke Shields, Marisa Tomei, and Angie Harmon - get her look now - all came out to support the event benefiting the Make-A-Wish foundation. Unfortunately, at the party Brooke admitted Lipstick Jungle is really canceled. Meanwhile, newlywed Mandy showed off her rings and also talked about how she's "thrilled" and "very, very happy" to be married. Though she shied away from questions about Ryan Adams, he was with her in California Twittering about her sweet voice.

Will and Jada Escape to LA With Ben and Fergie

Will Smith brought his kids Jaden and Willow to support their mom Jada at the LA premiere of her Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa yesterday. The happy foursome posed for photos while Ben Stiller and his wife Christine made it a date and left their kids at home. Fergie was also on hand to walk the green carpet, though her big smile may have more to do with her wedding than the movie. Her plans are moving along and supposedly she is now working with Karl Lagerfeld to design her dream gown. She and Josh Duhamel have been engaged for a year already but they don't seem in to rushing the big day anytime soon.

The Ladies of The Women Bring Their Party to NYC

Eva Mendes took a break from all her Fashion Week duties last night to attend a screening of The Women in NYC with her costars Jada Pinkett Smith, Meg Ryan, and Debi Mazar. Unlike last week's big premiere in LA, Annette Bening and Debra Messing sat this one out, but Julia Stiles and Bette Midler stepped in. Even Mick Jagger, who is one of the film's producers, joined them for the afterparty at the Gramercy Park Hotel - though it probably wasn't hard to convince him to spend the evening surrounded by beautiful ladies. The reviews for this movie aren't exactly raves, but hopefully the all-star women cast can still bring out the audiences.

The Women: Not Fizzy, Just Empty

Philosophically, the very existence of The Women is something that makes me cheer. As its title suggests, it's a movie full of only women - and many of them "women of a certain age," at that. Director and screenwriter Diane English spent years trying to steer her remake of George Cukor's 1939 classic to the screen, and I respect and admire her determination. A powerful remake of The Women could have sent yet another signal that moviegoers want to see women on screen in all their beautiful, imperfect, daffy, lovable, clueless, fantastic glory.

On screen, though, The Women disappoints to an almost depressing degree. It's not an outright disaster; there are good moments from nearly everyone in the gigantic cast. But it's not screwball enough to honor its '30s movie heritage, not clever enough to make for a fun night out at the theater. And its own message on women is utterly conflicted, threatening to undermine the potential positive impact of bringing an all-female movie to the big screen.

Meg Ryan stars as Mary Haines, whose life comes complete with adorable daughter, fabulous luncheons, and blooming garden she planted herself. If there are cracks in that shiny veneer, she'd hardly notice; as a friend, Alex (Jada Pinkett Smith), points out, she's too busy filling them in. So it knocks her flat when she finds out - thanks to her gossipy manicurist (Debi Mazar) - that her husband is having an affair with the Saks perfume "spritzer girl" (Eva Mendes). That betrayal would be bad enough, but before long, there's another one, courtesy of her best friend Sylvie (Annette Bening), who sells out Mary to save her own floundering career. The Women does fine with that broad sketch of a plot. It's in the details that the movie loses its footing, so

read more. Some of the movie's issues lie in the direction, which isn't confident enough to pull off some of the more screwball elements. English also doesn't seem to know how to use Bette Midler, who has a brief cameo that is delightful to watch but doesn't contribute much to the story, and Debra Messing and Smith are hardly in the movie. The whole look of the film is flat - understandable given its relatively small budget, but far from engaging for a viewer. What The Women gets right is Mary's devastation at Sylvie's betrayal; losing her husband wouldn't have been so bad if the whole mess hadn't taken her friend along with it. The few scenes with the friends together are a treat, especially when they're plotting their confrontation of (and revenge against) the spritzer girl. Mendes basically just has to act hot and stupid, and she does that well. And Candice Bergen is amusing as Mary's mother, who dispenses advice that seems to be from another era. Or is it? The Women seems confused about its own thoughts on women's roles. And while I can live with the ultimate outcome of Mary's journey to find herself (though I thought it was far too easy and predictable), what I can't condone is the movie's treatment of Mary's daughter Molly, who is basically a living representation of Why Women Hate Themselves. In her first scene, she tells Mary she's on a diet because she's fat; Mary laughs it off . Over the course of the movie, she starts smoking to keep from eating, burns tampons because she hates being a girl, and laments that she doesn't understand why magazine editors like Sylvie send such mixed signals to women. Sylvie's ultimate response when confronted with all of Molly's baggage? "I'm a hypocrite. Life is complicated." That's all? At last night's premiere of The Women, the dark-haired beauty took a classic chignon and gave it a modern feel by parting her hair down the middle and pinning it back into a soft roll.
