John Continues to Share All the Details

John Mayer was proud to show off his colorful tattoo sleeve on the December cover of Details. He's out and about talking about his latest album, Battle Studies, but in typical Mayer fashion John didn't only speak about business. Just like in his recent interview with the New York Times, John quickly got candid about his personal life. Here's more:

On his relationships with Hollywood's leading ladies: "You just never know who’s going to come into your life. To my mind, the only thing sicker than saying, 'Wow, you’re a famous person and it would do a lot for my career to go out with you,' is to say, 'Wow, you’re a famous person and I like you and all, but I can’t do that to my career.' I don’t think either of those is a good option."
On his unexpected collaboration with country star Taylor Swift: "I don’t know if you know, but I’m not exactly Bob Dylan - I’m already a pop musician . . . I want to reach as many people as possible."
His music vs. his celebrity persona: "Sometimes I feel like I do two things for a living. I make records and I talk to people. The record is much, much better than any interview I can give - you’ll walk away from the record liking me a hell of a lot more than you would walking away from an interview."

Clive Owen Just Wants You to Believe Him

Clive Owen and his sexy smirk are on the cover of October's Details, as he begins promoting his latest movie, The Boys Are Back. The film centers on a sportswriter who loses his wife to cancer and has to raise his two sons on his own. Clive talked about his own childhood and mentioned he's not working on much else because he hasn't read any good scripts lately. Here's more:

On being raised by his mother and stepfather, then meeting his biological father at age 20: "It was a very, very working-class family. It was fine. It wasn't an unhappy experience - everybody struggled. . . [Meeting my father after a 17-year absence] was a very bizarre experience, looking at someone you've never known and going, 'Oh my God, that's my father.'"
On meeting his wife when he played Romeo and she was Juliet: "Yes, a cliché. I fell in love with her the minute she came in. She was late, she had these glasses and a pile of secondhand books, and there was something about her straightaway. There's no regret or resentment [now that she's given up acting to become a therapist]. She always smiles and looks at what acting can be like, and it's a relief to her that she's not doing it."
On how he wants people to think of him: "I got in a cab in Glasgow years ago, and this quite surly cabdriver says to me, 'You're that actor, aren't you? You get paid to lie, don't you? That's what actors are, aren't they? Professional bullsh*tters.' It had quite an effect on me. I f*cking get paid to lie. . . . I walked out of there and I spent a bit of time thinking about it. And then I realized I think it's the opposite: It's an opportunity to tell the truth. I try to do that in everything I do. And whether you like a movie I'm in or not, I want you to believe me. More than admire me or think I was brilliantly skillful, I want you to believe me."

Mila Kunis Doesn't Sweat the Details

Mila Kunis struck a few cutesy poses for September's Details. It's the same issue featuring Tom Brady's hot cover, and Mila sat down with the magazine for a chat about her upcoming film Extract with Jason Bateman and Ben Affleck. She also opened up about her gaming addiction, sense of humor, and truly bad interviews. Here's more:

On her addiction to World of Warcraft: "I'd be like, 'OK, are we done yet? Because I've gotta go home. Like, I really gotta go.'"
On being hard to offend: "It takes a lot to offend me. I mean, I'm sensitive to certain things. I haven't figured them out yet. But I'm sure they're there."
On bad interviews: "Yesterday, a woman asked me, ‘So! Was Ashton a prankster on set?’ I went, ‘Oh my God. For real?’ That’s when I know the interview’s going sour - when they ask me what it was like kissing Kutcher. The show’s been off the air for four years. It’s just no longer cute or funny."

Tom Gives Us the Details on Gisele and More Babies

Tom Brady and his blue eyes are on the cover of September's Details. He sat down with the magazine to chat about Gisele, saying that they were set up on blind date by a friend who said she was a "girl version" of Tom. Tom says Gisele's dog runs the household, also revealing his thoughts on kids and life in general. Here's more:

On his and Gisele's fame: "I think my wife and I, we probably enjoy staying home more than most . . . I'm glad they didn't have those camera phones seven or eight years ago [referring to his wilder single days]. When I go out now, I just watch what I'm doing."
On wanting more kids: "You march to your own beat for so long. It's like, an hour commitment used to be a big commitment, and now you chase a little boy around for eight hours a day, waiting to catch him if he falls and changing his dirty diaper. You think, How crazy is this? I want a lot of kids. I'd love four or five. We'll see. It's not always my decision."
On Bridget being pregnant while he dated Gisele: "That's not how you envisioned your life, that's not how you envisioned having children, but it happens. But you're not talking about a tragic event. You're talking about a life. It's what happens. And that's forced me to grow up in a lot of ways, and in a lot of ways I've learned about the people around me, learned about my wife and about how important she is in my life, through this. You see what she's really about. Because that's not what she wanted either. But once again, it's . . . I just don't think . . . life is not what everyone . . . Life is not living in the suburbs with a white picket fence. That's not life. Somehow our American culture has made it out that that's what life needs to be - and that if it's not that, it's all screwed up. It's not. You go through life and you try the best you can."

Mandy Feels Very Lucky and Is Ready For Something New

Mandy Moore posed seductively for the May issue of Details, which hits newsstands April 21. She's promoting her new album, Amanda Leigh and it is expected to showcase a much edgier Mandy than what we've seen before. The singer opened up in the interview about her previous musical experiences and her new husband Ryan Adams. Here are some highlights:

On her new album Amanda Leigh: "The music is all a reflection of me now, not somebody else's choices. If people don't like the music, then they don't like me-and that's quite all right."
On her pop music past, which she now calls "crappy": "I was just told to show up and what to sing. . . . That was late-nineties pop music for you. I found myself in the company of Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera, who had really quality music, much more so than mine was. I'm sure there are people scratching their heads, going 'Wow, how is she still around?'"
On her husband Ryan: "When it comes to the possibility and potential to collaborate, or to be able to run decisions or ideas by someone . . . it's nice to have that. I feel very lucky, you know?"

Sounds like Mandy is ready to dive into a new music career with the help of her husband, and hopefully she'll be happier with the outcome this time around.

Kanye Doesn't Sweat the Details as the End-All, Be-All of Music

Kanye West struck a pose for the cover of Details' March fashion issue. He's presently all about checking out the offerings at New York Fashion Week, but he sat down with the magazine recently to chat about his status in the music industry as well as his desire to redefine what calling something "gay" should mean. Here's more:

On being a great rapper: "Oh my God, I'm one of the greatest rappers in the world. I'll get on a track and completely ee-nihilate that track, I'll eat it and rip it in half. I wouldn't have to think of it."
On being the voice of his generation: "If not me, then who? Someone could be a better rapper, dance better. But culturally impacting? When you look back at these four and a half years, who's the icon at the end of the day? Who broke down color barriers? What other black guy would a white person use as a fashion reference?"
On redefining the word gay: "Take the word gay - like, in hip-hop, that's a negative thing, right? But in the past two, three years, all the gay people I've encountered have been, like, really, really, extremely dope. Y'know, I haven't, like, gone to a gay bar, nor do I ever plan to. But where I would talk to a gay person - the conversation would be mostly around, like, art or design - it'd be really dope. From a design standpoint, kids'll say, 'Dude, those pants are gay.' But if it's, like, good, good, good fashion-level, design-level stuff, where it's on a higher level than the average commercial design stuff, it's, like, gay people that do that. I think that should be said as a compliment. Like, 'Dude, that's so good it's almost. . . gay.'"

On where he gets his drive: "People ask me a lot about my drive. I think it comes from, like, having a sexual addiction at a really young age. Look at the drive that people have to get sex - to dress like this and get a haircut and be in the club in the freezing cold at 3 a.m., the places they go to pick up a girl. If you can focus the energy into something valuable, put that into work ethic . . . "
On what he looks for in a lady: "What I feel like - 'cause I wanna be married, of course - I feel like the type of girl I would be with is a fellow superhero. So we get that 'already flying and now we're just flying together' thing."
On his status in music: "Put this in the magazine: There's nothing more to be said about music. I'm the fucking end-all, be-all of music. I know what I'm doing. I did 808s in three weeks. I got it. It's on cruise control. . . Man, we talked about music for God knows how long! Now let's talk about how my f*cking sweater didn't come back right from Korea. That's what's interesting me."

Pretty standard stuff from Kanye at this point, but the rapper-turned-designer never fails to entertain.

Tom Cruise's Power Is All in the Details

Tom Cruise looks like his Color of Money character with his powerful stare on the cover of Details magazine. John Mayer, Robert Downey Jr., and Nick Jonas all made this year's "Power List" with Tom at No. 7 spot as Leading Man. Tom talks about controversial Valkyrie and what he has in common with his character. Here's more:

On why he chose the film: "When you make people reconsider something that they're so certain of . . . I found it very compelling. It's the reason I'm doing it. When I was a kid, we'd play war, you know, and it was always 'Kill the Nazis.' I wanted to kill Hitler. [. . .] It's about doing the right thing, but also about finding out what the right thing is. You know what I mean? I do feel that this movie was the right thing to do . . . I love movies. Yeah, man, I love movies!"
On people criticizing the movie: "There's always someone telling you not to make a movie. When I did Born on the Fourth of July, they said, 'This is going to ruin your career. What are you doing?' Suicide? I've committed it. There were people who didn't want me to make Top Gun."
On whether he relates to his character: "Certain decisions at points in my life . . . I absolutely related. Stauffenberg went from saying, 'Someone should shoot that bastard' to realizing, I'm the only one who can do it. You can't really know until you're under that kind of pressure. I'm not saying this in some chest-pounding way, but I do feel I'd have that kind of courage."

Tom Cruise sounds passionate about his new movie, which opens up Dec. 26. It may not seem like cheery holiday fare, but it will be a typically action packed Tom Cruise film.

We're used to seeing this trio all decked out as their fancy Upper East Side on-screen characters, with their chic gadgets and enviable wardrobes, but this wet and broody look is something new. Shia Talks About Not Knowing "How to Have One Drink"

This weekend, Shia LaBeouf disappointed us with his idiotic and scary car accident and arrest on suspicion of DUI. Most of you don't think he'll learn his lesson, but at least one witness account says that after being told to flee the scene, Shia knew he needed to stick around and deal with the consequences. In a oddly well-timed newly released interview with Details, Shia reveals how using drinking to bond with his father had already taught him about his own substance control issues. He said:

"We would drink together and smoke together . . . and it's just a bad deal. It's not something that is conducive to being a role model-no iconic actors that I know of have problems like that. And I don't know how to do it like a gentleman. I don't know how to have one drink."

Shia's unconventional upbringing always seems to have left him with some complexes - hence his ability to get arrested for just about anything - and, underneath his cute exterior, a little troubled.

Thankfully, Shia is currently recovering from surgery, and neither his passenger, Transformers 2 costar Isabel Lucas, nor the driver of the other car were badly injured. I sincerely hope that Shia does learn from his big mistake and somehow manages to deal with his own possible demons in the process.

Ashton Isn't Too Tied Up For Details Magazine

Actor/producer/husband/step-dad Ashton Kutcher is a busy man, but he cleared a little time in his schedule for May's Details. After his rather interesting and possibly controversial photoshoot, the star of What Happens in Vegas sat down with the magazine to let it all out. Here's more:

On Demi: “She was the first person who would call me on my shit. She didn’t need me. She straight up didn’t need me. She wanted me, but she didn’t need me, so she could put it on the line . . . I’ve literally just been voted the world’s most eligible bachelor and I’m like, 'I’m going off the market. I’ve found the one.' If I had thought about it I would have been like, 'Nah, nah.' But what can you do? When you’re in that deep, you can’t think.”
On his relationship with Demi's daughters: “I’m able to give them things their parents can’t give them, because it’s a different relationship. I don’t have all the past.”
On getting over his jealousies: “You walk into a relationship and there’s always jealousies, like, 'Oh, the other guy' - and in this case the other guy is Bruce Willis! But my wife’s a smart individual, one of the smartest people I know. If she likes and respects this person, then I think I can get over my jealousy.”
On hard work: “It wasn’t until I was 25 that I plugged into the idea that we all come here to earn it. Because if we don’t earn it, we don’t appreciate any of it. You know what I mean? Gravity is pushing us down. We wake up every f---ing morning and gravity is pushing us down. When a kid stands up for the first time we all f---ing cheer, and the kid feels good about standing, and for the rest of his life he is going to be standing up. The reason he feels good about it is because he fought against gravity and he stood up.”

Ashton has his hands full with his many projects, but it's always a treat to hear him gush about the special ladies in his life ... even if he sometimes sounds just a touch crazytown. Ha. He didn't make the cut last year, but maybe 2008 will be Ashton's time for ranking at the top of our list of the hardest working stars.
