Dev Patel and Freida Pinto Are Going Strong at Dinner in LA

Hot couple Dev Patel and Freida Pinto were together for dinner at LA's Pica restaurant last night. The duo are still going strong after getting together while promoting their 2008 movie Slumdog Millionaire. They're side by side in LA after a stint in Europe for Freida. She spent early December in London and Paris, where she checked out a Chanel show.

Both Dev and Freida have moved on to other exciting big-screen projects. Freida had a huge hit this year with her Rise of the Planet of the Apes, in which she starred opposite James Franco. Dev had a chance to share the screen with James as well on their forthcoming Cherry. Dev's also gearing up for the May release of The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and is among the many stars of Aaron Sorkin's HBO film The Newsroom.

Today's amfAR Cinema Against AIDS Gala in Antibes drew a glamorous crowd of stars. The event, held during the nearby Cannes Film Festival, was attended by judging panel members Jude Law and Uma Thurman, as well as celebrities from the worlds of music and fashion. Kanye West, Gwen Stefani, Gavin Rossdale, and Janet Jackson were some of the recording artists who made their way down the white carpet. Supermodels Doutzen Kroes, Bar Refaeli, and Naomi Campbell joined designers like Karl Lagerfeld and amfAR chair Kenneth Cole at the fundraiser. This evening's swanky fête was one of several that have taken place during the annual cinema celebration. Earlier this week, a Chopard soirée drew many of the same famous faces, including Bar and Jude. Since the festival first kicked off on May 11, the stars have been keeping busy on the gala circuit, relaxing on the water on board mega yachts owned by the likes of Steven Spielberg and Microsoft's Paul Allen, and walking the red carpets at movie premieres like Brad Pitt's The Tree of Life, which debuted on Monday.

James Franco Lawyers Up For Cherry

One of my favorite actors is turning to porn: James Franco is in talks to star in Cherry, an indie drama about the adult film industry. The movie follows a young girl (who hasn't been cast yet) who moves to San Francisco and gets pulled into the world of porn, and Franco will play a lawyer with a cocaine addiction with whom she becomes involved. Lili Taylor will play her alcoholic mother, Dev Patel will be the best friend who is in love with her, and Heather Graham's part hearkens back to her Boogie Nights role; she's a former porn star turned director.

Cherry is the directorial debut by author Stephen Elliott, who already has a Franco connection: the actor will star in and direct the film adaptation of Elliott's book The Adderall Diaries.

Dev Patel Stars in Short Film Shot on a Nokia N8

Shooting video on a camera phone is nothing new - you and I probably do it all the time. But how many of you have shot an eight-minute short film on yours, raise your hand. Not many, I assume.

This short film in particular, about a guy who heads out to his first day at work to find himself in the middle of an action-film-like cat and mouse chase, was shot on a Nokia N8 - the smartphone with HD video recording and amazing 12MP camera. Toss in a few Hollywood stars like Dev Patel, Ed Westwick, and Pam Anderson, and you have yourself an instant overnight Internet success. Seriously, you'll never be able to tell that it was shot on a cameraphone.

Pretty Ladies Like Natalie, Freida, and Nicole Take the Spotlight in Toronto

The Toronto Film Festival rolled on yesterday, with Freida Pinto turning out for the premiere of Miral with director Julian Schnabel. It was her second screening of the week following an event for You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger, and once again she brought her boyfriend and Slumdog Millionaire costar, Dev Patel. Nicole Kidman, meanwhile, brought her own man, Keith Urban, along for the debut of her movie Rabbit Hole with Aaron Eckhart. Natalie Portman is used to posing and promoting after a recent trip to Venice, and she joined her fellow Black Swan actors Vincent Cassel and Winona Ryder, as well as director Darren Aronofsky, for their showing last night. Her boyfriend, Benjamin Millepied, wasn't able to attend, but he's front and center in a new ad campaign for Club Monaco.

Matt, Josh, and Ryan Bring Their Good Looks North of the Border For the Toronto Film Festival

It was a good weekend of manjoyment in Canada, with a handful of Hollywood's hottest touching down to promote movie projects at the Toronto Film Festival. Josh Hartnett had a busy Saturday at the premiere of his Bunraku before moving on with his cast to the afterparty. Scott Speedman looked good in his denim shirt with his costars like Minnie Driver at a press conference for Barney's Version. Matt Damon, meanwhile, kept the good times going at a screening of Hereafter with Bryce Dallas Howard and their director, Clint Eastwood. Freida Pinto and Dev Patel upped the festival's cute factor by making an adorable and PDA-filled cameo supporting her new Woody Allen project, You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger.

Hayden Christensen and Thandie Newton stuck together for their red carpet debut of Vanishing on 7th Street. Ryan Reynolds arrived late in the afternoon to prep for his upcoming press duties on behalf of Buried. The cinema event is in full swing following a star-studded few days, in which the highlight was Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner's appearance to show off his The Town - stay tuned for lots more news and photos as TIFF continues!

Dev Has Freida's Support Battling Hollywood Stereotypes

Freida Pinto and Dev Patel were arm in arm yesterday afternoon for a walk in London. She's in Dev's home country of England after a stint in Canada, where she worked on Rise of the Apes with her Esquire cover guy costar James Franco. She's gearing up for a busy Fall with the release of You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger and Miral, but things for Dev are a little quieter professionally. He's spoken out about the tough time he's having landing roles in Hollywood, saying that producers only offer male actors of Asian descent jobs playing "terrorist, cab driver and smart geek."

Dev Hits the Airbender Red Carpet With His Best Accessory, Freida

Dev Patel had his Oscar de la Renta-clad girlfriend, Freida Pinto, on his arm for last night's NYC premiere of The Last Airbender. The couple spends a great deal of time together as they jet between jobs, but Dev recently put engagement rumors to rest. Joining Dev was his costar Jackson Rathbone, who's been on double promotional duty with Eclipse. Jackson's third Twilight movie has broken box office records, but his project with Dev might not be so lucky - reviews so far haven't been kind, and Buzz wasn't really a fan either.

The Last Airbender: Missing Some Key Elements

The Last Airbender may sadly be remembered as the Summer blockbuster that could have been. On paper, it has all the makings of a perfect popcorn movie: an experienced director in M. Night Shyamalan, a fan base thanks to the cartoon series on which the film is based, and a story that appears to be both intricate and action-packed. Things went awry somewhere along the way, and writer/director/producer Shyamalan is the only one to blame.

It's hard to believe the man behind The Sixth Sense is also guilty of the painful dialogue and lackluster script we're given in Airbender. While the gorgeous scenery and dizzying special effects keep the film from falling apart entirely, it's not a promising start for a franchise. To see what i mean, just

read more. The film takes us to a fantasy world divided into four nations based on the elements of earth, wind, air, and fire. Amongst the "Nomads" are "Benders," a select few who can control their element (though it's unclear why this talent would be useful for anything other than battles). Keeping the peace amongst the four nations is the Avatar, the only person who can bend all four elements and communicate with the spirit world. The Avatar has been missing for 100 years, though, and the Fire Nation has emerged as the dominant power, taking control of the other nations and wiping out the Air nomads entirely. Still with me? The film opens with Sokka (Jackson Rathbone) and Katara (Nicola Peltz), a brother and sister duo who are just trying to survive in the Water nation under the oppressive rule of the Fire nation. They stumble upon Aang (Noah Miller), a child who looks like a monk and is sporting some serious tattoos. It's not long before they realize he's the last known airbender and the Avatar - but he was trapped for a century before he was able to fully develop his power. There are characters and plot lines aplenty in the film, but Shyamalan fails to amalgamate the components into an exciting tale. The movie rushes through its story line, seemingly eager to get us to the film's climax. But without building the right momentum, the crux of the film doesn't pack nearly enough excitement or suspense. The same can be said for the characters: clearly each person has a history, but there's not nearly enough time spent exploring what makes them tick, and the emotional disconnect makes the story even more flimsy. Shyamalan does excel in one area, and that's in the visual effects. The 3D aspect doesn't bring a ton to the table, but the stunning backdrop (most of it is shot in Greenland) and well-choreographed fight scenes kept me entertained in the midst of some seriously wooden performances. The special effects are exactly on point (particularly when the benders are working their magic), keeping the action sequences engrossing and often mesmerizing. The Last Airbender is a very, very good-looking film, but no amount of special effects can mask the gaping hole where a great story should be. Airbender is meant to be the first of three chapters, and though it ends with a semi-interesting cliffhanger, it's not enough to corral audiences in for more.

Freida and Dev Keep Going Strong With Couples' Workouts

Freida Pinto gave her boyfriend Dev Patel a loving look after they exercised together in Montreal yesterday. She's in Canada to work on Immortals with a hot loincloth-wearing Kellan Lutz, and Dev is keeping her company before he has to head off to promote M. Night Shyamalan's The Last Airbender. Dev's movie arrives in theaters on July 1, and Freida will be right behind him on the press trail with You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger coming out in late September. Dev's Summer blockbuster sees him joining forces with Eclipse's Jackson Rathbone, and many of you are excited to see their finished product.
