Beyonce, Morgan and Barbra Join Bushes at the White House

George and Laura Bush were gracious hosts one more time in their home stretch at the White House last night for the annual Kennedy Center Honors gala. Barbra Streisand, who played nice and even hugged G. W. Bush at the event despite her personal feelings towards the outbound president, Morgan Freeman and Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey of The Who were among the honorees. They were joined by political heavyweights Condoleezza Rice, Dick Cheney, the Bush family and more. Beyonce lit up the red carpet in her gown before taking the stage to sing "The Way We Were" while Jack Black managed to make the formal red carpet a little more fun. Congrats to all the honorees - the event airs on CBS December 30.

The Oscar Luncheon

Oscar nominees gathered for the 25th Annual Oscar Nominees Luncheon in LA. The ladies all looked lovely.

As usual, Mr Clooney was a jokester making fun of our VPs recent shooting accident which has become a major Hollywood punchline. Here's more:

Known as one of Hollywood's most stalwart liberals, Clooney drew a laugh at a pre-lunch press conference when he said, "I am bringing Dick Cheney as my date. He was so nice. He called me and invited me to go hunting."

The hunting reference was to Cheney's accidental shooting of a companion during a quail-hunting party over the weekend.

On a serious note, Clooney added, "I don't really feel like I am going to win. I just like the idea of showing up."

They feasted on "surf and turf," sea bass and fillet, traded gossip and posed for a group photograph in which Joaquin Phoenix, nominated for best actor playing singer Johnny Cash in "Walk The Line," almost stumbled into a giant Oscar statue when it came his turn to accept a nomination certificate and Oscar shirt.

Really? WOW. US Weekly has this photoshoot of Kevin cleaning up his act. He actually took off his wife beater and washed his hair. Now maybe if he could help his wife take care of their kids he could be a more normal man.

To promote his record release this August, rapper Kevin Federline, 28, submitted to a haircut, a shave and a wardrobe overhaul at a May photo shoot for Item magazine (out on June 5). After the makeover, he shared his philosophy on fatherhood, fame and fastfood.

On the public: "I should just put a bulls-eye on my back. If I stay home and take care of my wife and my kids, then I'm a loafer, not a good father. If I try to have a career, nobody thinks I am caring for my family. I can't win."

On rumors: "You'll never see that guy they say cheats or goes partying all the time. If I'm there and I'm out at a club, I am there for a reason. I am not there to mingle with women. All that shit is done to me. I did that when I was 21."

On his kids: "It's completely unfair when a child is brought into this world an now he's already looked at like a prince. My kids are going to have to learn what a real job is, what life is. You don't have it easy with me. Period....My kids are going to work at Taco Bell, dammit."

On his image: "I wish people would ask me about my career. Usually it's, 'How's the wife and kids?' Not that I mind; that's my pride and joy. But it would be nice for people to look at me like an artist. The day they judge me as an artist, a CEO, as somebody, not Britney Spears' husband, that's the day I am looking forward to."

On his media conspiracy theory: "The same day Dick Cheney shoots someone, they've got me on the cover of MSN [Web site]. It's life they're diverting attention from what's really going on."

Kudos to Jon Stewart for a job well done even though he is already getting criticized as a host. They say the big stars just don't get him. Critics can be so harsh.

I loved some of his clever jokes like the Dick Cheney shot Bjork, the Walk the Line was Ray for white people and then the recruiting for Scientology - very funny Jon Stewart style. He was quick and smart and should be happy with his performance. Hopefully it will reflect in the ratings which we will know more about in the morning. Here were some of the evenings highlights and fun times:

Poor Jennifer Garner almost spills on the stage twice but laughs it off by letting us know she does her own stunts.

Philip looks very ready to accept his award from Hilary Swank. He then gave one of the most touching speeches about his Mom. What a nice guy.

Jack Nicholson gives the upset of the evening as Crash won Best Picture. Congrats to Crash.
