The Truth Behind Hilary's Lyrics

Hilary showed some serious stems in short shorts while signing autographs for fans at a Dignity release event in Hollywood yesterday. The album has only been out for a day, but some of the tracks already have people talking. There's been speculation that two of the songs, Gypsy Woman and Stranger, attack her ex, Joel and his new girlfriend Nicole. In fact, Hilary says the songs in question are about her parents difficult split last year. Here's more:

This is so hard to talk about," Duff says....She's referring to the separation last year of her parents, Bob and Susan Duff, which the family managed to keep more private than the Duff/Madden breakup. "For some reason, I was embarrassed that my family wasn't perfect and that some woman had broken it up."

That other woman, she says, is the subject of Gypsy, which the singer co-wrote with her elder sister and frequent collaborator, Haylie. "And Stranger is a song I wrote about how my mom must feel around my dad. I made it seem like it was about a relationship I was in, because I didn't want people to know about my parents. But I've realized that so many people can relate to what I've gone through."

They say songwriting is a form of therapy so maybe this is how Hilary got herself through her parents split however; we think these songs could conveniently have a double meaning.

Hilary Promotes her Dignity

H-Duff is gearing up for the release of her album, Dignity, and in the meantime is looking pretty cute promoting it around England. Sure, her long term boyfriend may have jumped head first into a very very public relationship with her all-but-doppelganger (in the starlet scene at least) Nicole Richie, but she doesn't seem to be letting it bother her too much. Hey, she's young, hot, has the hip kids on her side and is about to release her Dignity upon the masses -- nothing to complain about there.

Hilary Debuts Her New Video We've Already Seen

Hilary went on TRL yesterday to premiere her "new" video for the single With Love. You might remember we posted her perfume ad in November and the new video is basically a longer version of that with the same name as well. Did she love the perfume ad so much that she extended the song to be her first single? Is it shameless self-promotion or a genius marketing campaign? Either way, she looks pretty fabulous in the video as well as on TRL.

Hilary's Dignity, Coming Soon

Hilary Duff (you know, the sweet starlet) recently celebrated her newly-singleness and newly-released single by hitting the town and speaking loudly about female anatomy (while thankfully not flashing hers, she has standards, people). Ironically, the same week that Duff showed the slightest bit of undignified behavior, she's out promoting her upcoming album titled, wait for it, Dignity. Here's more:

Duff was on the KIIS-FM program to debut the song "With Love" from her upcoming record, Dignity. She said the title for the record came from her experience living the showbiz life.

"I feel like dignity is something that you can't just have, you know, you have to work on having," she said. "And I feel like I have it a little. ... The album is so personal and talks about so many experiences I've had – good ones and bad ones – and (dignity) is something I always hope to have and strive to have."

Lindsay & Hilary Bury the Hatchet to Celebrate Dignity

While the origins of Lindsay and Hilary's petty feud are all but forgotten (even to the girls themselves), it wasn't until Hilary's CD release party last night that the girls were actually hanging out together again. LL showed up at The Abbey in LA to help Hilary celebrate the release of Dignity. Perhaps they finally realized that Aaron Carter isn't really worth fighting over? That, or Linds just can't say no to a party. I kid the Lohan. It's cute that the girls were able to hug and make-up. Who knows, do we have a new dynamic duo in town?

Hilary Hits the Club, Maintains Dignity

Hilary Duff hit up Club Element in LA this week. It's not often that Hil lets down her veneer(s) -- I kid, I kid, her teeth look great -- and hits the town with her 19-year-old peers (don't ask about the drinking age in LA, it's fluid), but it's certainly good that she lets herself relax a little. With her big, more adult album, Dignity, coming out in a couple weeks, gotta believe girlfriend needs some down time. Or club time, either way. Despite all the craziness around her, somehow Hilary seems to have kept her head on her shoulders, I just hope it stays that way.

Jennifer Aniston on Marley and Owen

Jennifer Aniston was seen ducking out of the Casa Del Mar Hotel in Santa Monica this weekend and she also spent time participating in a press event for Marley & Me. This film is the first one Owen has promoted since being hospitalized last year. The actors spoke about their chemistry, their own dogs and the many Marleys that made this film so much fun and so challenging. Here are highlights from USA Today:

On their chemistry:
Aniston: It was an instant ease when we met and started rehearsing, and I think it's rare. Sometimes you actually really like the person you are having good chemistry with. We lucked out. It was fun to be at work and play these people.
Wilson: I felt extra pressure that we got along, because I had so many friends that had worked with Jen, and everybody has said the same thing, how much they loved working with her. I didn't want to be the one guy she hates!
On what kind of dog they would be if they could choose any breed and why:
Aniston: A Labradoodle! Because it's payback time, baby! I wouldn't be Norman. I'd like to have more fun than Norman. Norman just likes to sit and hang. But I saw a Labradoodle a couple of months ago in New York; it was like a human in a dog suit. They're big, but they have curly hair. They're adorable.
Wilson: I don't have enough energy to be Garcia. I should be Norman.
On becoming attached to any of the Marleys:
Wilson: Clyde was like the main hero. Tank, one of the puppies, stands out. Old Man Marley, played by Copper, he really had this sort of dignity. It's like in a war movie, you didn't want to bond too much. If you invested too much, that dog wasn't going to be there.
Aniston: The first time you see Clearance Puppy - he's the puppy that's in the poster - that dog's name was Marlon. I almost took that one home.

The book made us laugh and cry so we can't wait to see these two make the pages come alive on the big screen.

Angelina Jolie Returns From Her Trip to Afghanistan

Angelina Jolie's Changeling hits theaters today - read Buzz's review here - but she missed last night's LA premiere. Instead, she was on her way home from her first-ever trip to Afghanistan as part of her work with UN Human Rights Campaign. Upon her return, Angelina spoke about the area's needs, triumphs, and difficulties, but mostly about the people. Watch a video of Angelina's visit to Afghanistan below. She said:

"The courage, resilience and quiet dignity of returnee families rebuilding their lives against the kind of adversity few of us can imagine shows the human spirit at its best."

Angelina sounds compassionate and well-spoken as always when it comes talking about her work with the UN. While her personal life still causes controversy, her philanthropy and human rights work is so admirable.

Reese Witherspoon Poses in Paris With Vogue

Reese Witherspoon's beautiful blue eyes pop on the November cover of Vogue, and inside she looks stunning pictured around Paris. We saw Reese posing for this shoot back in July and now we get to see the finished product. In the article, Reese tells the story of finding her Oscar gown, becoming the quintessential Nina Ricci woman, and even a little bit about her family and Jake. Here are highlights:

On Jake: "He's very supportive. Suffice it to say, I'm very happy in life, and I'm very lucky to have a lot of really supportive people around me who care very much for me, and, you know, that's all you can hope for in life. I am very blessed in that way."
On traveling with her children: "I'm very lucky I get to bring my children to great places and they get to see the world with me, and we get to grow and learn and experience things together."
On life: "Every once in a while you're hit with moments when you think, really? This is my life. How lucky am I?"

On making Four Christmases: "There are so many dynamics that people deal with all the time, and you don't really see it in movies very much. You don't see the blended-family Christmas very much. I mean, my parents are still married, and my grandparents stayed married, but it's a situation my own children will have to deal with, so it was of interest to me."
On playing a superhero in Monsters vs. Aliens: "I have a history, a long history of being stereotyped as a five-foot-two woman, which is very limiting. I've worked so hard to create characters that have dignity, and I think everybody knows that I have a very pro-woman message in my work - and in my life."

Hilary's Growing Up, Growing Wiser

Hilary hit up Glendale for a little shopping expedition the other day. While having a bank account like Hilary's would certainly be nice, there are other aspects of fame that are far less appealing. On the eve of her new album, Dignity's release, Hilary talked to Britain's Mail on Sunday about the ups and downs of become a woman while the whole world watches on. Here are highlights:

On Growing Up: 'As I become more mature, my tastes and interests change. Like, so many people have watched me grow up, and I find it really weird when they say to me 'tell us about your new look.' I'm, like, what new look? It's just me growing and getting more confident about my style.''
On Shopping: "I can't go more than about 72 hours without shopping, but I don't think I'm excessive."
On The Britney/Christina Shock Appeal: 'Know what? That's not really my style,' she says forcefully. 'I'm going to work really hard to stay successful and appeal to as many different people as I can, but I know there's always going to be someone younger and cooler coming after me, just like I took over from the one before me. And if it doesn't work,' she shrugs, 'I guess I'm going to have to think harder and maybe try something else.'
On Her Weight Loss: 'I did get skinny,' she concedes. 'I've felt that pressure like everyone else in my position has. When a paper comes out that says 'Duff Puff - she must have gained 15 pounds,' or something like that, how would any normal person react? It's so mean, but everyone keeps buying that stuff and talking about it, so it's not going to go away.'

While we worry about the pressures put on all of our favorite starlets, Hilary seems to have emerged with a level head on her tiny shoulders. Seems like someone still has her dignity all right.
