NPH Entertains an Exuberant Crowd at the Tonys

Neil Patrick Harris donned a shiny tux and a big smile, hosting the Tony Awards last night at Radio City Music Hall in NYC. Broadway veteran John Stamos and newcomer Anne Hathaway were among the stars who stepped out to present awards. Dolly Parton, Stockard Channing and Elton John took the stage, as well as Bret Michaels who injured himself during the big opening number. Liza Minnelli beat out Will Ferrell's George Bush impersonation for Best Special Theatrical Event - see all the winners here - but Will didn't seem to mind as he and the rest of the audience enjoyed a night filled with music and laughter.

Sugar Bits - Fergie's Not Pregnant

Jessica Drops Out of Dolly Tribute

Jessica was in tears after she messed up the words to 9-5 during a tribute to Dolly Parton at the Kennedy Center Honors earlier this month. Before running off the stage Jessica said, "Dolly you make me so nervous. I can't even sing the words right." Jess has now decided she doesn't want to be included in the broadcast of the show airing December 26th. Here's more:

Simpson botched the lyrics when she originally performed the song live, then recorded it again for the broadcast show. However, ultimately Simpson's spokesperson, Cindi Berger, told the Associated Press after Simpson had viewed the tape, "She really wasn't happy with her performance, and she did want it to be perfect for Dolly, who she idolizes."

George Stevens Jr., the show's producer, said, "We appreciate the time and energy Ms. Simpson put into this event and respect the high standards she has for herself and that of the Kennedy Center Honors."

We're really bummed that we won't be able to see Jessica in the tribute. Sounds like she's just still embarrassed and wants to forget about the whole thing.

Jessica Keeps Messing Up Her Lines

Just about a week ago Jessica screwed up her tribute to Dolly Parton at the Kennedy Center. Apparently she can't get her lines right on the set of Blonde Ambition either. Poor Jess, but at least Luke is being supportive. Here's more:

A source on the Shreveport, Louisiana set of “Blonde Ambition” tells Star that Simpson is having trouble with her script lines. “After the seventh take on one shot, the director hid a microphone in her ear so a crew member could feed her lines,” a source told the tab. “Everyone was embarrassed for her, but she laughed it off, saying ‘I’m sorry, everyone. I’m sorry.” Co-star Luke Wilson was sympathetic, reports the source, and “patted [Simpson] on the back and told her it would be okay.”

Jessica in Tears at Kennedy Center Tribute

A mingling of Hollywood's youngest and most experienced came together over the weekend to celebrate some of the most respected members in showbiz at the Kennedy Center in DC. Five greats were honored: Dolly Parton, Steven Spielberg, Smokey Robinson, Andrew Lloyd Webber and conductor Zubin Mehta for their contributions to American culture and the arts. Reese and Jessica were both on hand to sing 9 to 5 in a tribute to Dolly Parton, a performance that should have been a happy one. But Jess evidently messed up the song and left the stage in tears. Here's more:

Simpson was on stage to sing Nine to Five as part of the tribute to Dolly Parton, one of the evening's five honorees. Simpson ended her performance abrupty with the words "so nervous" and quickly exited the stage. The stunned audience remained silent, giving her no applause.

Simpson appeared to be crying when she and other singers in the tribute returned to the stage.

How embarrassing! Poor Jess. She's a big fan of Dolly's and was even planning on going to Dollywood to perform with her friend. Hopefully this flub doesn't change her plans. Still, it looks like the show went on without her. It airs Dec. 26th at 9 pm on CBS. Jess is Headed to Dollywood

Dolly Parton seems to think that she has a lot in common with another blonde from the south. Turns out she's a huge fan of Jessica's, and sees a lot of herself in Jess. And she's thrilled that Jess is planning to perform with her at Dollywood. Here's more:

"Jessica is going to come up to Dollywood, and we're going to do something real soon." Parton insists that too many people overlook her young pal's talent - just like they did her's when she was starting out. She adds, "All they see is this great-looking blonde girl, but she's got a great voice - and the heartache and pain to throw into songs."
