He's thrown for a loop when he falls for his next-door neighbor (Carey Mulligan), and agrees to help her husband with a robbery that goes horribly awry. The film is engaging, impossibly stylish, and boasts a killer soundtrack, as well as top-notch performances from Gosling and Albert Brooks. DVD extras include featurettes.

This futuristic flick takes us to a world where time is currency, and once you hit 25, you need your minutes to stay alive. Unfortunately, the rich keep getting richer and the poor, like Will Salas (Justin Timberlake), are fighting for survival. Will becomes a target when he's gifted an eyebrow-raising number of minutes, and sets out on a moral crusade against the elite to help himself and others who are in his situation. Though the idea of the film is promising, the dialogue and convoluted plot don't live up to expectations. DVD extras include deleted scenes and extended scenes.

Drive Director Nicolas Winding Refn Says Ryan Gosling "Is the Only Guy Who Can Wear a Satin Jacket"

Nicolas Winding Refn directed this Fall's critical hit Drive, starring Ryan Gosling as a stunt driver who gets involved in a messy situation trying to protect his neighbor and crush, played by Carey Mulligan. The film has had audiences buzzing over Gosling's performance, the movie's soundtrack, and the brutal but creative violence. I had a chance to talk to Refn this week about the film, and the director talked up his "hero" Gosling and their fruitful creative relationship (Refn and Gosling have two other films in development: Only God Forgives, currently in production, and the remake of Logan's Run). Check out the interview for Refn's thoughts about Gosling, and other elements of Drive, like the music, the casting of Mulligan, and the driver's unique wardrobe.

BuzzSugar: How did you feel about Ryan's performance in Drive?
Nicolas Winding Refn: I think that he's one of those rare actors that has this gift that very few movie stars have ever had, which is that he can say a thousand words without saying a line. He has this talent that's so unique that only maybe Alain Delon and James Stewart had. You can shoot him from all angles; you can almost place him behind a door and you still sense his presence, and his vulnerability and his strength, and so forth. He's the kind of guy who makes acting look really easy.

Buzz: How did you choose the distinctive jacket for Driver to wear?
NWR: I always wanted him to wear a satin jacket, that would illuminate him at night like a knight. It would illuminate his aura. And Ryan Gosling is the only guy who can wear a satin jacket. And then we came up with this scorpion on his back, because it would give him a symbol.

Box Office: The Lion King Re-Release Reigns

Three new releases hit the box office this weekend, but it was Disney's re-release of its 1994 animated film The Lion King that took the number one spot. The 3D version of the movie earned $29.3 million, making it the first re-release since Return of the Jedi to win the box office. Contagion dropped to the number two spot, bringing in $14.5 million, while newcomer Drive pulled in at number three with $11 million. The Help maintained its number four spot for the second week in a row with $6.4 million, followed by Straw Dogs, which earned $5 million in its debut weekend, and beat out other newcomer I Don't Know How She Does It, which came in sixth with $4.5 million.

Drive: A White Knuckle Thrill Ride

In Drive, Ryan Gosling plays a man whose exceptional skill at driving makes him the perfect stunt man, and, more lucratively, an ideal chauffeur for crime scene getaways. He doesn't commit them, he just gets other perps away from them - no more, no less. That desire to keep things simple quickly dissolves after he participates in a heist that goes wrong, and thus begins an intense race for his life that makes your stomach twist and your heart pound.

The driver (as Gosling's nameless character is known) develops feelings for the literal girl next door, Irene (Carey Mulligan), a young mother and wife who is waiting for her husband to finish his prison sentence. The driver's attachment to her is what gets him involved in the situation that puts him in danger, and it provides a surprisingly emotional angle to a movie that could have otherwise been a simple bloodbath with an emphasis on fast cars. Ryan Gosling Doubles Up His Toronto Premieres With Drive

A Burberry-clad Ryan Gosling reunited with his friend and Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn last night at the film's Toronto International Film Festival debut. The collaborators weren't joined by leading ladies Carey Mulligan and Christina Hendricks for the evening, but Drive's supporting stars Albert Brooks and Bryan Cranston both turned up for the event. As usual, the camaraderie between Ryan and Nicolas was evident on the press line and as they introduced the movie. It's been a busy weekend in Canada for Ryan. On Friday night, he attended The Ides of March premiere with his director and costar George Clooney. George had his new love Stacey Keibler along for the red-carpet affair, while Ryan brought his mother as his date. Ryan has spent recent weeks shooting The Place Beyond the Pines in NY with Eva Mendes and Bradley Cooper, but made a pit stop in LA before heading north for the fest. Ryan and Eva went to Disneyland together on Monday night, where they were spotted cuddling and holding hands.
